Staying aboard "Kon-Tiki" is a unique way to spend a weekend or a week in the heart of Boston.
Minutes from any downtown location by foot, water shuttle, or free bus, you will discover Boston’s waterfront right “in the water”! "Kon-Tiki" is just a few minutes walk from Boston's Freedom Trail, the Bunker Hill Monument and Pavilion, the USS Constitution and Museum, and landmark restaurants such as Todd English's Olives and the Warren Tavern, one of Paul Revere's favorite haunts. Minutes away by free bus or $1.75 water shuttle are the New England Aquarium, Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall, Boston’s Italian North End, a large outdoor neighborhood swimming pool, a free tennis court, a public ice skating rink, and countless other things to see and do.
This fun and funky houseboat comes complete with a private stateroom on the main level with a full-sized bed and a private full bath with shower. Below deck is a second sleeping cabin with two full beds, each with port holes looking out over the ocean, and a second full bath...perfect for kids!
A galley kitchen is on the main level as you walk through the sliding glass door off the dock. It is set up with fridge, stove and oven, and all the needed utensils, pots, pans, etc.; we include staples like coffee, and condiments. There is a flat panel TV with cable & DVD player on board, which you can watch while enjoying a tropical drink in the "Tiki Lounge" inspired living room.
Aloft is the sun deck with seating for six and views for miles. Catch some rays and relax with the rolling of the ocean and exceptional views of the Boston skyline.
WiFi is included free with the rental. Laundry facilities (as well as additional on-shore bathrooms and showers) are conveniently located right at the marina. Also, right on the pier is Tavern on the Water, a restaurant and bar with a great view of the Boston skyline, and on-shore grilling and picnic facilities. "Kon-Tiki" is fully air-conditioned and heated and all linens and towels are provided as well as an iron, ironing board, hairdryer, and bathroom products such as soaps, shampoos, and lotions.
"Kon-Tiki" is large enough to comfortably accommodate up to four adults or 2 adults with a few children. All this for less than the price of a room at any of the nearby hotels!
If you are flying into Boston, we can provide you with information to arrange for a private water taxi to pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the houseboat.
If you are arriving by car, you can park in a nearby parking garage (2 blocks). It is $18/day. You then will have the choice of using your own car for excursions away from downtown or availing yourself of the water shuttle or free bus service for local destinations.
What's it like staying on a houseboat? The boat is in a protected part of the marina, but there is some occasional movement during the day when boats pass by. It is usually very calm during the night, although some guests find a bit of gentle swaying is relaxing and can lead to a very restful sleep.
It is truly our goal that every guest have an exceptional and memorable experience, so come float away your tensions, inhale pure sea air and nautical vibes, 'chill' in an outdoor, downtown setting during the most picturesque time of the year! Ahhhh...

Why the Owner Chose Boston
I grew tired of boring hotel rooms while traveling, and realized that the funkiest parts of town were often right at the waterfront. I combined my love for houseboating with my desire to offer a fun alternative to hotel stays.
The Unique Benefits at this House Boat
Everything you will need for your stay is provided. All towels, linens, blankets, etc... are all waiting for your arrival. The kitchen comes complete with all the pots and pans, plates and cutlery you will need, while a coffee maker, microwave, fridge, stove, and gas grill make putting together a meal easy and convenient.
Owner's Map of Boston
For about 10 years I lived aboard a restored houseboat in Boston Harbor. I really fell in love with the lifestyle. Having a cup of coffee on the front porch in the morning, grilling up some steaks on the roofdeck in the evening, and being rocked to sleep by the waves at night was a great way to live!

Dated and Musty

After reading some reviews (whick were quite old) we decided to book this boat for a weekend in Boston (Oct 2011). I was not a good decision. The boat looked from the outside to be about the oldest one docked and once inside the first impression was confirmed. Looks to be a 1960's vintage give or take, that has not been remodelled or updated in any manner. Musty smell, many wall light fixtures did not work and others were the clip on, portable type with long, loose extension cords to be plugged into nearby or in some cases distant outlets (potential electrical/fire hazzard). We have stayed in many places, some good, some not, but this was one of the worse yet. Had planned to stay the weekend but after one night vacated the tub and went to a nearby hotel. Sent an email to the rental agent/owner explaining the problem(s) and indicated we felt we were entitled to a partial rental charge credit. Several weeks later our account was credited with a paltry $100. We once again contacted the rental agent/owner inquiring why we only received $100 and heard nothing further. We may try "Sleeping Afloat" again but not on the Kon Tiki in Boston.

Guest: HAC164333 (Baltimaore, MA) Date of Stay: September 2, 2008 Review Submitted: September 2, 2008 We were the first group to stay on the Kon Tiki. What a wonderful vacation. The location is perfect. We parked our car in the free marina lot and never drove again. We took the T, the ferry, and walked to see everything there is to see in Boston. There were 5 children in the group, all who loved the boat. The different decks were a favorite spot for them to hang out. They all looked forward to heading back to the boat after a day of activities. Andy was great. He was devoted to making sure that we had an enjoyable stay on the boat. We could not have found a better place to stay in Boston. Location is ideal - close to transportation, the Freedom Trail, restaurants, stores, and with the most breathtaking views. Thank you! Guest: Everett Price (Marietta, GA) Date of Stay: August 12, 2009 Review Submitted: August 12, 2009 My wife, older son and I enjoyed the stay on the Kon Tiki. The location is great and the float experience was a first and one we will do again. Ryan was great to work with and tended to all our needs. We found all the people in the marina to be very friendly too, giving us advice on where to eat and shop. Although the boat was a good fit for us three, I think we will upgrade to the larger vessels you have in the future. Thanks for making us feel at home on the water. Not being boat people we did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to find a nice boat with good accommodations and even an outdoor grill. Being on the boat at the Marina was an awesome addition to our Boston vacation. The only thing we would have changed is the seating in the livingroom area. Friends who came to visit had no where to sit. We wished there was more comfortable seating like a sectional or two sofas.
