Surreal View and Fantastic Home
Surreal View and Fantastic Home
A wonderfully equipped kitchen helped us make several family meals at home that ranged from burgers on the grill to elaborate Mexican dishes. Beds were wonderful with great linens and towels. This home is a gem and worth every penny, and the master bedroom was so romantic and amazing. The driveway up is a bit of a challenge, and after two days agreed with the car rental that we'd be happier in a four-wheel drive and made the exchange. Loved seeing the shy monkeys! Nevis is a fantastic island still undeveloped in many ways with lots of open space and greenery. We loved it.

Manager response: Kay (manager), Sheon (housekeeper) and my husband and I(owners) are all very pleased that you were happy with the villa, Island Time, and also that you enjoyed the Island. We agree that Nevis is very special. As for the road to our area, we're working on it!

We stayed at the villa for 9 days with our two children and two adult friends. The experience matched the website description. Beautiful sunset view for another year and then the foliage will need trimming! All day view to St. Kitts and the Caribbean - very captivating. Very comfortable house, and in a private setting - which we appreciated more when looking at other homes on the island. The road to the house reminds one of Jurassic Park scenes, but it quickly becomes "the norm" and is the price of the privacy. All of the travel arrangements to get to the villa were perfect and very helpful -- the taxi pick up at St. Kitts airport, the boat ride to Nevis, and the taxi waiting to take us to the villa, where our rental cars were ready for us. After a quick trip down to Sunshine's for some Killer Bees, we felt as if we had been on the island for a week. One tip: find out when the maids are coming, and leave the villa. It is not fun to have both groups in the house at the same time. Nevis Island people were all friendly. It is a Caribbean island to which I would happily return, and that is not something that I would say about every island. And if I were to return, I would hope that Island Time were still available for rental.

Best Experience in the Caribbean
Best Experience in the Caribbean
My husband and I stayed at this beautiful home in April. We have travelled extensively in the Caribbean and this vacation was the best. The views are spectacular. We wanted peace and quiet and all we heard was the chirp of birds. There are many great restaurants near by but the kitchen offers everything we needed to prepare great meals. To lay by the pool and read and have heaven in your sights was magnificent. We loved watching the monkeys play in the yard early in the morning. We had such a nice breeze we really didn't need air-conditioning and the breeze kept the mosquitoes away. Fabulous Heavenly Vacation!!

Manager response: Thank you for the kind words. We're so pleased you enjoyed Nevis and that you chose Island Time for your vacation. All the best, Carol and Peter
Where to start in a description of Island Time? With the magnificent view of St. Kitts and the Caribbean? With the fabulous kitchen, filled with high-quality kitchen utensils and gadgets that turned “eating in” into an delightful cooking adventure with a view? With the lovely outside shower from which to watch the morning sky over St. Kitts turn from rosy pink to blue and the twinkling lights of Basseterre glow under the warm winter moon? With the light-filled master bedroom that’s as much a luxurious cabana as a place to sleep? With the fireflies flashing silently in the yard and the chirping nighttime chorus that lulls you to sleep? Island Time is all this and more. In short, Island Time exceeded our every expectation on every possible front. A sampling of some delightful moments during our two-week Christmas 2010 holiday at Island Time included: - Scouting out the massive, incredible baobab tree at the Montravers Plantation ruins. Baobab trees hold their own water supply – up to 32,000 gallons – in their trunks. They’re truly amazing. - Savoring a drink on the lounging cushions at Sunshine’s.Why don’t more bars look like this? - Before the excellent and renowned Wednesday pig roast at The Hermitage, watching the hummingbirds buzz among the flowering shrubs. - Buying a coconut from a roadside coconut peddler, whereupon he hacked an opening and inserted a straw. What a subtle and lovely treat. - Enjoying a Christmas Day swim on Herberts Beach, with a peanut butter and jelly picnic (local passion fruit for desert) to rival any conventional Christmas feast. - Watching the shy vervet monkeys pick and eat the one flower brave enough to bloom each day on the shrub in the middle of Island Time’s backyard. And watching them watch us. - Heading over to St. Kitts to discover NYTimes-mentioned Caribelle Batik on the exquisite Romney Estate. Picking and eating sugar cane from the St. Kitts fields. - Savoring the coconut ice cream at the little ice cream shop on the (east) side of the road in Brick Kiln. And finally, enjoying every minute in this home. The sheer ease of living - sleeping, cooking, dining, reading - and the enjoyment of simple pleasures that Island Time permitted - the brief but intense rain on the roof, the construction of the massive jigsaw puzzle - was simply extraordinary. I found myself fantasizing about how I could make my own home as comfortable and inviting as this one.

Rental dates: Feb 12th-Feb 27th 2010 This was a working vacation for my husband and myself. Our requirements were high speed internet,a great view, privacy, high end accommodations, and a good kitchen. Island Time delivered. The owners of this amazing home care about the guests who rent from them. They offer two loose-leaf notebooks filled with house operation information and "things to do" / restaurant recommendations. They have done everything possible to make sure your visit is comfortable and enjoyable. The house manager, Kay Loomis was extremely attentive. And the house cleaner who came once a week was excellent. Although the high speed internet tended to be a bit spotty, we were able to do all our work while enjoying the fabulous every changing views of St Kitt. You need to be a bit adventuress to get to Nevis and drive it's roads, but Island Time is well worth it. The house is even better than the photos show. We plan to make the trip again next year! My husband and I just returned from a surprise birthday trip to Island Time and Nevis. The house was really lovely and private, with everything we needed to relax and experience our first trip to Nevis. The pre-trip arrangements were very helpful to me as a novice and all of the arrival arrangement were seamless - St. Kitts taxi, water taxi and Nevis taxi. Kay, the house manager, is very accessible and helpful. The house has a beautiful open plan that allows breezes to flow through during the day, yet can be easily secured when leaving the property. The kitchen is great, we loved the extensive variety of dinnerware and glassware, as well as utensils and serving items. We also have a rental property and it was great to see someone else providing guest access to pantry basics like sea salt, olive oil, and spices. This is an outstanding benefit to people who are traveling and won't be using up a full package of any of these. The house manual is very helpful. For those planning their first trip a few items that may help to know in advance - 1) as Kay will recommend, you will need a high clearance rental car for the roads (to the house as well as to all of the really cool stuff like Bananas restaurant, Lover's Beach, Windward Beach, etc.), 2) Make sure you top up the local cell phone early and sufficiently, short calls are expensive, being put on hold can drain the paid up amount, and having it for minor emergencies (like flat tires) is very important, 3) be ready for some off-roading - there are fewer paved roads than in the States, but they are all passable and worth negotiating to get to the best and most interesting places. Thanks very much to Carol and Kay - we will be back as soon as possible!

I have been renting cottages and villas in the Caribbean for almost 50 years. Some have been "adventures". Others: not so much. Over time, I have witnessed many of the islands go from sweet, clean, safe and unspoiled to over-crowded, dirty and to-some-extent, scarey. The last time I was on Nevis was 18 years ago. I returned early 2009 and much to my pleasure and relief I was surprised to find Nevis still glorious and better than when last I was here. Island Time is the Villa we chose and from the moment we arrived to the day we closed the door behind us, we were astonished by our good fortune. Island Time is perched above the trees, facing St. Kitts and staggeringly-beautiful sunsets. Everthing, yes, everything at Island Time was extraordinarily comfortable and well-thought-out. For those of you who cook, the kitchen was amazing. I would recommend this beautiful site to almost everyone. "Almost" because I (selfishly) want to keep Island Time a bit of a secret. We will return...For sure.

Island Time is a fantastic spot for a family or a few couples. We organized 3 couples and it was perfect. Quiet, incredible views, beautiful home and wonderful hosts(the Willauers). Rent a vehicle and then swim at Lover's Beach, lunch at a different plantation each day, and enjoy local watering holes at night. A GREAT week.

Our second renters just left, a family of 3 (including an eight year old boy). They wrote: "The home you have is unbelievable. For us, the privacy, views, breezes, uncompromising amenities all added up to a relaxing, recharging experience. We want to come back for sure. A week is way too short." Our third renters are there now. When I called to see how everything was going one of them said: "I've rented houses all over the world and have never found a place like this. You've thought of everything." Pretty cool!

Our first guest wrote this comment: "The pictures don't begin to show how beautiful this house is. The view is really spectacular. It's a comfortable house to be in, everything fresh and tasteful, with lots of room, but also very private. I was really impressed. More than I ever expected. And we loved Nevis. We spent a lot of time on the beach at Nisbet Plantation because there is a nice restaurant there. The people in Nevis are so nice too. Even though Nevis is small, we found lots to do and see. Great restaurants -- we did the 'pig roast' at Hermitage which is not to be missed; every Wednesday night. Dancing at Nisbet and Oualie. Killer Bees at Sunshine's, teeshirt shopping in Charlestown with a cool one at the Cafe des Artes after. And a float in Island Time's pool at the end of the day. We will definitely come back."

About: We've been coming to Nevis for more than 30 years. Carol used to manage one of the Island's hotels and brought Peter here when they married. When we decided to build on this very special Island, we were lucky to find the very spot Carol had always dreamed about. We think we've got the most beautiful site and home on the island. We are avid sailors and sail on our 42' sailboat to Nevis every year from New England where we enjoy our summers sailing mostly in Maine. We have 3 sons, 8 grandchildren, and lots of neices and nephews.
Why Fern Hill:
When Carol lived in Nevis over 30 years ago, she used to hike in Tower Hill Estate, a huge palm forest next door to our property. She always wanted to live here, and when the site came available, we bought it and built our home. The views are unbelievable, looking northwest across the Nevis Narrows (body of water between Nevis and St. Kitts). It's a great place to see the "greenflash", by the way. And Nevis is a special jewel of an island; unspoiled and very careful of its historic and natural treasures, of which there are many. We especially love the people of Nevis; open, warm, friendly.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We enjoy every time of the day. The view from the sunset terrace changes all day long; we never tire of it. The morning sun rises above Mt. Nevis behind us, shining on St. Kitts across the Narrows, and bringing morning sun to the dining pavilion. When the sun is high overhead, the sea becomes turquoise and it seems like we can touch the islands in our view. At sunset, we watch the sun go down with a drink on the terrace. The pool is spectacular all day (and for late night swims!). We love to hike in the rainforest right from our doorstep and watch the monkeys play in the trees. Sleeping is wonderful here because it is so quiet. And no "moseys" -- except in the rainy season in September and October, and then only a few.
