It is a Main Street and Art Community and within minutes of the casinos and several golf courses to choose from. It’s a town of live oaks, magnolias, small shops, and art galleries and contrasts sharply with the condos and casinos to the west.
Visitors come for bird-watching, fishing, uncrowded family beaches, and to visit the internationally renowned Walter Anderson Museum of Art and Shearwater Pottery. Beaches, local favorite restaurants such as Aunt Jenny’s Catfish and McElroy’s on the Bayou, grocery, shops, and museums are less than a mile away, so this is a great town for bicycling and walking. Seasonal festivals and live music round out this great destination.
Ocean Springs is approximately 20 miles from Gulfport/Biloxi airport; New Orleans is an easy day trip and Florida is another easy day trip the other direction. You can arrange for a fishing charter or a private guide to take you out to nearby Horn and Ship islands, part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.
The Seashore wilderness area, museum, picnic areas, and boat launch are about two miles away. The Biloxi Bay Bridge with its pedestrian walkway/bicycle path is about a mile away, a perfect place for sunsets. Ten minutes away in Biloxi is the Vegas of the South with casinos such as Beau Rivage, Hard Rock, Isle of Capri, Harrah’s and Treasure Bay.
