Great place to unwind, this is a real treasure. Nice and clean with amazing views up the “mountain” very quiet, and thoughtful layout can’t wait to return- but will spend more time next time around :-) Everyone that we dealt with at this property were extremely nice and top notch!

You Won't Want To Leave

The best way to do the "road to Hana" is to take your time, go slow, and enjoy all that it has to offer. Knowing that you have a nice place to stay at the end of your journey makes the whole experience so much better. When we arrived, I was immediately impressed with the huge property and the incredible view from the deck. This had to be the best choice we could have made because this little house is the perfect spot to enjoy total privacy with all the comforts you need. We spent several days visiting different places around the area, and at the end of each day, it was so nice to come back and relax on the deck with a Mai Tai and watch the rain come in. At night, it is so quiet and the bed is so comfortable, you can't help but get a good nights sleep. There is only one problem... you won't want to leave!

Clean, Modern and Comfortable - An Excellent Value!

Mack's Shack is the nicest place to stay. It is an excellent value and the grounds are incredible. The inside is modern and updated, with extra comfortable furniture and amenities. The rainwater shower was divine, we marvelled over it. I stayed there with my boyfriend and our six month old baby and we spent 22 days on the island, in total. The owner, Karen, and her sister, Debby, are the nicest people, they are both easy to talk to and down to earth. When we decided to leave the area, because of a rare 'dengue suspicion' in East Maui, they gave us half our money back, so we could afford a place to stay on the drier side of the island. We weren't expecting it, and they didn't make a big deal about it. If we are staying in the Nahiku/Hana area again, we are definitely staying in Mack's Shack! It is perfect! Stay there and you won't regret it. (We also stayed in another place in the area and I'm telling you, this place is a true gem!) Also, visit the Nahiku rest stop. We got our coffee and treats there (try the lemon square and the coconut bread) and the dried coconut candy a few stalls down is addictive! I would like to note that dengue is not common in Maui. They had one outbreak in 2001 and then the suspicion in April 2001 (the CDC has not confirmed anything as of yet.) We took extra precaution because we had a little babe with us! But we want to go back so badly! It is paradise out there!

Hidden Gem!

Guest: Elizabeth (Boston, MA)
Date of Stay: 03/20/10 Review Submitted: 12/22/10

My sister and I stayed here in March of 2010 for 5 days while we hiked in and around Hana. The house is cozy, spotless and wonderful! The view of the ocean is breath taking. We picked lemons off the lemon tree in the front yard, lounged in chairs on the lanai and enjoyed the full stocked kitchen. The caretaker met us there and lovely. The all solar aspect was especially appealing and everything worked perfectly! I absolutely come back here (in fact I wanted to bring my boyfriend, but alas, Mack's Shack was all booked up!).

Absolutely Wonderful

This house is amazing!!!! Great location, off the beaten path, great views, and so much more. The house itself was clean, quaint and all around perfect. The porch was great to watch sunsets and sun rises and best of all -- the outdoor shower...loved it!!! Walking around on the property is very nice --- and you can fill a basket with guava and passion fruit.... It's a great place to stay.

Wonderful place!

I had such a wonderful time staying in this charming home! The view takes your breath away, every evening I would sit on the wrap-around porch and watch the sun set. Mountains were to my right and the ocean to my left. The best was watching the rain come in off the water. The home is beautifully decorated and comes with up to date amenities. The bed and sheets were especially comfortable. It’s a great spot to “get away from it all” but it’s still close enough to the town to experience the quaint shops and exotic beaches. I can’t wait for my next visit!

Honeymoon in Hana

Guest: MrsCates (Washington, D.C.)
Date of Stay: 10/07/08 Review Submitted: 06/02/10

My new husband and I were lucky enough to spend part of our Hawaiian honeymoon at Mack's. After renting a jeep and taking the scenic Road to Hana, we arrived at our beautifully appointed "Shack." Shack it is not, by the way -- Mack's is a cozy, romantic cottage with modern ammenities and stylish furnishings. It also boasts a view unlike any other, with jungle mountains behind the home and the bluest ocean below. At Mack's, we enjoyed watching the sun rise off the porch every morning, and we also enjoyed happy hour on the porch every afternoon. There are wild bananas and papayas growing in the yard, so be sure to pick a few and make an island cocktail (the kitchen does have a blender, I like to imagine it is just for this purpose!). During the afternoon rain shower, Mack's is a great place to watch for rainbows out over the water. Karen (booking agent) is the best, and Debbie (caretaker) is also wonderful. They both ensured that everything was in place for us to kick off a great trip. My husband and I both have wonderful memories of our time at Mack's Shack. If you are looking for a beautiful, comfortable spot to get away in Hana...stop looking now! You found it!
