Truly Wonderful!

We stayed here over Thanksgiving and the cabin exceeded our expectations! Because we wanted to reproduce our traditional thanksgiving dinner, we brought quite a few things with us and were prepared to “make do” with the rest. Needless to say, the kitchen was so well stocked that we could have left our items at home and there was no “making do”….it was perfect. The solitude was exactly what we were looking for and the views did not disappoint. The owners were beyond accommodating and we cannot recommend this property more.

Our Family Stay at Monica & Charles' Cabin #199538

We stayed at the cabin mid September with our son & daughter in law who live in CO but who hadn't experienced this high altitude area yet. They were as impressed as we were with the awesome setting and the beautiful scenery that surrounded the cabin. The listing information and pictures of the interior were very accurate, and cooking in the well stocked kitchen was a pleasure. The owners provided so much information on activities and attractions both before our arrival, and at the cabin, which made it really easy to plan our horseback riding, ATVing and hiking adventures. We were even lucky enough to attend the Oktoberfest in Breckenridge ( a charming town that is a must!). We would recommend this property to anyone who appreciates beauty, comfort, serenity, nature, or simply a wonderful setting to share with loved ones.

Perfect retreat for the whole family

My family and I just returned from a week's stay at this property and it was one of the best vacations we're ever taken. The cabin was in great shape and comfortably accomodated my wife and I as well as our 3 young childeren. We cooked in for almost every meal and the kitchen was well stocked and big enough to easily move around in. The photos in the listing do the property some justice, but the magnificence of the views from the deck are hard to capture. I had some phone issues that prevented me from down loading the instructions on how to access the keys to the gate and cabin and the owners were immediately available to walk me through it, which was great. They were a pleasure to deal with when we booked the property as well. We made several trips into Breckenridge to explore the town, do some shopping, and take the kids on the free gondola ride. The trip into Breck took about 40 minutes, so it was an easy day trip. We found that our kids were too young to go on any horse back riding trips (6 yrs old was the age requirement), but one of the ranches near by offered a wagon ride and stable tour that the young ones really enjoyed. We were fortunate enough to see one of the moose that other reviewers have reffered to. It was all of our first time to see one, and as such we were all pretty excited. The only down side is that my 18 month old daughter won't stop saying moose now. I am an avide fly fisherman, and this cabin is perfectly situated for accessing a number of world class fisheries (the Dream Stream, Tomahawk SWA, & 11 Mile Canyon being highlights for me). I also have to say that the small creek running through the property is absolutely full of Brooke Trout and the dry fly fishing with a light wieght outfit was as good as anywhere I've ever been. My family and I are planning to make this an annual retreat and I am already counting the days until we return next year. I would recomend this property in a heart beat.

Relaxing Getaway

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at this very secluded cabin. Views from the deck were outstanding. This cabin was stocked with everything we needed. The pictures and descriptions don't do it justice. While hiking on the property, we saw a mother moose with her new baby and there were two beavers in the pond near the cabin. The fly fishing in the nearby steam was good. The owners were very friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. We hesitate to recommend this cabin as we want to keep this cabin to ourselves. :) We are already planning our trip for next year.

A wonderful private getaway

We stayed at this cabin from July 4-11, 2010, and it was truly one of the best vacations ever! The cabin is nestled in a gorgeous, private mountain setting and the sound of the mountain streams fill your ears when outside. We enjoyed sitting in the Adirondak chairs/rockers that are thoughtfully placed in various outside locations overlooking the amazing views. We hiked up the 12,000+ foot mountain adjacent to the cabin, and the views from on top were so beautiful. We also conquered nearby Mount Sherman, our first 14er! There is so much to do and explore in this area, and the cabin's setting is unsurpassed by any. Two bull moose even came right up the driveway and stood about 50 feet from us! The inside of the cabin was very clean and well-equipped with everything we needed. Wi-Fi, cable, a telescope for stargazing, binoculars, and even hiking sticks and whistles. We had such a good time, and our week passed all too quickly. This is definitely a cabin we hope to visit again!

I wanted to let you know that the stay at the cabin was unbeliveable. We were so amazed at the scenary and location of the cabin. We saw all types of wildlife while staying such as moose, mountain Lion, beavers and elk, what an adventure. The kids were thrilled by the fish in the pond and were overjoyed by the snow that came down while we were their. The location was close enough to larger communities but yet far enough away. I use to work for Texas Parks & Wildlife and visited many Parks and have seen very nice areas along with nice cabins, this compared to yours were no match. Your location was nicer than any location I have ever visited, and I have been to many locations.

My family spent the 4th of July Holiday at the Mountain Creek Lodge. We were more than pleasantly surprised when we drove up the secluded driveway, WOW, what a view!! The pictures on the website just don’t do justice to the breathtaking mountain views! We had 6 adults and 3 children staying at the property and we never once felt crowded. The cabin is very open with lots of room. The first evening two moose traveled down the driveway and were literally 50 feet from us! We got some wonderful pictures. We saw two more moose the following evening (we were pretty sure they were the same ones from the night before) and they didn’t really seem to care much about us. They ate and drank and allowed us to take as many pictures as we wanted. The kids enjoyed feeding the numerous chipmunks that would come up to the large rocks located around the cabin. We also spotted mule and whitetail deer. The boys caught many brook trout up-stream and in the nearby pond and ventured into Fairplay for rainbow trout fishing. Several of us climbed up the mountain located just next to the cabin (bring water and take lots of breaks). The views from the top are simply stunning, and I think we spotted the world’s largest jack rabbit at the summit! The weather was pleasant during the day and a bit chilly at night, but all you really needed was a sweatshirt. The large fire pit was perfect for Smores, we all enjoyed sitting around the fire enjoying our surroundings. The ladies traveled up to the outlet shops in Dillon and Silverthorne (just North of Breckenridge), it was only about a 45 minute drive and they had wonderful shopping there. We had a great 3 ½ hour horseback ride at the American Safari Ranch just North of Fairplay, no trail riding here! We were able to venture out on our own and our guide was wonderful…we even got to trot and gallop. As luck would have it, we once again spotted two more moose on the morning of the 4th. This time it was a momma and her calf. What a site to see! We watched the fireworks from a spot overlooking Fairplay, they had a wonderful display. Charlie and Monica definitely have a fabulous place, thank you for sharing it with us!

This place was awesome! Took our 3 kids with us and they had a blast! We got a visit from 2 moose one morning even! The views were breathtaking from any window in the cabin. We went hiking up to the snow and all played in that! The kids fished in the creek in front of the house and caught & released trout. Even had a marshmallow roast at the fire pit. Even had cable & wifi availability for the day it rained! We didn't want for anything. Definitely will be recommending this one to our friends!

PERFECT!

Myselft and 6 friends recently went to Colorado. Only 2 of us had been to the mountains before and we were really hoping for a scenic and full experience. I was in charge of lodging and at first it was a headache. I went through 2 realtors and both tried to pull a sort of bait and switch on me. I had no contacts in the state and was flying blind as far as areas and what the place I was renting really looked like. Thank God for the Moody's. This cabin was amazing from the wrap around porch to the wood burning stove. The place was prestine when we arrived full of inormation about the surrounding areas. All of the amenities of home were included and the veiws were spectatcular. We arrived to 4 feet of snow and it snowed for 2 days. Thanks to the wonderful cabin with ample space it was easy to stay inside and wait out the storm. On the third day we finally got to experience the outdoors. We hiked up to about 13000 feet through tons of snow to take in the amazing view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. We took full advantage of the supplied firewood and gas grill. The table was perfect for boardgames and the two bathrooms were a huge plus with bigger group. The washer and dryer were perfect for cleaning and drying clothes after our long hikes. This was the exact experience we were looking for; close enough to a town for supplies but far enough away to feel secluded and away from it all. My group cannot wait to return, especially when it is warmer. You cannot go wrong with this cabin, we have no complaints! Thanks again to our wonderful 'hosts'!

Our family was looking “to escape” from the big city for a quiet and intimate vacation and we found it! Taking advantage of an extended weekend we joined up with good friends from Denver to enjoy this luxurious log cabin surrounded by acres of open space. The first day we took full advantage of the fishing opportunities available on the property. While my wife and kids spin casted at the pond, I hit the small streams to catch numerous brook trout. I especially had good luck fly fishing in the early evening in waters upstream widened and deepened from beaver dams. The next day we drove over to Breckenridge to shop for some hiking shoes. We were surprised by how close the ski town was to our cabin, taking about a half hour to cross over Hoosier Pass. Our final day we packed a lunch and took a day hike from our elevation of around 11,000 feet up to the summit of a mountain directly across the valley from Mount Sherman. The views were spectacular as we looked west towards old mining camps in Lake County, east towards the South Park valley and straight down at the high mountain lakes and meandering brook. The hike was especially rewarding since my son accomplished his first major mountain ascent. At night, after enjoining dinner, our group played card and board games and watched movies by the fire. From the wrap around porch we gazed at stars in the huge sky and watched the nearly full moon rise over the hill to our north. We were all very pleased with the accommodations—the complete kitchen, the comfortable bedrooms and numerous amenities. Charlie and Monica haven’t missed any details—even providing whistles, compasses and a backpack for journeys into the surrounding valleys and mountains!

We have traveled all over Colorado. We love its rustic beauty - and by far this is the most beautiful setting we've ever seen (at least where we weren't sleeping on the ground). We were looking for a quiet place to spend our 27th Anniversary. Only an hour and a half from Denver - it's the whole package! Comfortable accomodations with lots of attention to detail. Ultimate privacy off a private gated road and spectacular views from anywhere in the great room, loft or wrap around deck. And don't forget the sound from the creek outside your door ... it forms into a pond with lots of little brook trout. Almost at timberline, the meadow and peaks are mezmerizing. And the moose that trotted out from the trees was a nice addition too!!! Charlie & Monica were very accomodating and wonderful "landlords" - God Bless you both for sharing your little piece of heaven. (We only hope that all we've said doesn't ruin our chances to book in the future!)"

My wife and I and another couple stayed at the cabin Sept 12-14, 2008, and it was one of the best weekend getaways we've experienced. The house is modern, very well appointed, and extremely comfortable. The wood stove makes it a very cozy place to hunker down with a glass of wine and a good book (or a good movie, for that matter) on a brisk autumn night. And the setting is simply unbelievable. It is like backpacking but in a very nice country house instead of a tent. We hiked right from the house up the hillside (no trail needed, since the house is very near treeline) up to a 12,000-foot high spot along a ridge overlooking God's country. Two of us were suffering from colds, so we didn't try Mt. Sherman, a 14er. But it should be quite doable. On our hike, we spotted a mountain goat, who had absolutely no fear of us. He allowed us to come within 30 yards. We got no closer because we just wanted to leave him in peace. Down in the valley where the cabin is situated, you'll find where beavers go when they die and ascend to heaven. It is one beaver dam after another, creating a lovely mix of running stream and ponds. If you're a fly fisherman, you'll love it. Actually, anyone would love it! It's incredibly peaceful and beautiful. We also saw the tracks of elk and possibly a moose. So if you're looking for a quick weekend escape away from everything, or a place to kick back for a week, check out this cabin. I know we will be going back!
