The house is beautiful! We had a very nice weekend there. We hiked Bald Mtn., walked around Old Forge and enjoyed the beautiful view of the Lake. We loved the hot tub. Very comfortable. Lots of deer around. We also saw a bob cat! He crossed the road in front of us as we were returning from town in the afternoon. Just a couple houses away. The kitchen could use some real coffee cups and wine glasses. We also were surprised we had to pay for firewood. Other than that loved it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We selected this home as our “base of operations” for hosting our daughter’s wedding in Old Forge. It was a great choice. Some comments on the interior: On our arrival, we were greeted by an awesome, colorful view across the lake and a wide array of taxidermy (Bears, cougars, turkeys and deer just to name a few). The living room fireplace is very impressive and very functional. We had a few enjoyable evening fires. The kitchen is equally functional and served the purpose as we entertained and prepared for the wedding reception (held at the View-Old Forge Arts Center). The arrangement and size of the bedrooms was perfect for hosting some of our family members. The master suite upstairs (which we occupied) is huge and is equipped with a gas fireplace. Very nice touch! We were not able to enjoy the exterior features as much as we wanted due to plenty of rain this fall. However, the hot tub did get some use and it was a great contrast to the chilly air. The decks, boat launch, outdoor fire pit and the lake did not get much use this time around. The outdoor setup beckons, “Come back in the summer!” We hope to!! Some aspects of the home are still a “work in process” (the detached garage and the master suite bathroom). This does not detract from the stay in the least. The only bummer of the whole week was the outdoor grill. As avid outdoor cookers, we found the grill unusable. Overall, this is a great vacation home, well maintained, clean, good customer service and just plain amazing. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!Owner response: A new outdoor grill has been purchased

This was the best family vacation we have been on so far. The house was awesome, just the way the pictures show is what you get! "Beautiful" We had plenty of room, its was clean, well maintained, the care taker called to make sure everything was going well, he was very friendly. The owner provided great info on launching our boat. We made great family memories. The worst part was my twelve hour drive home to Michigan. None of us wanted to leave. I would highly recommend this property to family and friends. I'm so glad we made the trip.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

This is a beautiful home located on a beautiful lot overlooking the lake near Old Forge, NY. The setting is gorgious with great views of the lake, its islands and the surrounding mountains. It is near Old Forge with lots of biking, hiking, boating and other outdoor activities. We had a great time celebrating our 50 wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren. The house is large, beautiful and eventhough it rained for 3 days we never felt crowded or uncomfortable. We enjoyed some very beautiful sunsets, lake and mountain views and family time together while setting around a nice camp fire overlooking the lake. This house is a "work in progress" and I would estimate it to be 98 % complete. There is a garage being constructed beside the entry road to the house. Don't let this detract from your enjoyment of the house or the surrounding views. You will find areas in the house where work is planned or in progress. Again, don't let those items detour you from enjoying this beautiful home in a beautiful setting. We found the owner very responsive to our questions and to needs reported to him. He very quickly answered several question we had before arriving and quickly took care of a trash bin problem. A bear had demolished the trash bin and scattered trash over a large area. If you have a question or problem, do not hesitate to contact the owner; based on our experience i'm sure he will respond. Although, we did not see a live bear; we did see lots of wildlife: deer, turkeys and their young. The road out front of the house offered an easy walk with good wildlife viewing. The drive to the chair lift and the town area was also productive for viewing. Workers at the grocery store indicated the bears visit their trash bin nightly but we never saw them. If we were to again travel to the Old Forge area, we would book this house. We live in Southwest Florida, a 1500 mile drive to Old Forge. I would quickly rate this home a 5 if it were not for a few unfinished items such as no towel racks in the bathrooms. We toured the chain of lakes on a rented pontoon boat and voted this house one of the best 6 or 8 viewed from it's overall exterior appearance and views available. .Did you find this review helpful? I have personally been around the world many times. I have vacationed in numerous places with my boys and by far this was our best vacation EVER! The views were breathtaking. The breeze off the lake was delightful. The loons at night were compelling.Sitting in the hot tub overlooking the lake the best medicine for a single mom by far! Best of all the house was beyond anything we ever expected. It was like a contest to see how many animals we could find in the decor. There is nothing misleading in anything this owner has presented. Any questions I had were answered promptly. I highly recommend this property for its location near Old Forge with the water park, Bald Mountain. Easy driving to Blue Mountain Lake and the Adirondack Museum and so many more things to do and see. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! Am hoping to come back again next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

If you're considering this property for a vacation-do it! Do not hesitate, you will not be disappointed- the log home and surroundings are amazing! We went for four days and can't wait to return and stay longer. we had some rainy weather, but it didn't seem to matter, because staying in the house was so incredible, who ever furnished this home knew what they were doing.. We have been going up to Old Forge for the last 12 years, I only wish we had known about this property sooner. Once we were settled in (there were three couples) there was no reason to go anywhere else. We were visited by a deer, a mama duck and babies, a friendly black lab, and a roaming bear in the driveway. Extremely private, you will love the hot tub, huge deck, fireplace, view of the lake - quite romantic. The caretakers are only a phone call away and very friendly. Reasonably priced, you too will count yourself lucky to have stayed here.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

This past weekend ten friends shared lots of laughs and made many many awesome memories at this gorgeous Old Forge Lake House! This rental property was exactly as described! If you think the photos are nice it's even more breathtaking in person! Even the bathrooms were fantastic! The view is absolutely beautiful, the house is out of a magazine! Super spacious, filled with everything you could possibly need! From a grill, to a fireplace, pool table, glassware, toaster, catch phrase, cable, comfortable beds, fun outdoorsy decor, washer/dryer, you name it I'm almost certain this property most likely has it. The hot tub is just the best especially under the bright starry sky. It slept 10 of us comfortably and was still room for more. We had the best of time! Would definitely recommend.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The rental was gorgeous and exactly as promoted in all literature. The home owner was quick to respond to all my questions prior to our arrival. The house layout accommodated our group perfectly. When our truck/trailer got stuck on the incline of the driveway, the housekeeper was quick to respond to my call with salting/sanding assistance. Thank You! Additions i would suggest to this rental would be: more lighting in the living room, larger vanities in the master bath/with over mirror lighting.... otherwise it was perfect! We will surely be booking again next year! Thank you very much Jeff for sharing your wonderful home with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Our group greatly enjoyed a repeat February Presidents week in 2011 & 2012 at this beautiful Old Forge Log Home Rental! At arrival, we backup to within 5' of the large wooded doorway & unloaded. (No carrying belongings upstairs and toting +100' to get inside). Plenty of room for parking, 4-5 vehicles lower level & 3 lg snowmobile trailers & trucks on the upper level. 4WD/AWD is recommended for the Adironacks winter. Plowing down to the house was done every snowy day without us moving our cars and without a call by us Once inside, the view of 1st Lake was breath-taking. We saw the mountains across the Lake above Hollywood Hills and on a clear day the fire tower on Bald mountain. Freezing blowing days looked like the Arctic on the Lake but we were cozy and warm. The home's open architecture for the Great Room, Dining room, kitchen and foyer made it easy to view the lake. The decor was made for the relaxing vacationer, main floor - 5 comfortable swivel rocking leather chairs and a large L shaped sectional couch in the Great Room for overlooking the Lake, watching TV or just relaxed conversing. There were 3 comfort chairs just off the kitchen where our readers were found relaxing. Our professional relaxing readers had their headlamps for reading during the evening. During the evening we played games at the large dining room table for 12(we brought 4 folding chairs). The stone fireplace, log stairway and animal mountings made the home very majestic. The kitchen was well furnished with glasses, small coffee cups, dishes (generally used paper plates), pots/pans . Our group brought up a cockpot for soup and chili. There is no dishwasher, but we prefer it that way(too noisy with it). A good size kitchen island is raised ~2" making dinner prep easier. After taking our shoes off, we found the floors heated and the home to be amazingly warm esp. with all the windows. The bedrooms were very large/clean with a closet, dresser and mirror. The bathrooms were also large and had a style all their own. We parked our snowmobiles on the landing before the terrace. Our ice fishermen and snowmobilers walked down the stairs and we had instance access to 1st Lake (+14" of ice) and trails to ourself. You are ~2 miles from everything in OF, grocery stores, retail stores, theater(highly recommended) The owner asked us first if we wanted to rent next year, since he already is receiving offers. Superb Adirondack Rental, friendly caretaker, very nice owner. Highly Recommended Rental!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Overall, we did not have a positive experience at this property. The Positives – great location, neighborhood, & setting; a well designed and well built home with some nice features. The Negatives – basically poor maintenance & management – WiFi never functioned reliably and couldn’t host more than 1 device. No dishwasher. Driveway was very icy & unsafe. Firewood is not available without extra $$ and hassle. Lower level didn’t get above 60 degrees. No towel racks in bathrooms. No mirror in lower bath. No adequate reading lamps. With 12 person capacity, the DR table should seat 12 – not 8. Property was not acceptably clean – lots of dust bunnies, cobwebs, even blood stains on bedding (ECHHH). There is a garage under construction with old boats around it. An Info Booklet was promised but never delivered. This is an “A” house with “C minus” furnishings and “D” management. In addition the terms are very aggressive – full payment demanded months & months in advance yet repayment of damage deposit was very slow. We won’t be back.Owner response: The renter called regarding a WiFi problem and the old wireless router was replaced with a new one. The renter mentioned that the recently finished basement bathroom was a bit cold. There was an in-floor heat that had the controls not hooked up yet and we hooked it up for them. These are two items that were mentioned by the renter and we responded immediately!!! There was no mirror in that bathroom while they were there but now a mirror has been installed. On the website listing, there is no mention of a dishwasher. There is also no mention of Firewood which is up to the renter and is not provided by the owner. A contact was given to this renter for firewood. I don't know where the "hassle" came from. According to the website, yes the house will sleep 12 but the dining room table has seating for 8. The renter mentions blood on the bedding..Bedding linens and towels are not supplied by owner and are up to the renter to provide. This renter arranged for their own bedding. This renter was notified in an email that the garage was under construction to add additional space and is not part of rental so they were fully notified of this long before arrival. Two boats are stored next to it for the winter and do not interfere with parking. Because of the weather, there were icy conditions on the driveway. We sanded the driveway several times during their stay to compensate. Concerning the "aggressive terms", the client was invoiced for the rental and asked if we could create terms which we did and they thanked us for it. Payment can be made by credit card and is flexible either paid in thirds or half and half depending on time till rental. Balance is due 30 to 60 days before arrival. This is a 4300 sq foot home is cleaned between rentals before arrival. We leave information to contact us if there are any issues or problems. If we are made aware of any dissatisfaction we will respond immediately. The security deposit is returned in a reasonable period of time but not before 10 business days. We have to make sure that there are no erroneous charges left behind. This deposit was returned on the 16th business day. Reasonably priced damage insurance is now available and being offered in place of a security deposit.

My wife and i decided to invite a very close group of friends to enjoy a relaxing few days in the Adirondacks directly following our very hectic wedding. We ended up having 14 people over the course of 3 days, all of which would say that this place is the most amazing camp we have ever seen(let alone stayed in). Everyone there was originally from the central new york region with the exception of one woman who came in from Alaska. This area(camp) on beautiful first lake significantly changed her overall opinion of new york state. It is not only a beautiful camp...but, will offer the most amazing sunsets(we even got to see the northern lights one night). The craftsmanship and design that went into this camp will blow your mind. The only reason why i would tell someone not to go here would be because they might take dates that would want to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We made a great choice this year in renting this home. We have been renting Adirondack homes for about 30 years. The home is beautiful inside and out. The rooms are large and very clean. The great room is huge and the view is breath taking. The picture of the lakefront home speakes for itself. The bathrooms are all large and the showers are huge. The front deck is huge and the view is gorgeous. Swimming is great with a sandy bottom. The huge tv was a plus and having internet access was very handy. Can't ask for anything more here with this home, We liked it so much, we rented it agin in 2011.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

I was doing my best to arrive at the house before dark. I'm glad I did. From the top of the driveway I could see the lake through the windows of the house. What a view!!! The house is beautiful. Nice and open inside. The walk-in showers were my favorite, along with the large outside deck. The leaves were at their peak. Despite some wet conditions, we had a great time. We purchased some wood in town and had a fire lit inside and outside during our stay. I plan on returning again but probably going to try a different time of year. Our group stayed the week of September 13-20, 2009. There were 12 of us; the camp is well laid out and there was lots of room for everyone to have their own space. We enjoyed cocktails on the roof of the boathouse each night. The water was nice and warm; there were plenty of lawn chairs for all to enjoy the excellent views. The kitchen is nicely equipped and the fridge large enough to accommodate our needs. The camp is well appointed with true Adirondack decor. We all appreciated the proximity to town and the road was great for the walkers in our group. I would definitely recommend this rental!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We just got back from a week at this house and had a great time. The house is in wonderful shape. We have rented several houses throughout the country and so, are very sensitive to what we see on the web vs. what is there when we arrive. In this case, what you see and read on this site is spot on with what you will experience. The owner is restoring the garage and, I assume the boat house eventually (neither is included in the rental...or needed), but the house is basically complete (one more bath in the basement has a little more work to be done). As noted above, everything is as advertised. The newly finished basement has a small pool table which occuppied our two 15 year olds on many nights. The view is spectacular as the house is situated on the southeast side of 1st lake at the widest point. Very quiet and private with minimal boat traffic. We enjoyed fires outside several nights as well as sunsets throughout the week. We rented a ski boat at Rivets Marine in Old Forge and docked it out front without an issue. The people at Rivets are very nice and it is convenient. The water park in town is fun on a warm day and we also enjoyed the ride up McCauley Mt. where the view is very special. If you are into the nature aspects of the Adirondacks, take a trip up Rts. 28 and 30 to Tupper Lake (1.5 hours) where you will find the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks (The Wild Center). It is relatively new and quite well done. The ride there is fun as well. We thoroughly recommend this place and are going back in '10. Write us with questions. Our stay overall was great. The house is located on the first lake and is conveniently located close to Old Forge. The view of the lake from the house is wonderful. You will see deer daily and we even had one come through the yard one evening. Should you need to rent a boat I would recommend Rivetts Marine in Old Forge. The boats are in good shape and they are pleasant to deal with. The house is nicely decorated. The washer and dryer are very good front load models, the showers are nice and big and the beds are not bad. There is a nice big screen TV in the main room, a TV in the master bedroom and one in one other bedroom. There is also wireless internet available. Some great family games are there and we recommend playing Catch Phrase. When we arrived, the house was dusty in areas, the floors a bit dirty and several light bulbs out throughout the house. Tree branches also made it difficult to get on the deck of the boat house. We contacted the owner Jeff the next day and he was great. He wanted our stay to be wonderful so he had the caretaker Mark come and take care of everything while we were out boating. I would add that when Mark arrived we pointed out how the master bedroom did not have drapes on the glass doors that overlooked the lake and that the sunlight entered the room at 5:30 am and it would be nice if we had a way to shade the windows. Mark took care of that as well. We were very pleased. Jeff and Mark were great in this regard and that meant a great deal to us. A few items to note are parts of the house are still being renovated and construction materials are around the garage area. The basement does not have heating as of yet and there is pool table with no sticks. The master bedroom has no tub yet and a drawer set in the master bedroom would be nice. For us these were minor issues but things to prepare for should you stay there. Things you must do while staying there: 1. Hike Bald Mountain and Cascade Falls 2. Eat at Slickers in Old Forge and have the French Dip 3. Get some fudge from the Candy Store 4. Build a fire and roast hot dogs and marshmallows. We had great time and would definitely return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Our stay at this beautiful home was in January 2009. There was no expense spared in the building of this spectacular house. Even though it was under construction (one of the bathrooms was not completed and the basement was not finished), it didn't matter. We are a large family and there was plenty of room to not be underfoot. The view of the lake can been seen from any room in the house. The decor is perfect for the location, the home does not interfere with nature. It compliments it. Everything about this home inspires appreciation for the natural beauty surrounding it. This home comes highly recommended from a self-described snob =] Even in this rough economy, this place is a steal! Our vacation was geared toward the snowmobile community and the skiing/snowboarding at the local mountain. Both sports exceeded our expectations. The restaurants offered a large variety and the local stores carry everything under the sun. The people in the area are very friendly and willing to offer 'local secrets' of places to go things to see. Don't miss the movie theater - which is like a museum. This home is close enough, but away from it all. We truly enjoyed our stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
