-- WELCOME TO HARBOR ISLAND - SMALL AND PRIVATE - SOME SAY THE BEST KEPT SECRET ON THE EAST COAST. WE ARE A PRIVATE GATED COMMUNITY WITH 24 HOUR SECURITY -- A FRIENDLY PLACE WHERE PEOPLE SAY HELLO AND WAIVE AT YOU FROM THEIR CARS -- AND THE BEACH IS NEVER CROWDED, AS IN NEVER-EVER CROWDED.

A 2011 (unsolicited) COMMENTARY FROM A GUEST:

"Location location, location is exactly right. Parking lot at front door and Boardwalk to the Beach just off the back deck. The owner answered any questions we had in a timely manner. The condo was clean and well equipped with everything needed for the week. Pools are at either end of the building or a larger community pool within easy walking distance. We have been coming to Hunting island for over 30 years but this is the first visit to Harbor Island and we will definitely be coming back. The beach was never crowded and everone was friendly and helpful. It was the most relaxing vacation we have had in years."

BREAKING NEWS FOR "BIRDERS": HARBOR ISLAND IS NOW RECOGNIZED BY THE AUDUBON SOCIETY AS AN "IBA" OR "IMPORTANT BIRD AREA," ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER ISLANDS IN OUR IMMEDIATE AREA. BIG BIRDS GALORE (and small plovers too). HARBOR ISLAND IS ALSO NEXT TO HUNTING ISLAND, A SOUTH CAROLINA STATE PARK --- RATED AMONG THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY (small admission fee) AND YES, IT HAS A LIGHTHOUSE.

FIVE ADVANTAGES to renting this Villa:

1)It is Beachfront/Oceanfront (I'll bet that's why you are coming here!)The closest buildings to the Ocean are the "K" and "D buildings." We are K building, condo 101.
2)K Building is adjacent to a private POOL for condominium guests.
3)The villa is an end unit; instead of another condominium, on one side you have instead two picture windows with great views -- only 1 other like it.
4)The Villa is on the ground floor. From the outside deck, do not pass GO; instead PROCEED DIRECTLY to the OCEAN.
5) It is nicely furnished. The kitchen was recently renovated.
Here is what a tenant recently wrote: "Your unit was one of the nicest I have seen on Harbor Island---we loved the beautiful colors and new appliances, and my husband especially loved the chair and ottoman he could sit in and enjoy the view."

We are a private owner. Our Beachfront/Oceanfront 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath Condominium sleeps 2-4 people. Most of the one bedroom condominiums have an identical or similar floor plan. The primary difference is LOCATION. There are only two ocean front buildings and only one other end unit like this one. You will see the Ocean the minute you step in the front door(assuming the curtains are open).

Step out through a sliding glass door onto a private deck. You are there. There is NO BETTER LOCATION, NO BETTER VIEW. You will take two steps down to the Boardwalk and see nothing but the sea oats, the Beach, the Ocean. Over Two miles of beach await. The picture windows of a corner end unit provide additional Ocean views and make the unit brighter. One picture window for the Ocean, One picture window for the pool. Less than 30 SECONDS puts you on the beach.......did I mention that the beach is never crowded? WiFi you ask? With your own computer, it is available at the Beach & Racquet Club and w/o your computer at the Beaufort library.

THE POOLS: We have found that a lot of people who like to come to the beach prefer spending a lot of time at the pool. Not a problem when it's 20 SECONDS from your front door!! . . . yet far enough away that it does not distract. There are two other pools where you can swim and hang out-- a second pool within the condominium complex and a third larger pool(some say Olympic size) at the Beach and Racket Club (BRC) across the street. AMENITY CARDS NOT REQUIRED.

[WARNING: It could take TWO minutes to walk to the Beach Club if you insist on walking.] The Club has a children's pool. While you are there, try the indoor fitness room. Play some volleyball. Watch the kids enjoy the playscape. Or just grab the paper or a favorite book and enjoy a gorgeous marsh view and the surroundings.

Tennis anyone? We have courts at the Beach Club. Golf? There are 11 courses around Beaufort and listed in the Beaufort phone book. The closest are the two courses on Fripp Island, open to anyone: Ocean Point and a Davis Love III signature course - 3 short miles. Fripp Island is gated, so call for reservations. South Carolina National is maybe 25 minutes away, and there are many others.

The condominium was recently re-furnished. Second TV in bedroom! Both digital cable, of course. (High Definition TV is coming, but not yet available on the Island.) The Master Bedroom has a KING SIZE BED and full bath. The full kitchen, a washer and dryer, bar space and dining table provide the amenities you need. Check out our pictures!

And I swear this beach is never crowded. It's fun to walk to the end in either direction and you need to do both because they are different. It's a toss up as to whether the sunsets over the water are better, or the soft glow of the sun as dawn breaks (see picture). . . and when the moon is full over the water . . .well, you'll have your own ideas. At night, you can see the stars without interference from city lights ("Honey, bring the telescope.") You know, you just may need more than one week!

We take checks for the deposit and a credit card after you arrive for the balance. The villa changed owners in 2003. Since then, we have received numerous unsolicited comments from vacationers who have loved our condo and Harbor Island. You could be next. I mean, what's to stop you???

  • ACTIVITIES, Harbor is a great beach for children, Hunting Island State Park (next door - minimal fee to enter) offers great nature trails, a nature center with classes for kids and adults and the only S, C, lighthouse open to the public, Harbor Island has several bird sanctuaries (But hey, please don't feed the alligators), Buy SC yummy shrimp at commercial marina just before Harbor Bridge, or a second store en route- both on Hwy 21, See schools of Dolphins (we have more than our share for some reason) and view shrimp boats in your front yard, Seagulls and Pelicans will entertain you as they dive for fish in the Ocean, Crab from bridges, fish from shore, A bike ride along the ocean not to be missed, Jog on paved roads or on the beach, Beaufort is quaint & tourist-friendly with good shopping and restaurants, Rated as a top place to retire, the low country is serene and beautiful
