Artists Loft, with its incomparable view of the Harbor, sailboats, lighthouse and Coast Guard Station, is the only private home rental in Downtown Grand Marais on the Harbor. The view is what it is all about!
Artists Loft is right in the heart of downtown Grand Marais on beautiful Harbor Park. It is a great home-base for enjoying the gentle activity of the Village or easily getting away for day trips to the BWCA, many area lakes, streams and deserted beaches. Just ask me where they are.
Artist's Loft has two bedrooms and one bathroom with a claw foot tub and a view of the Harbor. There is also a cool birch- paneled original 1950 Vagabond Travel Trailer for extra guests and overflow or for a economical individual stay. Ask for more info.
Even though Artists Loft is right downtown on the harbor front, it is graced with a gorgeous secluded quiet off street wildflower garden with decks and lounging chairs and tables to relax in the sun or have a intimate outside breakfast lunch or dinner. Cook in with our fully equipped kitchen or get it to go, semi-catered from a choice of several fabulous restaurants.
In the evening, ,step next door to the Gun Flint Tavern and enjoy a microbrew or Mojito in the 'Ravens Nest' lakeview deck and then listen to world class music in the early evening. The music at 'The Tavern', as we call it, ranges from gentle Gypsy Jazz to Folk and Folk Rock for the occasional night of dancing!
Wake with the gulls in the morning sun and enjoy the quiet solitude of downtown as it gently comes to life. Stroll to the Pie Place or Blue Water Cafe for breakfast just half a block away. You have it ALL at Artists Loft!
The thing to remember about Artists Loft is that every day is a beautiful magical day whether it is sunny and warm or stormy and wild; all year round nature's magic unfolds right in front of you over the greatest of lakes, Lake Superior!
A little History about Artists Loft:
It was built in the early 1900s by Chet Boisvert. Chet was the village barber and the shop was equipped with showers for the lumberjacks to come in from the woods for a hot shower! It also had a adjoining beauty parlor downstairs where my Jewelry and Photography Gallery are now. He was also a avid Democrat and held party meetings at the Loft on Main Street. In my guest book I found that his grandchildren had stayed here when I first opened Artists Loft. They left an entry in the guestbook telling of heartwarming memories such as...
- ' The last time I slept in this bedroom was 43 years ago. I can still remember hearing my people cheering at 6 am when they announced the Victory of Harry Truman over Dewey in 1948!'
- 'I remember watching, from the front windows, pulp boats loading logs from the thousands of logs floating in the harbor'
You can still feel those memories at Artists Loft as you gaze out the windows and still see fishing boats and sailboats bobbing in the breezes.
Come share the Magic!

The Artists Loft is located above a jewelry store and photography shop in a classic building on the main street in Grand Marais. The view is amazing from both the bedroom, bathroom tub and living room; the walk to artists point is wonderful and bring on the storms (wow)! It was very cool to be located directly behind the breakwater and light house during the storm. The beginning of winter in the north was a thing to behold. Situated right next to the best Ben Franklin ever and the Gun Flint Tavern next door which had amazing music and great food. Such a great winter escape.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This was my first time at the loft in Grand Marais, MN. Oh my! What a magical little place. If you are looking for something totally different and unique, this is the place to go. Each and every attention to detail is taken to explore your sense!!! From the artwork on the wall to the wonderful cooking utensils and appliances. The master bedroom was one of my favorite places as was the living/dining room. The bed was super comfortable and the windows are right next to the bed so you can get a cool breeze all through the night RIGHT OFF Lake Superior! It was fabulous! The bathroom is also a unique little room, there is an ol' clawfoot bathtub (with shower) which if you want, you can tub it while checking out the Lake, pretty ingenious!!! I especially enjoyed the back porch and deck looking onto a lovely backyard complete with wildflowers, antique signs, furniture and firepit. Like I said, I had a truly wonderful time staying at the loft. The area around is more than picture postcard beautiful! If you have time, don't miss going up to the Grand Portage State Park at the MN/Canadian Border, this is must see with a truly beautiful waterfall (highest one in MN). Right next door there is also a great place to eat and drink with good music. Don't procrastinate! This one is a true find! I'll be back, hopefully soon! We had the pleasure of staying in the Artist's Loft over Memorial Day weekend. Though we've spent time in Grand Marais, up to this point, it was always a day trip. We found the accommodations to be exactly as the pictures show and more. If you love places that are unique and interesting, this is the place for you! It was so fun to have our own little apartment right in downtown Grand Marais. We enjoyed sneaking in our own little private gated entrance. The backyard is a charming and private place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. The kitchen has a full-size fridge and a real oven and stove. The place is stocked with all the basic cooking equipment and Stephan even brought us a brand new frying pan when he noticed the other had been getting a little old. I brought my own electric frying pan which proved unnecessary and Stephan was so kind when I blew a fuse. He came over from home on Sunday morning and fixed it for us so our breakfast was saved. There are two bedrooms with a bathroom in the middle. The master bedroom has a great view of the harbor and it was fun to read a book and have a soak in the new little soaking tub. I think this would be a great place for anyone who has kids or two couples who are close. Our dog loved the accommodations and loved Grand Marais. We certainly appreciated being able to bring him along. I can't say enough about the bright cheery colors and the artwork that fills the space. I love the paintings at the foot of the master bed and the relief work in the stairway. If you're tired of chain hotels with white walls, crappy prints, and chintzy bedspreads, take a chance on a unique experience. You won't regret it! Stephan is so wonderful and the apartment is certainly the coolest place to stay in Grand Marais. We would definitely considering renting it for a month in the future!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We enjoyed the whole time we spent in Grand Marais. The Artist's Loft is centrally located and was very clean and comfortable. It's eclectic decor made it fun. The kitchen is especially well equiped and ready for cooking. The bed was really cozy. Having a beautiful view of the lake from the livingroom and bedroom windows was a plus. The town has many great places to eat (The Angry Trout and The Crooked Spoon for example). We took several side trips and enjoyed all the scenic area. We're looking forward to a return trip in June 2012!Recommended for: Pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My (now) husband I stayed at the Artists Loft four nights in late July. It was an amazing experience and part of that was the Artists Loft. Let me start at the beginning....Stephan made our engagement ring after my husband proposed to me last year on a trip to Grand Marais, and he also made our wedding band. Both are beautiful and unique, and we couldn't be happier with the finished product - we get compliments all the time. After deciding we would have a small wedding in Grand Marais we booked the Artists Loft for our stay. It is exactly what we were looking for; a home away from home where we had the ability to cook and entertain guests. The garden patio outside is perfect for cocktail hour or simply lounging with friends if you don't feel like exploring the town - and you are right downtown so you are close to everything. Stephan was also a wealth of information while we were planning our wedding, he put us in touch with an officiant and also took our wedding photos. All in all, the weekend would not have been as stress free if not for him, thank you Stephan! If you are getting married or having a small event I would highly recommend the Artists Loft, you will not regret it!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 glorious days, and loved it. The view is great. Next to a great bar/restaurant. It's very cozy, and eclectic for all the artsy fans. The owner was always available if we needed anything (which we didn't.) Well stocked, and comfortable. The backyard is a hoot. We have recommended this loft to many people, just hope it's available again for us to use!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My wife and I spent four days at the artists loft with our 4 month old daughter. It was our first trip for the 3 of us and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The artists loft is perfectly located in downtown Grand Marais. We enjoyed the beautiful sunset views, the cozy rooms, the perfectly equipped kitchen and the gardens in the back. Stephan was great to rent from and gave us great advice about what to do and where to dine. Stephan also conducted a fantastic photo shoot of our daughter and we couldn't be more thrilled with his pictures. He is an excellent photographer and offered a more than reasonable photo package. If you like staying at distinctive, cozy, and comfortable places, then the artists loft is the place in Grand Marais.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Artists Loft in Grand Marais, MN is everything it is described to be, and more. Step inside the door and you will be stepping into a gallery of art, from the mosaic on the staircase wall to the amazing collection of local and distant artist's work. The walls, painted in their eclectic variety of colors, only enhance the personality of this little jewel in the heart of downtown Grand Marais. The artwork is tastefully hung and perfectly arranged to cover the wall space of the loft. Oh, and what an amazing backyard! It's beautifully manicured gardens, deck, fire pit, and hanging porch swing are a pleasant surprise and benefit to a stay at Artists Loft. From the pictures I notice that it has all new kitchen appliances, and they've remodeled bathroom since my last stay there. What great upgrades! I have to say that adding the window in the bathroom was a good move, it looks awesome! Walking by, you could pass it without notice. But lucky for you, you've come across this little gem and you will fall in love with its character. You will be awestruck by your stay in Artists Loft. Can't wait for my next stay!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We stayed at the Artist's Loft in October 2010 for two nights and loved every single inch of this place. We are both artists and search the web extensively in order to stay in places that are unique, comfortable, and interesting... Stephan's 'creative oasis' did not disappoint. From both the living room and master bedroom we were able to look out onto the rugged beauty of Lake Superior, yet we were also in the thick of Grand Marais' arts/entertainment district... the best of both worlds! The original artwork is amazing, the renovated bathroom is super cool and the bed is like sleeping on a plush cloud. It felt like we were staying in someone's home and that we were being trusted to take care of everything in it. We will definitely stay here again and hope that we can stay longer next time. Thanks, Stephan, for offering such an incredible place for a reasonable price. We hope to see you again soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This loft absolutely radiates charm and coziness. Very wonderfully decorated with the personal touch and eye for unique, artful, and welcoming. I stayed for an entire week & immediately felt at home as if I'd lived there for years. The front room is spacious and has a wonderful view of the harbor and downtown activity. The bedroom is inviting, the bed pleasantly gigantic. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook a meal of your own (I did, often!), and off the back is a small 3-season porch leading out onto a deck overlooking the back private grounds and a wide view of the mountains. Centrally set in town so everything is within walking distance. I would heartily recommend this for a weekend getaway, an hermitage of serenity where you can just slow down and simply "be".Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
