Barcelona suite at the historic (circa 1911) Cooperage
Staying in the 900 sq. ft. Barcelona suite is like traveling abroad with an eclectic mix of decor. Renaissance antiques, oriental rugs, Mid-century modern, original art, Gourmet country kitchen, along with 46" Sony HD TV, cable HBO, Blu-ray player, and Wi-Fi, add up to a wonderful mix of style and modern convenience. The suite has a large living room/ dining room , 2 air conditioned bedrooms, one with king bed and the other with queen bed, country kitchen with all utensils, large bathroom with double marble sinks and a tub/shower.
The suite is in the front second floor of the historic Cooperage Inn with private front stairway, one block from the Sonoma plaza, and looks out over the city and Depot park across the street. Depot park has horseshoe pits, the largest petanque courts in the U.S., swings for children and the Sonoma bike path runs through it. Many of our guests rent bicycles that are delivered to their door so they may tour the city and close by wineries, shops and restaurants without ever getting back in their car.
A nice patio area with tables, umbrellas, and a barbecue are open in the back. The rate is $375 a night . An elaborate continental breakfast is served to the door at 8 a.m. Your hosts, artists Claudia and Ken Wagar have their studios and gallery on the first floor and welcome to look around.

My husband and I loved our stay at the Cooperage Inn. We were in Sonoma for a long weekend and just loved the place. We had the Bonnemort Suite was roomy, airy, and sunny. The living room and bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The paintings on the walls were fantastic and we just loved the cozy feel of the entire place. Claudia was a wonderful hostess and breakfast was delicious and plentiful! The location was only 1.5 blocks from downtown Sonoma, 1 block from the bike/running path, and walking distance to multiple great restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping. Breakfast was amazing. Claudia was a wonderful hostess and an amazing painter! We couldn't leave the place without taking some of her paintings home with us. We would definitely come back and stay here again next time we are in town!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We fell in love with Sonoma and the Cooperage Suites immediately! Our beautiful, cozy and spacious apartment was more beautiful than the photos and a monument to the elegance of the turn of the century. Every room in the suite reflected the artist/owners' attention to detail and design. Also, a beautiful breakfast appeared on our doorstep every morning, like magic! The Suites are a block to the Plaza and surrounded by delicious restaurants and intriguing shops. One could leave their car parked for the entire stay. Thanks Claudia for a perfect experience!! We look forward to returning soon!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The four of us (2 adults/2 teens) loved the location less than a block from the square. Claudia was amazing and the breakfasts served were well beyond expectations. Claudia's art is amazing and you need to meander around her gallery downstairs. Beds were comfortable and the entire space felt like a cozy relative's home. Also, daily towel service was a surprise! A few minor points: TV did not work but we really were ok with that, and no DVD for films that we brought. If you are a neat freak, the place could use a thorough cleaning and dusting (check those lamp shades!). Despite the small downsides I would definitely stay again! I love historic properties!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: These were great folks and I'm so glad they enjoyed their stay with us despite the dust and TV problem.. I feel I must respond simply to show that I read these reviews and they are very important to our success and our guests comfort. I don't have much defense for the dust issue. Sonoma is hot and dry in the summer and I do dust aggressively before each guest arrival but the fact is that Victorian furniture went out of fashion for a reason and I think I know what it might be. All those curves and crannies! Lampshades? I guess I missed that lesson. As for the TV, well the sad fact is that both of us showed our lovely guests (and they were really nice) which HDTV number it had to be on to operate. But it wasn't on the right one when we checked it. The TV is a beautiful 46" flat screen and does work great! I''m just glad they didn't really want it and were so generous as to write such a nice review anyway.

My wife and I and our two adult sons had a great visit at the Cooperage Inn. The rooms were very large and comfortable as advertised, and the location was perfect, just one block from Sonoma Plaza and very close to hiking and biking trails. Claudia was an excellent hostess, and her husband prepared delicious breakfasts. We enjoyed ourselves and we highly recommend the Cooperage Inn.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We've only been here for 20 years and finally decided to open up this fabulous place for others to enjoy! Guest comments will be forthcoming! Everybody loves it here. One wealthy Austrailian hotelier even said it was the best place he and his wife stayed in the United States! We found out that we really love to do this. It's very rewarding getting so much praise for all the creative work that went into this place!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
