Ocho Rios condo description
The perfect vacation retreat in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Walk in and be stunned by the view.
Apartment 102 is part of the Carib Condominiums, which consists of 4 two level apartment buildings located on Mahogany Beach in Ocho Rios, on Jamaica's North Coast on the crystal clear Caribbean Sea. Unit #102 is uniquely perched over a coral reef at the very end of the Carib's first unit ever built. Restaurants, nightlife, markets and shopping in downtown Ocho Rios are all a short 5 minute walk away. The Carib Condominiums has 24 hour security, with 4 guards stationed around the grounds at all times.
The condominium is a newly updated, fully furnished 1 bedroom suite with a king size bed, a living/dining area with a comfortable sofa, full bathroom, cable, TV/DVD, stereo, WiFi Internet, and a fully equipped kitchen. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and in the living room, and an A/C unit in the bedroom to ensure temperature controlled sleeping. The balcony that overlooks the Caribbean Sea provides beautiful views day or night.
Some housekeeping and all linens are included in the rental cost. The housekeeper can cook, run errands, and grocery shop for a separate cost which is to be arranged with her directly.
Transportation to and from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay can be easily arranged. A private driver - our dear friend Mr. Nelson - will pick you up for $80.00 (US), regale you with all kinds of local information, and deliver you directly to the condo.

If one is wanting to travel to a country to feel the heart of the country then this location is the place. My traveling companion and I wanted to be among the people of Jamaica not with other tourists and our wish was delivered. We had a small beach to swim everyday, we had a reef within distance to snorkel and we had locals at our fingertips to give us knowledge and tips for getting about. We were living among the peoples of Jamaica and never felt threatened at anytime. We walked into town and mingled with the people and we felt the heart beat of Jamaica. The Nelsons were great guides and even though we are in our mid 60's we felt like our mother was right there with us in Ms Mavis. We asked her to prepare a meal one night and it was amazing = traditional Jamaican. They took us on a road trip one day up to Murphys Hill we got to see the countryside (mountains) of Jamaica. LOVE JAMAICA and loved the Condo for its spaciousness, view and closeness to the water. The sunrises are magnificent from the balcony. Would do a repeat

We just returned from a 5 night stay at Ocho Rios condo by the sea. If you are going to Ocho Rios, it's a wonderful place to stay; it isn't going to be featured in Architectural Digest any time soon, but the bathroom has been refurbished, shower is great, king bed is new, and the view... well, the view is perfection. I loved the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks so much, I made a recording of it for my life in a landlocked state! The beach really is just steps away and the surf is calm and clean. There are restaurants within easy walking distance and there are some restaurants on the other side of town that will send a car out for free to pick you up, so a car is not needed. We opted for Mr. Nelson to pick us up at the airport and that worked out well. We picked up breakfast and lunch food at the market in town and spent a lot of time on the porch. The wifi, local phone and cable tv were very nice to have. Miss Mavis cooked us a wonderful meal which was more like 2 1/2 meals, so don't wait until your last night to have her do it. She and her husband and a wonderful couple and so helpful. It's all so much more than the minimum security prisons - ur, I mean the all-inclusive resorts can offer you! ;->

How Blue is YOUR Ocean?
How Blue is YOUR Ocean?
I arrived in Ocho Rios on Saturday afternoon after an hour and half ride from the airport. Upon arriving at the condo I picked up my key and entered the apartment. My initial impression was that it was a little dated but then I checked myself because I knew the condos were at least 30 years old. Once I turned left and looked outside my breath was taken away by the panoramic view of the blue Caribbean Sea! I dropped my suitcases and headed straight for the verandah. I stood at the railing and breathed, taking it all in. It was beautiful and I knew this view alone would provide all the physical, emotional and spiritual relaxation I needed. Back inside the ubnit was very clean and neat. Towels are provided but you may want to bring your own. You will need to bring beach towels. There is a small kitchenette, dining table, sofa and chairs, telephone for local calls or to receive overseas calls, bedroom with king bed and A/C, bathroom (shower only), closet, even a TV. Soon the housekeeper came by to welcome me. Very sweet lady who has worked with the family for many years. I also met her husband and they both took me to get groceries at the local supermarket. The beach is about a 2 minute walk from the condo. There is a small craft shop open at certain times and a bar which was not always open. I went swimming in the mornings and there was always a few people in the water. It was also Easter weekend and school vacation so local families were enjoying time at the beach as it is a public beach. Security was very good at the condos and the guards walk the property every half-hour 24/7. In the condo is a guest book that gives some good tidbits about the area. Come with an open mind; prepare to let your hair down; leave any "entitlement" ideas behind; Jamaicans are hospitable people but like anywhere there are some who will try to hustle you, just say "no thank you" and keep it moving. If you need transportation ask Mr. Nelson. If you are open to trying local food in Ochie ask the locals on the beach about local restaurants that they eat at. Nightclubs, sports bars, pub all close by. Lying on the verandah, the breeze from the sea was like a gentle caress on the skin. Like dining al fresco? Have meals outside at the stone table by the cliff. Great vacation. I'll be back.

Owner response: Thanks so much for your thoughts and experiences - glad you had the R&R that you needed! Best, Susannah
Believe everything written about this place - it is all true. Great location, easy walk to town for groceries and whatever else you might need, including selection of restaurants if that's what you'd like. Very comfortable bed, comfy sofa and chairs, convenient wi-fi, stocked kitchen (including George Foreman!). GREAT balcony. Spent 2 1/2 weeks here, desperately needed r&r and certainly got it. Snorkelled along the reef almost daily (and my husband sometimes 2 or 3 times a day). Walked into town when we needed stuff. Didn't need any other activity! Painted, read, sat still and gazed over the sea. Will get to White River tubing next time ...

For Miss Mavis...
For Miss Mavis...
Jamaica is best when Mavis shows you the way! If you're looking for a mellow, comfortable environment to decompress I can't think of a better place than the Carib Condos. Jamaica mon, everyting chris. The condo itself is wonderful and won't disappoint, but the real gem is Miss Mavis. While staying here, poised above the clear, stunningly blue water of the Caribbean, you will be lucky enough to have Miss Mavis take care of your needs. She's NOT a chambermaid! (even if she does keep the place spotless) Treat her like you would your Grandma, and you'll be rewarded many times over. Want to experience the local fresh market? Miss Mavis is a no-nonsense local guide of the first water. Need recommendations on just about anything Jamaican? Miss Mavis knows, or knows someone who does! Hungry? You are very much in luck. I LOVED her Goat Curry while my wife says go with whatever fish was caught that day. Give Miss Mavis free reign and she won't disappoint! In our memory, our two-week stay is one long, warm afternoon of sun and snorkeling followed by delicious meals. Treat the town as nothing more than a place to get supplies. The Carib is your home base. Mahogany beach (about 50ft away) your access to the water and Miss Mavis your connection to the real heart of the island. Just don't come over Christmas. That's our time. ;-> And if you believe, even a little bit, in karma you'll leave Miss Mavis a big tip. Make it hurt a little bit, I think you'll agree that Miss Mavis is worth every penny. And yes, we would consider going back. In fact, we're planning on it. WE LOVE YOU MAVIS! Matt and Kelly

Owner response: Thanks Matt for the thoughtful review. Indeed, Mavis is a wonderful soul. We even had a guest who wrote and framed the 'Ode to Mavis' which sits proudly in the condo. We're so glad you experienced the real Jamaica as we do when we visit. Come again soon!!! Best, Susannah

I stayed here for two weeks and found myself enjoying the beautiful views and relaxing island breeze daily. The staff of security, caretaking and housekeeping were accommodating and caring! The beach, just steps out the door is an experience in itself. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and got the real island feel of Jamaica staying here rather than at a "typical American" all inclusive luxury resort! I can not wait to return to this condo as it became like a second home to me, a home I miss dearly and think of fondly!
