It is a beautiful, comfortable, clean house with lots of room. The deck has a fantastic view and there is a great picnic table next to the deck. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the river. The pavilion next to the river is also very nice. Overall, everything was better than we expected. Perfect for larger groups and all of us noncampers!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, Jane! It was great meeting you all and we hope to see you again!

Came to these parts from northern Wisconsin where every winter I would rent out a cabin on a frozen lake and enjoy the cold with a fireplace, some wine and a book. I have lived in MO. for five years and had not found anything to compete with those experiences. Since I was hosting a wine tasting at Peaceful Bend, I thought it a good idea to stay close by. The property was recommended to me by a couple different folks but still my expectations were low. Well, my expectations got a slap up side the head when our small group stepped inside this wonderful retreat. Terrific view, comfy beds, immaculate house keeping, a wonderful wood burning fireplace, and close to a winery. Pretty near perfect. Looking forward to next stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Murphy's Retreat is a awesome place to stay..We (Group of 15) had a beautiful weekend here. Located in midst of Scenic Meramec River bank..The rooms were very neat and clean and tastefully decorated. The scenary from the Patio is absolutely awesome. The pictures don't do any justice it;s true beauty. This place truely reminded me of "Home Stays" in my native place Coorg, India. The host Crystal is very friendly. She goes out of the way to ensure you have a good time. Our group unanimously want to go back there in the future and I would recommend this to everybody who wants a quiet and very relaxing holiday.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

My husband and I have stayed twice at Murphy's Retreat and we recommend it highly to those who want to get away and relax. The cabin has a wonderful view of the Meremac river from it's screened in porch. There is a winery close by where we sat, drank wine and listened to live music. We relaxed at night in the big jaccuzzi tub. The cabin is spacious and clean. We love it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a fantastic time-thanks for sharing your beautiful home and property. The horseback riding was lots of fun-next time we'll get Lauren to to ride. Thanks for being so accommodating with the weather and time. We had a perfect day for floating and so much fun on the river. Gerald - thanks for your suggestion about stopping by the bluff. We had a really nice visit the Peaceful Bend winery - how nice to have that so close! Roasting marshmallows @ the pavilion was great and we had quite the adventure with the cave. :) It was a pleasure to meet your lovely family. Thanks again for everything.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Murphy's Retreat was exactly what the doctor ordered in way of relaxation! The owners provided a well stocked home for our little family to enjoy. The peaceful surroundings and the CLEAN atmosphere of this wonderful place made it easy to kick back and enjoy ourselves. A heartfelt thank you to the Earharts-we will see you again this summer-without the little ones so we can fish! WooHoo! Be blessed!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

Owner info
About the owner: My name is Crystal. I live on a farm with my husband, Gerald and son, Clayton. I am slightly addicted to horses and love working with animals. I have two stock dogs, Ember and Tag, that help me with most everything I do on the farm. We have cattle, goats and a few chickens.
Why the Owner Chose Steelville:
We bought this piece of property with a lovely home on it from the family of a man named Sam Murphy because it joined our farm and we thought it would be a good place to try the vacation rental business. It went so well that we have since built two more cabins on the same property. We love meeting new people and sharing some of the great experiences of country living with others.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Murphy's Retreat was our first vacation rental and the screened in porch overlooking the river is still my favorite spot on the whole Murphy's Place property. I love to sit out there and drink my coffe while listening to the river gurgling along down below.
