Wonderful home in beautiful mountain setting. Tastefully appointed, with great interior, kitchen, and expansive views. My family had a relaxing and fun weekend, with a hike up the private waterfall trail and excursions to Arroyo Seco and the Rio Grande at John Dunn Bridge. We can't wait to return. And owner Jaime Baldonado is very accommodating, and an exception resource concerning the area and local activities. The hot tub is pretty nice too! Highly recommended.

Our family really enjoyed our week-long stay at Las Posadas El Salto. The home is off the beaten path a bit, which we preferred, yet it's close to the ski resort and a short drive into Taos. It's nestled among the pines near a quaint town of Arroyo Seco. Las Posadas is comfortable and homey with a touch of Southwest flair. There's beautiful art throughout the house which adds to the home's appeal. We loved the upper level master retreat and slept like a dream every night. We also enjoyed viewing the millions of stars from the hot tub every night. Thanks for sharing your home with our family of 7!

We've stayed in around ten VRBO rentals, each of which we thoroughly enjoyed, but Las Posadas El Salto is special. The house (including the kitchen) is really well equipped. The furniture and art are excellent. The area around the house is wild; several impressive hikes start close by. In general we found the Taos region to be as compelling--scenic, culturally rich, but low-key--as its reputation would suggest. Jamie was great to work with. Highly recommended.

We arrived on a Sunday evening, driving from Arroyo Seco from Aubrey TX. It took us about 11-12 hours with a few stops for food and potty breaks along the way. We received updates from Jaime regarding road conditions, information about best grocery stores/ restaurants, site seeing, etc. We spend first day at cabin/house, relaxing, and even took a stroll around property. It is such a beautiful area, you are up close and personal with nature, at it's best! The house has a wonderful balcony, hot tub, modern design with lots of cool art work, fully stocked, and plenty of room! DAy two, we took kids to ski school, and my husband and I had whole day to ourselves to ski at Toas ski valley. It was great for us. However, it was spring break, and it was a bit over crowded on the mountain and at ski school. Our kids did not get alot of one on one time, didnt get to learn how to get on off lift, or how to wedge. That was a little disappointing, but knowing our kids (age 9 and 3), we were just happy they made it through the whole day. :) Our second day of skiing (we took two days off in between) we decided to just work with boys our self, instead of paying for another round of ski school. Other days we enjoyed ice skating, walking around town, seeing rio grand gorge bridge )-- spectacular!!, attempting to see water fall near property-- we didnt make it too far with kiddos. We also went tubing one afternoon at toas ski valley. We literally did something different each day, and enjoyed every minute! We would love to come back with boys are a little older, perhaps in summer time to go hiking, rafting, or take another stab at teaching them to ski in the future. Toas is so much closer to north Texas than Colorado skiing, and it was just as fun! Also, we had some friends stay in toas same week as us, they were in hotel in main part of town. They didnt seem to enjoy their stay as much as we did. When we come back, we will def book at Los Posadas again! Thanks Jamie!

Nestled in the woods on a private road is the ideal get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It can be enjoyed by all age groups. Our group ranged from 25 to 88 years old. Las Posadas El Satto provides a comfortable yet fun home for all to enjoy. Large windows provide beautiful views of the mountains and forest surrounding this property. The kitchen is well equiped with everything imaginable along with all the other modern convieniences that make this cozy custom built home perfect for a relaxing retreat. The hot tub is located off the deck in a quite, secinic, yet secluded area that makes for a private relaxing getaway especially after a day of skiing. For those who can't quite pull themselves away from work this home provides a large desk upstairs that is equipped with a computer, printer and a large area to work. Wireless internet can be accessed throughout the home. .We loved and enjoyed everything about this uniqueally decorated comfortable home. We enjoyed getting to know Jamie, the owner/manager. He is very helpful and available to answer questions or do whatever is necessary to make the stay very pleasant. We will be back and hopefully soon.

Four of us (two couples) came up from Austin to getaway and enjoy the mountains for a few days. We knew from the pictures on VRBO that this was going to be a nice place... But the pictures didn't do it justice! We were amazed as we pulled up the very private snow covered driveway. As we entered the unit my girlfriend's jaw dropped at how nice the house was. Everything from the furniture to the artwork is top notch and its very spacious. The location is great for skiing at Taos. Jamie was a great host and this an amazing value. This was my first time using Homeaway and I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. I hope we make it back, thanks Baldonado!

Second time staying at this property. Owner is knowledgeable and friendly. Love the kitchen, great center focus of the house and easy to cook and bake meals all week. Living Room fireplace keeps the house nice and toasty in the winter and the hot tub is excellent after a long day skiing the steeps of Taos. Will be back again!

My wife and I booked a last minute getaway as we had a four day weekend on up for us from our busy 80+ hour weeks. We needed a getaway and I had always promised to take her to see REAL snow before our first child, which she is due in June. I contacted the owners which were very shocked and accomodative that I needed the rental for the next day. The directions and tips about driving were spot on. They told me upfront that there was some snow, but not much new snow and couldn't promise new snowfall. Therefore, we decided to give it a shot! What snow was there when we arrived was perfect compared to what we see in Dallas, TX. We drove up to the cabin was set at a perfect temperature when we arrived. Then by the time we woke up snow was falling which slowly fell our entire trip! Not sure how the owners pulled it off, but it was AMAZING to see my 30 yr old wife make her first real snow angel! Thank you for that! ;) The home is nestled in large trees near Arroyo Seco with an Amazing view away from the mountain as well as up the mountains! Which the photos and videos are great and no disrespect, but they do not due this home justice. It is so well maintained, maintains heat extremely well and feels more like a dream home than a weekend getaway for us. We explored the woods/mountain which we spotted 2 fox and a few rabbits. It was neat to watch them in the snow. My wife's favorite part was sitting in this very unique chair which she positioned between the fireplace and a large exterior window while she caught up on her reading while the snow feel outside. Pure serenity for her. Overall we were amazed at the level of hospitality of the owners, the ability to contact the owners as needed and all the amenities were amazing. We will be trying this home out during the summer as well. Thank you again for everything. J and A from Forney, TX

I visited with my wife and 2 young daughters for a winter mountain getaway. It was our first time visiting Taos. The house was and grounds were better than expected and perfectly situated between Taos Ski Valley and downtown. The views from the house are spectacular. The layout was great for family dining and cozying up by the wood stove after a long day at the mountain. The owner is very knowledgeable and if you want to experience Taos like a local, he's your go to guy. We'll definitely be back.

Las Posadas El Salto was the perfect getaway for my family. It is in an amazing location and the house is lovely. Our three year old also had a fabulous time. In anticipation of cooking a Thankgiving dinner we brought lots of kitchen tools but ended up not needing anything - the kitchen was stocked better than my kitchen at home - lots of utensils, pots, pans and beautiful serving trays and bowls. I highly recommend Las Posadas El Salto! We'll definitely be going back again!

An early fall trip to this home is perfect. The setting in the trees and near many hikes is great, and you can be in Taos in a few minutes. Or you just sit on the deck and enjoy the breezes. Jamie shares loads of local info. The house is complete in every way. The only thing you might want to remember to pack is a big fluffy robe to run to/from the hot tub if you don't want to rely on the large towels supplied for you!

Each year in the fall my husband and I return to Las Posadas El Salto to enjoy the beauty of the aspens changing color, the cottonwoods turning gold, the wonderful smell of roated green chile and to recharge our tired souls. We are never disappointed with the charming owner's hospitality, ambience, wonderful and inviting home (with all of the amenities and then some!) and of course the natural beauty of El Salto and Taos. It was a perfect stay, thank you Jamie! We will be back! Kathleen Kirby

We have stayed in a lot of rentals, and I have to say Las Posadas El Salto has been the best. Jamie was very helpful, and the house and kitchen especially were well stocked. He has thought of a lot of little things that made our stay extremely enjoyable. And the views are amazing! Incredibly peaceful, quiet and comfortable. He even guided us to a private trail, and hiked up a beautiful canyon as far into the wild as we cared to go, and saw a black bear. All in all, it was an amazing stay. It just doesn't get any better than this!

Las Posadas El Salto offered my family the perfect opportunity to escape for the holiday weekend. We made the late decision to head to Taos for the weekend and were able to work with Jamie, the owner, to secure the property within several several hours of first contact. Jamie knowledge of the local area allowed us to effectively plan activities surrounding the whole weekend. Hiking and fishing opportunities abound and Jamie will be more than happy to help you decide what to do. The House itself was extremely clean and well appointed. We ate in every night, cooking in the kitchen was easy, which often times is the perfect solution for travelers with small children, it additionally allowed us to keep the overall cost very reasonable. Jamie also allowed us to bring our dogs along to stay, as long as we followed a couple very logical rules. I'm pretty sure they had the best time of anyone on the trip. Things to keep in mind. Taos proper is about a 20 min drive depending on traffic, perfect for myself, but may seem a bit longer if you drive into town for every meal. You are in the midst of a national forest, so wildlife is at your back door; awesome as far as I'm concerned, but your opinion may differ. The house sits at 8000+ feet, if your coming from sea level expect to notice the alt. Don't use that as an excuse not to get out and see the natural wonders that the area has to offer; you'll only be disappointed in yourself. All in all I would highly recommend staying at Las Posadas El Salto, and will be coming back very soon.

Owner response: With 15 + years of guiding people in Northern New Mexico with so many different activities and sports. I still love showing guests and friends the many secrets and special spots, be it the World Series of Fly fishing in the Fall or steep hidden north facing chutes in West Basin at Taos Ski Valley still choked with deep cold beautiful powder weeks after a big storm. I would expect the same if I was in your special part of the world you call paradise. I promise I wont tell a soul though. (joke) Yes, definitely we are tucked away about a thousand feet higher than town of Taos in the forest, but still have incredible 360 degree views. Strangely enough, we are warmer in the winter due to what is called a Temperature Inversion layer. In winter the frigid cold air from the 13,000 ft peaks around Taos sinks down through the valleys and rests in town of Taos, while the warmer air rises above and keeps it down there. This is why Albuquerque and Santa Fe have what is called no burn nights in Winter with wood stoves. Also its another reason not to rent or buy land in cold and sunshaded valleys near tall mountains. Inversely, Las Posadas El Salto is 10 to15 degrees cooler than the town of Taos in the Summer. That translates into a 90 + degree day in town at 7,000 ft and about a high of 75 to 80 at the property. Thats really a big deal when the USA just recorded its hottest year ever in 2012. As we have mentioned in the past it takes anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes depending on weather and town traffic to get to the south side of town. We live in a valley thats almost 30 miles across. Thats why we use Blueberry Hill road as our bypass to get around the plaza traffic. Mostly we do a big shop in town and then if we want to eat out, we eat at the wonderful restaurant selection from Hwy 150 North through Arroyo Seco and on up into the Taos Ski valley. Safe Travels everyone! Jamie B. & Jenna Allen

My family and I had a great time at this secluded forest location in Arroyo Seco - near Taos, NM. I love Taos, and have gone there many times in the last ten years to visit friends and record music, but I'd never convinced my family to come there. For our reunion, my partner and our two boys (10 and 6) were joined by my wife's parents, and my mother, and we all had independent space at this property, as well as a large communal area in which to gather. During our stay, we enjoyed the Taos Pueblo (on the UN historical sites listing), the shops and restaurants of Taos, alpine hiking at the Ski Valley, and a day driving trip to the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railway (a real high point). Some of us went to the rift valley, and we enjoyed the Kit Carson Museum. There is also great hiking nearby the cabin itself. Jamie B., the host, was great. He offered us a keyboard and amp to use during our stay so that I could accompany my boys in their music practice, and he was very helpful, communicative, and available for questions. Would we stay there again? Yes. Was the property lovely and even better than indicated by the promo material? Yes. Thanks, Jamie.

My husband and I were looking for somewhere to escape the heat, a place where we could be alone together, and a change in scenery. We found the perfect spot at Las Posadas. This immaculate and well-appointed house is big enough for several people and is also a perfect retreat for two. Answers to every question were posted exactly where we looked for them. The accommodations are top-notch - from the wonderful and well-stocked kitchen to the cozy and restful sleeping quarters. We took advantage of both decks, having breakfast outside on one deck and star-gazing each night from the other. Jamie is a friendly, helpful, and well-skilled host. He recommended a couple of hikes, and we took both of them. The canoncita hike was just our style - gradual inclines and shaded pathways. For late July, the temperatures were delightful to us. The very best part of our stay was when we stepped out onto the upper deck the first night. The deep black sky strewn with billions of twinkling stars absolutely took our breath away. It was how we ended each day. We hope to return and bring our entire family. This was our first experience with a VRBO rental, and we were pleased with the entire transaction.

Owner response: Greetings Fellow travelers, As we write this note to all of our future guests and of course the guests and friends that have stayed with us. The number one topic of concern and conversation of the guests in 2012 is the unrelenting heat in the Midwest and elsewhere in the country and how to find a nearby getaway away from it. We at Las Posadas El Salto feel personally all of the stories and struggles associated with the unbelievable temperatures and unprecedented drought across the country. We feel that we are all in this together, as we also have seen some dry years in the last decade occasionally. We also feel blessed to be able to offer our retreat to your friends and family, just above the town of Taos in the cool tall pines of El Salto, on the way to a legendary ski area known as Taos ski Valley. As locals here, we know this is the best of Taos in many different ways. We do our best to portray that in our photos and video tour of the house and property, but that is always a work in progress to show future guests all the visuals of Las Posadas El Salto and the surrounding forest. Its what we call natures tough act to follow. Safe Travels Everyone!

Our stay at Las Posadas was from July 6th - July 13th, 2012, and we had a fantastic time. Jamie had provided excellent directions to the house, and when we arrived, everything looked as it had in the photos. The property was somewhat isolated, which was exactly what we look for in a vacation home, and clean upon arrival, My wife was somewhat concerned about the lack of air conditioning (we are from Dallas), but the weather was fantastic - beautiful days, maybe a shower in the afternoon, and cool nights. Our family loved the river rafting suggested by Jamie, and we also went on a number of hikes -one was very close to the house and very scenic. All in all,we had a gerat time and definitely would love to come back!

This property is amazing! Not only is it isolated with no noise from neighbors, but each of the bedrooms are peaceful with no noise from the rest of the house. The kitchen is thoughtfully stocked with quality cookware and many of the spices, oil an condiments you might need. The beds are all extremely comfy with very nice linens. The washer/dryer was nice to have for the light packers. The upper deck off the master was perfect for morning coffee an we spent a lot of time on the lower deck. I can't think of anything negative to say. Everyone in our party had full reception on our cellphones with 3G. The house has wifi as well. Don't hesitate to book this one.

Our June stay at this property was relaxing and very pleasant. The house is tucked away on a private lane that was isolated from other residents and provided a great view. There was plenty of space for everyone, and Jamie was a very accommodating host. He directed us to local hikes very near the property that we really enjoyed-especially one to the towering cliffs of El Salto- truly spectacular! It was very hot (record breaking hot) during our stay, and the house struggled a bit to stay cool, but Jamie provided fans that were quite effective. The only negative I would mention is that the 20-25 minute trip back and forth to Taos was a bit of a barrier to shopping and dining.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Yes indeed. June 2012 went down in the weather history books as the hottest month ever in the U.S.A. It has cooled off alot now (July) and is back to the normal Summer highs of about 80 to overnight lows in the 50's with beautiful monsoon thunderstorms. I dont think there is better place to hang out at this time of the year than at Las Posadas El Saltos 8,300ft elevation. Its the best respite from the the Texas, OK ,AZ intense heat. The town of Taos Is a very popular tourist destination, much like Santa Fe is. The traffic into town can get congested a bit. It normally is about 15 minutes to the Taos plaza from Las Posadas El Salto. There are also many back roads to town that we locals use during busy days like the Taos Pow Wow in July. All they have to do is inquire and we will try to steer them around the busier sections of town. All The more reason to go for a big food shop and just relax at the property for several days

My husband and I had an amazing 10 day anniversary vacation of hiking, exploring, relaxing and enjoying beautiful northern New Mexico. Las Posadas El Salto home was a perfect secluded mountain top escape for us to be our "home away from home" during this time. While secluded, it's a quick drive to Arroyo Seco, Taos and all the places we wanted to get to mountain hiking or for a nice dinner or an afternoon Espresso. Jamie was amazing to work with from the beginning, was always available for questions, provided info hiking trails, tips on where to eat and even what to order. The home's upper bedroom was sooo comfortable with its own deck and place to watch the sunsets. We would come back from a day of hiking, listen to music with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down from there. Just beautiful. The whole house has loads of windows. Being early June, we kept the windows open at night to enjoy the mountain cross-breezes blowing through for a perfect relaxing restful sleep. There are two decks to choose where you want to lounge around on. Jamie tries to think of EVERYTHING you might need. From things to cook with, spices, plenty of towels, icepack (for my husband's back!), coats, maps to hiking trails and shops. He even helped us get our boarding passes printed before we left. At the time we were there, New Mexico had a few issues with moths around the city, so we became the resident "moth hunters" that seemed to sneak into the house, which was a bit annoying. I don't think Jamie could have prevented that. The furniture is comfortable, durable and planned for all seasons, including the ski-season, so we understood it was not going to be brand new. Everything was very clean, well-cared for and ready for us when we arrived, including linens, showers, dishes, glassware, pots and pans. We had an AMAZING time! A PLUS+

Owner response: We are delighted to hear that your stay at Las Posadas El Salto was relaxing, rejuvenating and alot of fun. We enjoy offering our beautiful vacation rental house with a great host who wants his guests to have all the local knowledge they need to make a super getaway. We are also so glad that you took in the magic of the house and area of El Salto. We think its the best Taos has to offer for so many reasons. We know our fellow travellers have alot of choices in and around Taos NM. We believe all they need to do is watch our beautifully shot video tour of the house and its private forested surroundings and read our reviews from past guests and they can picture themselves in one of the best family getaways in Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall in Northern NM. We hear over and over again that when guests arrive and relax at the house that they feel the weight of hectic life schedules and stress and demands lifted. This is one of the most peaceful and quiet settings in Taos. Most properties here have the noise of some road/highway or other city type sounds. At Las Posadas El Salto all you hear is the wind singing through the tall pines and snow falling on cedars in winter. As far as the Pine moths go. They are part of the natural forest life cycle here in the Rockies as well as most of the interior west. After snowy wet winters their hatch can be quite prolific as was the case this June. It lasts about 1 to 2 weeks, so thats why we keep the doors closed at night as much as possible during the hatch as they love seeking out the outdoor lights. They are completely harmless unlike mosquitos which we dont have at this elevation of 8300 feet. Happy vacationing everyone and thank you guests for all the good times and great memories. We very much appreciate your choice of staying at Las Posadas El Salto. All the best, The Las Posadas El Salto Team

Our "tribe", had a fabulous time at Las Posadas El Salto! An exceptionally spacious art filled retreat for two for two days…freshly brewed morning coffee, crisp mountain air, bright sunshine, New Mexico blue skies, and stunning vast views from out on the two huge decks… and in the evenings a fire in the wood stove for the cozy den and home cooking in a graciously open and very well equipped kitchen… so nice. Then Las Posadas morphed into a perfectly vertically zoned three suite "tribal" reunion site for eight of us for the next three days which included GREAT "in the neighborhood" waterfall and canyon hikes, kayaking the Rio Grande, muchos chill time, and yummy local food at The Taos Cow (mmmm homemade ice cream AND five star breakfast burritos at the same place! purrfect!), Orlando's (SUPER nachos, burritos, and enchiladas… soooo quintessentially Northern New Mexican!), and OMG… El Meze (the menu is like a roulette wheel for ecstacy! LOVED the gourmet tamalé! in fact everyone loved everything served there). All smiles all around! The reunion weekend was followed by four days of extreme relaxation and quietude for four of us to deepen friendships and open our hearts to nature. We had a wonderful experience in this very clean and light filled home that had EVERYTHING we needed. What made our stay more than perfect was the exuberantly fun and heartful care provided by the property's manager, Jamie. Jamie "localized" and "personalized" with a flourish … lots of local knowledge, terrifically hilarious stories, and he even shared the "Yoda-like" affections of his sweet ole' black Labrador Retriever "Lucia". So for 2, 4, 6, or 8 Las Posadas was ideal. The whole "tribe" says thanks Jamie and sends you warm blessings! You ROCK! See you again next year!

We really enjoyed our stay at Las Posadas El Salto. Jamie was a wonderful host, and has thought of everything to make the house a home. We stayed 5 nights, and loved that there was a lot of hiking we could walk to from the house. The main house has 2 bedrooms, one being a large master suite, and just FYI the basement has an apartment with a separate entrance. It is equally nice, but just something to think about if you have younger children, they aren't exactly in the same house with you. The set up was perfect for us, however, because we had grandparents with us. The main house has a computer with internet connection, and several TV's, and even an XBOX with lots of games. The kitchen is very well stocked, with a gas range and perfect for cooking for a group. There's lots of privacy, and woods behind the house that we enjoyed exploring. Very quiet and peaceful, with a million stars each night. I think Arroyo Seco is a great location if you know you want to explore the area, it's in between Taos and Taos Ski Valley. Thanks Jamie for everything

Our party of five ladies had a lovely trip to Arroyo Seco for some spring training and were wowed by our accommodations at Jamie's house. We visit Taos once a year and this was the best place yet! The house has a wonderful layout, unique and personal artwork, great atmosphere, awesome hot tub, and a very considerate landlord who checks all the details. Love the bathrooms with claw foot tubs and views out to the mountains. Private Cougar Den downstairs. For those that couldn't ski, we found great hiking along scenic creeks and up to waterfalls and cool rock features right from the house. Excited that we may have seen a rare honey badger in the woods. A satiating experience for all, will definitely return.

This was a fantastic place to stay if you are interested in getting away from the chaos of everyday life! It was in the mountains, and very private. It was within close proximity to the town of Taos and the ski valley. It was clean, well maintained, and well stocked. The owner provided phenomenal customer support, and was available to help with anything if needed. We would highly recommend this property. It was very spacious and roomy. We enjoyed skiing, a pottery/raku workshop at Wannamaker pottery, lots of hikes just off the property, and shopping in Taos. We enjoyed DaraThai, The Gorge bar and grill, and Antonio's (right off the plaza). We ate twice at Pizano's, but had some difficulty with service there. The pizza is fantastic, but the veggie lasagna is not. They have an awesome chipotle lime salad dressing!! We took a day trip to Santa Fe, but that was not long enough to spend there. The O'keefe museum was good, but expensive for the size. The Puye cliffs were incredible to see, but the price of admission was ridiculous ($20 pp).

Had a wonderful time at Jamie's place. Kitchen stove worked great, no high altitude problems. Loved the flexibility of the kitchen (able to see the LR and DR) and the fireplace stove was wonderful on cold nights. Hot tub was really nice and very clean. Rooms were spacious and bathrooms great. Even the kids (3 & 5) loved the place. Would definitely stay here again. Laundry facilities were definitely a plus. Next time we won't bring so many clothes! Lots of stairs though. Up to the second floor and up from the parking area. Got quite a workout! Recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle, as road is "bumpy." Arroyo Seco is a great little town and the Taos Cow had great breakfast burrito's! See you in 2013! Black Lab was very friendly!

    10. The Stove Rocks! Even my rice cooked at high altitude came out beautifully. 9. Kitchen is well stocked with spices, utensils and cook ware. If you plan on cooking for your family, this is the place to be. 8. Lucy the Lab…a wonderful, warm greeter. 7. Sledding down the drive is a blast. 6. Claw Foot Tubs – A relaxing way to enjoy your bath. 5. The master suite is huge, with plenty of room to unpack and enjoy your time in the cabin. 4. The HOT TUB. OMG, what a treat after a day on the mountain. Bring Slide-On Shoes for the short trip up the stairs afterward. 3. The Sunset Deck – A gorgeous surprise, and a nice way to enjoy a glass of wine. 2. Beautiful, charming cabin in a secluded setting. 1. The Hospitality – Jamie was a wonderful host. He was very gracious about answering all of my questions before and during our trip. The day we arrived, he sent an e-mail with lots of wonderful suggestions for the area, which was very appreciated. When I needed a recommendation for a restaurant, he was quick to respond. When the power went off briefly, he texted right away to ensure we knew where to find flashlights, etc. Jamie was very accommodating with all of our requests, and helped us feel right at home. We really enjoyed our time in Arroyo Seco, and this was in large part due to Jamie’s friendly, helpful nature.

I highly recommend staying at this house. It was perfect for myself and family. We had 5 adults and 1 toddler (2yrs of age). The description offered is very accurate for this location. The photos are also accutate and we were only surprised at how much better it looked in person. The property was well maintained. We only saw the owner 1 time but he was more than helpful with tips. He checked up on us on our way there and during our stay, even afterwards. For the most part we were left alone to enjoy the wonderful house. The floor heating was fabulous. The view and all of the windows in the house was fantastic. We could see the snow falling anywhere you were in the house. I would highly recommend this house to any friend or relative. I would recommed sight seeing in Arroyo Seco, Taos, Taos Ski Valley, visitng the Pueblos. This was out first Thanksgiving vacationing somewhere. We cooked out Thanksgiving dinner and we stayed for 7 days! It was an absolutely wonderful experience. Thank you so very much for the memories! The only downside was the thin dry air but the owner cannot control the climate :) Other than that, it was perfect!

My husband and I spent four wonderful October days at Las Posadas and are looking forward to going back for a longer visit. Jamie has built (literally) a house that is a warm, welcoming home--and shares it most generously. Every light-filled room is lovely, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the kitchen has everything a cook could need. The setting is beautiful, with one of the most beautiful hikes we've ever taken just up the road. We loved our evenings in the hot tub, and the vistas from the decks are spectacular.

Jamie, we really enjoyed our week at the house, even if we managed to hit a sort of lousy patch of weather. The setting in the woods was very relaxing, and there was hardly any sense of there being nearby residences. Still, we were close enough to Taos to get in for groceries and other necessities, such as pizza. When the weather moderated, we enjoyed the decks, including watching a spectacular lightning storm combined with a sunset one night. We also enjoyed the hot tub on three evenings after returning from a long day of hiking. We took advantage of the well-equipped kitchen and the grill a lot (just the one venture for pizza, otherwise all breakfasts and dinners on the premises). Everything worked just great, which is not always the case for VRBO properties. Might suggest moving the microwave to a lower location, as the height-challenged (e.g., my wife) couldn't reach it. Location worked great for our hiking expeditions into the national forests and also the BLM areas along the Rio Grande. We noted you have a full electronic setup, with flat screen TVs and all, and assume it all worked well, but we never used it, as we tended to use evenings to just read and work together on crossword puzzles, etc.

Our stay at Las Posadas El Salto couldn't have been better or come at a better time. We were seeking a reprieve from the summer heat and found paradise in the pines. We have been to Taos a number of time but this was the first visit that we opted to stay a little outside of town. We were rewarded with the sense of being away from the crowd, but close enough to restaurants and Arroyo Seco. The house was open and spacious with a very well equipped kitchen. The lower level deck was great for dinning and hanging out, but the upstairs deck, off the master bedroom, was even better, providing incredible views of the valley below and of course those fantastic New Mexico sunsets. Jamie was an excellent host and took time to help us with fishing, rafting, horseback riding and just about everything we needed during our visit (plus he allows guests to use his CD collection). We will be back....

We were fortunate to stay at Las Posadas El Salto in July, 2011 with our two sons and one of their friends. Our purpose was to tour around in the scenic mountains and white water raft the Rio Grande. This being our first trip to Taos - we were very much impressed with the beauty of the town and the surroundings. And our house was wonderful. This home sits up in the mountains in a small community north of Taos and you feel at home the minute you walk in the house. There are breathtaking sunsets/sunrises visible from the upper balcony. The outdoor spa was very enjoyable after a busy day rafting. The downstairs living area open concept makes it very easy for the whole family to have plenty of room to relax. And Jamie is an excellent host and readily available for anything you need. We plan to reserve "our" house during our next visit to Taos!

Our stay at Las Posadas El Salto: It was magical! We planned to escape to this beautiful home after an epic camping trip that covered Jemez Springs and on Northward to the San Juan Wilderness in Colorado. We joined up with my mother-in-law after our mountain adventure back in Arroyo Secco and brought our 3 small pups along with us. The house is in a perfect place. Up a quiet dirt road Nestled in tall pines with a beautiful view and cool mountain breezes. Close enough to town, but secluded enough to never leave if you so choose. What a perfect way to finish up our epic trip. It is perfect for the adventure bound traveler as well as those looking for a quiet beautifully appointed escape. We were truly comfortable and relaxed instantly. The accommodations are perfect and all of the little touches amazing. Cooking was a joy in the huge kichen, and eating was heaven sitting out on one of two expansive decks. The place is so big it could truly fit a larger family gathering very comfortably, but also intimate and cozy enough for the three of us and the pups. There was nothing we had to ask for-- everything we could ever need was right there. We will absolutely be staying with Jamie again, he was a fantastic host. For many years to come! Thank you Jamie!

i have been to taos several times over the years and this property was the best I have stayed in. This trip to taos was for a wedding at the Taos Country Club, where we used the house as a bachelor hangout before my buddy's big day. The first thing I check when I arrive to a VRBO unit is the pantry. It always is nice to know what spices and condiments you need to buy before you go grocery shopping, and this pantry was packed full of great cooking spices, even spanish saffron. the grill was very nice and convenient. the interior was very spacious with huge vaulted ceilings covered with knotty pine. I love that look. bedrooms were extremely spacious as well. bathrooms were stocked with towels and amenities. loved the deck which was great for entertaining. would have appreciated one of those great new mexican outdoor fireplaces though since it gets cold in the evenings. it would have extended our enjoyment of the deck into the wee hours. The property is someplace you have to consider when coming to taos. I personally don't like staying in town. The dust devils and the lack of foliage is depressing for me coming from west virginia. The pine forest at las posadas was ideal. it creates the atmosphere of getting away from it all and it was quiet, cool, and private. last but not least, the owner jamie. the entire trip i never got to meet him. i had owed him half the balance of my bill, and he never came once to spoil our time, bust our chops and collect. he was accommodating over the phone and through texting about every amenity available. he even left several of his personal guitars for us to play while we stayed there. as beautiful as the house was, the best part might have been the graciousness and hospitality of the owner who was never even there. I think that speaks volumes. Thanks, Jamie

We just returned from a wonderful family vacation at this treasure of a vacation home. Our family of five has three skiing sons, ages 12, 16 and 19. We wanted to ski Taos during spring break and relax. Our college-aged son brought a friend from school with him, so we wanted a house with enough space that everyone could be comfortable. We chose this location due to the beautiful photos and previous reviews, and we were not disappointed. We wished we could buy the place! The house was immaculate. The "apartment" perfect for the college guys. The house comfortable and inviting, with interesting artwork, and everything one could ask for in terms of creature comforts, while still being rustic. The views were gorgeous. The kitchen had everything a family of avid cooks could ask for. The hot tub was wonderful. The owner was not only a complete gentleman, he was unobtrusive, yet kind and friendly, and as an experienced expert skier and outdoorsman he had a wealth of knowledge to share with us about the area, both slopeside at Taos and off-mountain. A binder for guests contained many suggested activities, from hiking, horseback riding and skiing to fly-fishing. As we planned to ski most days, it had been a toss-up for us whether to stay at Taos Ski Valley or the 20-25 minutes away in this charming home. We are sure we made the right decision! The local eateries were great, and we could also get to the town of Taos for dinner in just a few minutes (Orlando's we liked a lot for classic New Mexican fare), with beautiful views in every direction during the drive. We shopped for food mostly at Cid's in town, which carries the natural products we prefer (great sausages) as well as the more mainstream Smiths. The property had a nice gas grill, so we did a lot of cooking out. We heartily recommend this lovely home, but hope that those who take advantage of it will treat this custom-crafted residence with the loving care it deserves, so that when we return, it will still be in the wonderful condition that we enjoyed during our stay. We will be back!

The listing perfectly describes the property, though I was mistaken in interpreting the pictures. The apartment has its own entry, and you have to to outside to enter it from the house. All the pictures were right on, it was beautifully clean and very well supplied with everything one might need for cooking, even a number of condiments! When we needed help, the owner was over within the hour. I would definitely recommend this to families, particularly those with teens who could take over the downstairs apartment! And the skiing was GREAT!

We were fortunate enough to stay at this propoerty for an annual "guys ski trip". The house was the perfect spot, location-wise, and it had everything we could want in a vacation rental. We skied all day, sat in the hot tub each afternoon and went into town, either El Saito, or Taos each night for dinner. The owner was steadily checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. It was terrific. I only wish he could have delivered a bit more fresh snow on the mountain. I would gladly come back and stay here again on a subsequent trip to the Taos area. Thanks for a great New Mexico experience.

This past January we had the privilege of spending my birthday at this dream home. Yes, home. From, the moment you step foot into the comfortable and spacious living area the home greets you with a warm embrace. The wood stove was the perfect accomplice to the beautiful snow flurries that danced through the night. Even more exciting than the house itself is the HOT TUB!! Oh this hot tub, it was intoxicating, hard to pull myself away, as the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders, enjoying a glass of wine, snow cascading over the Taos mountains, I certainly realized I found my heaven. Posadas El Salto is a sanctuary to any soul, I cannot wait to share more memories with this wonderful home, I feel as if we have created a wonderful friendship.

I loved the local bar and restaurant scene near the Arroyo Seco crossroads. The house is a gem and I loved the open layout which was so great for cooking, music, dancing - we had a great time. Clean and well maintained yes. I would recommend this property for up to three couples on a ski trip or a fishing trip or just a week away from it all. I loved walking among the pines, and did I mention the views from the deck of the land as it falls away to the valley floor? Mystical, musical, mountainous, marvelous!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
