Just wanted to thank James and Linda for a wonderful New Years experience in their cabin. The cabin was as described, clean, cozy and we thoroughly enjoyed the fireplace. The location was ideal for day trips to Helen, Waynesville, Maggie Valley, the Highlands and all the surrounding waterfalls. Thank you for a wonderful experience!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

I really loved the cabln in the mountain. We found so many places close by to eat, shop and do some sightseeing. It was easy to get up and down the mountain with the car. Will consider renting a cabin again next year.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We had visited the Black Bear log cabin 12 yrs ago and decided to return to Rabun Gap this year. In our search for a cabin we rediscovered the Black Bear. Rented for a week. Accommodations again were excellent. Did everything on our bucket list which was all close by. Will not wait 12 yrs to return. Thanks for everything!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Our family has been looking at this cabin for a couple of years as we meandered around Rabun Gap on our annual trips. It first drew our attention because of the absolute charm and how it seemed so picture perfect sitting back all nestled into the woods. When it went up for sale we decided we had to book a stay to see if the inside and the comfort matched the perfect outside of it. It definitely meets and exceeds all our expectations! It was very well equipped with the comforts of home and then some.By far the cleanest rental we have ever stepped foot in and very comfortable. There is no way a person on this earth couldn't be cozy and comfortable in this cabin, the outside firepit and grill area were just as pleasing and definitely a plus. The screened in porch was delightful to sit on and watch the wild life play and feed from the bountiful supply nature has available. So conveniently located to the numerous lakes, trails, shopping and parks that we think we might have found our new family retreat! The owners have obviously put a lot of thought and love into making Black Bear Lodge a home away from home for those of us Blessed enough to find it. Looking forward to a return visit as soon as we can get it in and I feel like it will be much sooner than we had planned. Make sure you visit Black Rock Mountain State Park at the top of the mountain and explore the many trails they have to offer. Or attend their weekly pot luck on Thursdays 7:PM at the camping area ranger station all are welcome. Bring a dish and enjoy the company of the locals and the visitors from all around. Tallulah Gorge is also a Blessed site to take in and has many trails to hike as well. We take a picnic and after visiting the Gorge head across 441 to the Day Beach area for a refreshing swim and lunch. Dillard House is a must, the kids ride horses while we sip a cold drink on their porch and then we partake in the best "family style" meal the area has to offer once the hungry horse riders return. Check out the whitwater rafting on the Chatooga River for a day of adventure or go chasing waterfalls with a picnic in the car. Directions to falls are of course located in the Cabin's informational binder. They really have thought of everything! Our newest venture was to the Smokies area of Cherokee and down the Tuckaseegee in a raft which was a lot of fun. No matter which direction you take you will find a day trip within miles of this fantastic cabin.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

This 71-year-old retired teacher found Black Bear Lodge a delightful respite from the mundane. It was cozy, clean, adequately furnished, and cutely decorated to reflect its name. It was also centrally located for side trips to other mountain resort cities in GA and NC, where friends and relatives live, and which faciltated my objective in spending a month there. It is on the same mountain with Black Rock State Park and the Foxfire Museum. When not "on the road," I thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of bird life, the playful chipmunks, and the gluttonous squirrels...not to mention 16 novels that I had been wanting to read. And on one return trip from Dahlonega, GA, a precious black bear cub tried to cross the road near the cabin. If you want delicious fresh vegetables and delightful homemade breads, skip the grocery store and load up at O'Sage Outdoor Market. They also have barbecue on the weekend. But don't miss a trip to Ingle's Market in Clayton. It's like a small town, complete with Starbucks, a bookstore, a bistro, and an extraordinary salad bar. They even have dry ice, which I needed for the trip home with a cooler full of Nantahala country ham and sausage! The highest praise I can give is that I would loved to have stayed longer, but certainly would return for another visit whenever possible. Since I left on June 17, I arrived in Florida in time to prepare for the protracted visit of Tropical Storm Debbie. You might guess correctly how I longed to instead be in Rabun Gap, GA.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

The cabin was a perfect get-a way. The weather in Florida has been so hot that a change was just the thing. The cool crisp days and nights were comfortable. The cabin was our base camp for hiking and seeing the local sites. We hope to visit again soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We stayed at the cabin the week of 9/17/11 thru 9/24. We enjoyed every minute of it. Even the rain was soothing at night and it usually cleared by the time we were ready to travel down the mountain. Our first afternoon we even saw a small black bear crossing the road on the mountain. Jim was just a phone call away to answer any questions we had. There were plenty of things to do and see. The Foxfire Museum was literally just down the road and a definite stop if you enjoy local history. The Dillard House and the Cupboard Cafe remain our favorite places to eat. We hope we can return soon, even if it's for a long weekend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

My husband and I just returned from our stay at the cabin. We had a wonderful weekend! Everything about the cabin was accurately advertised. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch and the charcoal grill. Our visit to the Osage Farmers Market was great! We picked up everything we needed for a nice dinner on Saturday evening that we enjoyed outside on the picnic table. We also loved our visit to Black Rock Mountain State Park. The views were incredible! We hope to return to the cabin the next time we need a quiet break from the city.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

My family had a wonderful stay here in July 2011. This quiet, secluded retreat was just far away from everything to be very peaceful, yet close enough to eating and shopping to be convenient. This is an outstanding cabin to relax, unwind, and recharge! I hope that we can make this place an annual getaway locations!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.
