Calboccia, our vacation home, is a several hundred year-old renovated farmhouse situated near the top of a 2000 foot high mountain overlooking the Niccone Valley with views of several medieval castles, the mountains on the opposite side of the valley and the 5000 foot high Appenine mountains beyond. The views from Calboccia's terraces are splendid, and its tranquility may bring out the artist in you. At the same time, Calboccia is central to many famous Italian towns, such as Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, Spoleto, Siena, Florence, Orvieto and Cortona. World class wine tasting in the Chianti and Montefalco regions an hour's drive away; and the Venetian-born Gritti family has begun making very fine wines in the Niccone Valley itself -- about a 10 minute drive from the house. Numerous restaurants nearby serve authentic Umbrian and Tuscan cuisine; several are practitioners of the organic and slow food movements.
Casa Calboccia is a two-story farmhoue of about 3000 square feet with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and 2 full kitchens, sleeping up to 9 people. One can rent one or both levels.
Adjacent to the house is a converted barn with 1 bedroom, bath and small kitchen called the Essiccatoio. This cozy space can be rented with the main house or independently.
In all seasons (yes,even winter) Calboccia is the perfect place to relax with your family and friends, to enjoy sightseeing in Umbria's and Tuscany's famous towns and take hikes or bike rides around the valley and the hills. Take advantage of a fantastic array of local art, music, and history in the birthplace of the Slow Food movement!
