San Godenzo house description
Transport yourself to the Italian countryside, at Casa Poggio Al Sere, sipping a glass of Chianti while watching the setting Tuscan sun, slowly seep into the shadow of Mount Falterona at the foot of the Apennines Mountains. This exquisite experience can be yours. Come and stay at our home at Poggio Al Sere. Awaiting you is your own impeccably furnished Tuscan farm house that comfortably sleeps four persons in the Main house and 2 persons in the charming guest cottage attached to the main house. Either choice, you will sleep well, far away from the maddening crowd, as the sounds of nature will lull you to sleep at night and the songs of the birds will awaken you every morning.
The entire villa was completely and lovingly restored by its owners over a period of several years. There are three possibilities for rental. First option, is the Main House which can accommodate up to a family of four. It includes a master bedroom with a queen sized bed, and two smaller bedrooms with single beds. It has a beautiful spacious bathroom with bath tub and shower. We have a laundry room, with an American washer and dryer has another toilet and shower available. The living room is complete with the original fireplace, original hand chiseled stone walls and high beamed ceilings. The large gourmet styled kitchen is completely and well equipped with free standing Italian version Wolf range stove, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. It is furnished with marble granite counter tops and beautiful chestnut cabinetry. The entire main house is furnished with antique furniture and has a grand piano for your playing pleasure.
The second rental option is the charming and cozy cottage with its private entrance situated below the main house, in the garden. This is a perfect choice for a couple or a party of two wishing a smaller space. It has a lovely living room/sleeping area complete with a wood burning stove. The bathroom is large, complete with its own washing machine, shower and bidet. The dining room area has a lovely round oak table that seats 4, and the kitchen is fully equipped and complete with a dishwasher, microwave and gas stove. All the rooms are beautifully furnished with hand crafted furniture and all the airy rooms have chestnut beams, stone walls, and face the garden.
The third rental option is renting the whole property, which can accommodate up to six people. It is perfect for an extended family, needing more space, yet privacy.
Surrounding the guest house is a spacious garden with flowers, fruit and cypress trees, herbs and vegetable garden. A romantic bubbling fountain with lovely areas for sitting, reading, writing or painting is at your doorstep. Spend your days relaxing, leisurely swinging gently in the hammock or lying reading in the garden swing. There is also a swimming pool for your use and pleasure after a long day of sightseeing. We have more pictures of the property if you would like to see them. Just let us know and we will send them along.
A car is a necessity to explore all the surrounding areas.
We are 10 minutes by car from the nearest train station, in Dicomano, where there are daily trains to Florence and other Italian hill towns.
With either choice, the property is perfect for a weeks stay or for a sabbatical, whether one spends their time traveling and sightseeing or painting and writing.
We are located on the top of a mountain that overlooks beautiful scenic valleys and mountains of the Mugello. The area is filled with interesting wildlife and wild flowers, seasonal berries, all for your exploration and enjoyment. There are many country roads for hiking and biking right outside your door. We also have a telescope for nightly star gazing, since we are so lucky to have no light pollution here on the mountain.
Poggio Al Sere, is remarkable for its magic and tranquility. From the first mornings light to the stunning sunsets, it is perfect for a relaxing vacation, whereby one can sit, read, paint or write or just meditate in the stillness of the day. It is a bit of paradise.
Come and visit us !
Poggio Al Sere is located between the towns of Dicomano and San Godenzo off the state highway 67, near the little village of Corella. It is in the territory known as The Mugello, an area in northern Tuscany, 40 kilometers north of Florence. The area of Mugello is a wide, green valley crossed in parts by the Sieve River, one of the major rivers that flow into the Arno River, Tuscany's principal river.
The Mugello is marked off in the north by the Tuscan-Emilia Romagna Apennines, in the south by the Monte Giovi peak and by Monte Senario and Monte Calvano in the west. The Mugello is striking because of its natural beauty and the diversity found in its landscape, which goes from rolling plains, to hills and to mountains. Mugello offers many interesting things to see and do which will please those who love nature and sports as well as those who are interested in the arts and culture of the area.

It is about 30 mins by car from the house • Sport Fishing Lakes - several lakes for fishing are located across the territory, • Medicean Villas and Castles - The area of the Mugello is a very interesting and historical area. It is known as the land of the Medici’s. There are many villas and castles that belonged to the Medici family and to the Renaissance era as the family traced its roots back to the Mugello. For example, there is the Park and Villa Demidoff in Vaglia, the Palazzo dei Vicari (Vicar Palace) in Scarperia, and the Villa di Cafaggiolo in Barberino di Mugello. * Famous Designer Outlet shopping center in Barberino di Mugello...moreless

A Most Memorable Tuscan Experience
A Most Memorable Tuscan Experience
Mary and Fabio were extraordinary hosts. We cannot say enough good things about their enchanting villa which was even more than we could have imagined. The house was spotless, well maintained and equipped with everything thing we could possibly need to have one of our best holidays ever. The real critic in our group is our 8 year old granddaughter who couldn't have been happier with the house, the gardens and the swimming pool. She was ready to go exploring the minute we arrived. She quickly made friends with the cats outside and Mary very kindly let her name the new kittens. Our granddaughter was truly enchanted by the cats, the house and the gardens, but also by Mary and Fabio. From the moment we began commuincating about our week at the house, Mary was most helpful, sending us information on the area and answering any questions we had with a prompt response. As we were driving to the house on the day of our arrival, Mary and Fabio called to see if we needed help getting to the house. They even offered to drive to Dicomano to fetch us, but we assured them that Mary's very detailed directions were quite sufficient to get us to the house. When we arrived they made us feel like "old friends" - that is how friendly, warm and hospitable they are. We made day trips to Pisa, a conservation center, and took our granddaughter to an adventure park which she found exciting and fun (and we did as well). Florence is a short drive away, but we were going to be in Florence at the end of our stay in Italy so we didn't make that one of our day trips. It is also possible to take the train into Rome for the day but since we wanted to focus on Tuscany during this stay we did forgo that day trip. There are vineyards nearby as well as charming villages to explore. The photos don't do justice to the beauty of the house and gardens. The house is charming and the gardens were lovely. Being a "foodie", I thoroughly enjoyed going out and picking fresh herbs to add to my pasta or whatever we were cooking at the time. In the evenings we sat on the terrace, under the twinkling stars and moonlight, and had our antipasti, dinner, gelato and our wine or limoncello. It was more lovely than you can imagine. We not only would recommend the house to our friends and family, but we look forward to our next stay at Poggio al Sere and being with our friends Mary and Fabio once again.

A magical place...
A magical place...
A haven in the Italian countryside... the perfect place for rest and relaxation. The location is perfect for those with a car, looking to venture out to see the sites under the Tuscan sun, but wanting to return to the peace and quiet of this lovely area in the Mugello region of Tuscany. The amenities are wonderful and exceeded our expectations! We particularly enjoyed the interior stone walls, hand-hewn beams, the beautiful new kitchen and bath. Mary and Fabio were wonderful hosts - helpful with so much information and very accessible. We would stay at Poggio al Sere again, and would readily recommend to our friends and family!

About the owner: Italy is a country full of incredible landscapes and The Mugello is one of its best kept secrets, which makes it a memorable vacation in this amazing countryside. I am delighted to be able to offer a comfortable and beautiful guest house to my guests. My husband and I chose to restore this guesthouse, attached our the main house as if we were going to live there ourselves. It is important to us that what we offer to ourselves we would offer to others. Every amenity and comfort is well thought out and we make sure that the guesthouse is clean and in excellent condition at all times. I take pride in meeting the needs of my traveling friends while helping to make their stay in The Mugello a memorable one. As I am a teacher, I enjoy imparting my years of experience through giving suggestions on food, wine and day trips to other Italian cities close by. It is important to me to put the needs and comfort of my guests first and I am honored to say that 'Our house is your house !'
Why the Owner Chose San Godenzo:
It was the light and the energy of this amazing landscape that caught my heart and took my breath away. I knew at that moment I had to live here! When I first stepped onto this property in 1999, I fell in love with the LAND and all of its treasures. Since then, we have lovingly restored every inch of the house and the surrounding areas. On this property is our home and we look forward to sharing our villa with our traveling friends. We hope you will be one of them!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I love the peace and tranquility of The Mugello most of all. I also love the golden light and how is plays upon the trees and the mountains, especially at twilight time. The sunsets we have are glorious. I love how we have no light pollution and how at night we sleep so well with only the crickets and the breeze to lull us to sleep. The animal life is amazing. In one day, you can see deer, wild boar, rabbits, and pheasants, literally all in the meadows at once. Additionally, there are farms nearby with cows in the meadows and lambs in the fields. Giant cypress tress and pines surround the house and in the summer, the warm smell of cypress and pine is unforgettable. Nearby, there is hiking and mountain biking. We have bikes for your use. There is the famous racetrack in Scarperia for racing fanatics. There are water sports at a nearby lake plus great shopping for designer clothes at the famous Barbarino Outlet Shopping center. Historically, there are lots to see and learn about. Visit where Giotto was born and Dante spent his exile. In addition, there are the fabulous castles of the Medici’s that one can visit. Finally, yet importantly, there is the food and wine. This area is famous for its wine and gastronomic specialties. Chianti wine is made in this region and there are wonderful wine tasting experiences awaiting you. Come and join us in this magical bit of paradise.
