Studio on Post Canyon
Year Purchased: 1994
Why the Owner Chose Hood River
Hood River and the Columbia Gorge offer some of the most unique seasonal recreation and activity of anywhere we have been in the US. Within 20 minutes of "The Studio", you can enjoy world class hiking, mountain biking, windsurfing and kiteboarding, kayaking and glider flying. The Hood River valley's unique location sets it close to the city of Portland, Oregon, a major metro area, but also protects it's unique beauty and it's future with geographic location and the National Scenic Act, which limits development. Hood River and the Gorge will have that "small town" feel for a long time to come.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Small town means friendly people, who bend over backwards to offer you help, advice, and encouragement for whatever your travel goals might be. Small town means no traffic jams, lots of bicycle traffic, walking and local fair. Should you take the day off from windsurfing, kiteboarding or any of the numerous recreational offerings, there's always a winery to visit (10 minute walk to one) or local street parties, farmer's markets, craft fairs and plenty of nightly music and restaurants to visit.
A five minute walk from the studio is the Cathedral Ridge Winery. Within 20 minutes are two more wineries, Marchesi Vineyards and the Hood River Winery.
Owner's Map of Hood River
Alison and John Bryan moved to Hood River in 1993 from Berkeley, California with the intent of trying out small town life. The experiment was a complete success. "Small town life suited us well and allowed us to raise two beautiful children and enjoy day upon day of the beautiful Hood River valley. Although we are slowing down, we still enjoy boating (ask us for a boat ride, we love to take newbies), snow skiing, kiteboarding, gardening and walking our dog Sadie around a wonderful dog walk minutes from the studio."

The Studio was large and wonderful! John and Alison really know how to build a wonderful retreat! We loved the very large bedroom and the very large kitchen and great room. There was so much counter and kitchen space that you could not use it all. The island was perfect for eating and seeing Mt. Adams and the Underwood Hills. The decor was perfect and the chairs very comfortable! The bath was good size and the tiled shower perfect! It was nice having a washer and dryer as we were on the road for several months. We enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching the chickens (they were very funny) and Sadie was a joy greeting us each day. Thanks to John for taking Jim golfing and to Alison for showing me her new chicks. The history of the unit makes it even more special (you will just have to book it to find out!). It was very quiet, clean, comfortable and perfect place to stay just a few miles out of town and easy access to Mt. Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, waterfalls, fruit loop, dam, and so much more! Alison even gave us FRESH farm eggs from her chickens! Wish we could have stayed longer but will recommend this to others and will come again!

We had a very nice stay at the studio! It's a great place for a couple or a small family with very young children. Our daughter loved seeing the cows and chickens. All the ammenities are modern and the bed was really comfortable! You get so much more for your money here than you would ever get at a hotel. I also really liked the winery that is 2 doors down the street. I'd love to come back and stay again!
Owner response:Value and comfort are our goals at the Studio on Post Canyon. We succeed if you come back for a second visit.

The unit was so cozy and peaceful, and Alison, John, and Sadie made us feel like family. It felt like more of a country area, with not a lot of city lights. But, because of that you could see millions of stars, it was beautiful. The town is only a short 5-10 minute drive away so you have the best of both worlds. The kitchen and eating area allow you to see Mt Adams while dining, so romantic! There are lots of supplies for the kitchen and laundry. The place is very roomy and clean. Washer and dryer are a definite plus when traveling. Cathedral Ridge Winery is a short walk down the street with some great wines (can be dangerous *wink*). I would definitely recommend this place to friends, and for ourselves, we can't wait to come back! By the way Alison, the eggs were so fresh and yummy!!
Owner response:Great guests. We loved hearing about all your hiking adventures. We hope you'll be regulars. I know our dog, Sadie, really wants you to be regulars. John and Alison

Traveled from Texas and Louisianna. Beautiful view. The shower is wonderful! Loved the place, very open and comfortable. Had a great time exploring the area. Very beautiful. Hate to have to go back to the flatlands. Loved the winery within walking distance. Great stay and can't wait to come back.

Thank you for sharing the studio. We had a much needed weekend of not doing much! We live so close but forgot how beautiful the area is. We will be sure to return in the summer. The studio is very comfortable and we cooked, played cards and watched the Planet Earth until we fell asleep. We really enjoyed our stay!

What a lovely long weekend, the views, studio, and amenities were just what we needed. We were particularly impressed with the studio design, especially the even sub floor electric heat! We will be back. Thanks so much.
