I lived in the house in SF for 11 years, with my 2 young sons. Now I live approximately 20 miles north of San Francisco in Novato, CA. I am a professor at Dominican University of CA in San Rafael.
I love living in the San Francisco Bay area where there is always something fun and exciting going on from museums to theater, art, restaurants and nightclubs. The Sunset District provides easy access to major attractions and a quiet retreat at the end of the day.

The house was great. It was clean and had more household items than most houses I stay in. I do have 1 item that I would like to point out. I loved the secure and private driveway, BUT it's very hard to find in the dark. We arrived very late in the evening and had a hard time with the alley. Our car scraped bottom because of the pot holes. After the first time we knew what to expect and it was fine. I would stay in the house again.
Owner response:Dear Mary: Thank you for your response. Following your experience I plan to recommend that people enter the home from the front steps when they arrive late at night. I have a series of sensor lights in the driveway and do maintain them so that as people enter the driveway the spotlights turn on. This is in an effort to provide light at the entrance to the garage. I will look into making sure that the sensor lights are working and that people receive proper notification of the low light, late at night, as they enter the driveway. The entrance to the garage, on the West side of the house, towards the Pacific Ocean, is via a private road that is not maintained by the City and County of San Francisco. I will inform my guests that the easement is an unpaved road. Again, thank you. Sincerely, Madalienne

The house is absolutely better than seen in pictures. If you have a car is even better with it's own parking place. The house is bigger than in pictures. Rent it, it's a really good option.

Very nice place off the beaten path. Was great to have off street parking. Very quiet area. Always felt safe. Madalienne was always willing to assist with anything, but we never needed to call. Would stay again. Hope it'll be soon.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words of appreciation. I am delighted that your family felt comfortable in my home. We travel a great deal and appreciate the homes we have rented and the care shown by owners to us. It is my goal to offer people who rent my home a safe, clean, comfortable place to stay in San Francisco.

We stayed in this house for a month. In a word... delightful...what a pleasure. Pictures and descriptions of the house are all accurate and Madalienne was the best. She even had the cable service modified so we could watch the Giants run to the World Series. How sweet is that! Well furnished house. Comfortable. Feels like home. Kitchen was excellent (and we found a cheese grater). Excellent location with Muni rail and bus lines within a couple of blocks. Easy to jump on the N-Line and find yourself a short one block walk to to one of the nicest long sand beaches you might ever find. Stores, pubs, restaurants, banks a short two block walk to Irving Street. Want more? Hop on the N-Line for a 5 minute ride to 9th and Irving where you will find even more including a very nice yoga studio, Bija Yoga, which we highly recommended. We concur with previous reviewers that having the off street parking is a serious bonus.

This property validated our decision to use VRBO and stay in a well-thought out home rather than a sterile rental property. Pictures of the property were very accurate as are the descriptions. The house was immaculate upon arrival and well stocked with towels and linens and pillows. We rented for two weeks and while we love eating out in the San Francisco the kitchen and dining room were accommodating enough to comfortably make and serve meals. (The only negative on the kitchen is that we could not find a cheese grater!) Parking is not impossible in the Sunset but having an easy, gated spot kept our blood pressure low and maximized our time enjoying the activities we came to SF for like going to Golden Gate park, walking down to Irving St. to shop and eat, and easily getting to GG Bridge and downtown (either by car or the Judah Muni line). The owner left some helpful articles about neighborhood places to check out, which was very helpful. We ran into the owners when we were leaving and they are clearly dedicated to maintaining a friendly, useful home that is perfect for families that need a little space and like to cook. We look forward to staying there again.
Owner response:Dear Patrick and Family: Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of my home. It means a lot to me. I appreciated the fact that I had the chance to meet your family, and our meeting made me commit yet again to making sure that family members are comfortable in my home. I have had different family members of my own use the home, with a mixture of adults and children, and I want to make sure that relatives and non-relatives feel cared for. Thank you again for selecting my home for your vacation. I hope we have another opportunity to meet. Sincerely, Madalienne

We've just returned from a most relaxing time in the house. Last year we stayed closer in and had a nightmare trying to park our car (including a ticket) but this house has the rare commodity of a garage you can actually use! The house was exactly as described and we loved it. It's location is perfect, just one block north of the Judas N line and one block from the main thoroughfare of 19th. The first day we bought the weekly MUNI pass and never used the car! The house is superbly positioned to jump on the train down to 9th, (or anywhere else downtown) where there are so many excellent restaurants and coffee shops. The house is in a genuine neighborhood that still has interesting corner stores and a great atmosphere. It's also very quiet. Madalienne was the perfect hostess and nothing was too much trouble. Next time we return we will stay here, no questions, no discussions. Book it while you can!
Owner response:Dear Stewart and Family: I am glad that everyone had a good time and was comfortable in my home. Let me know when you plan to return to San Francisco. Sincerely, Madalienne Peters

We stayed in Madalienne's Sunset District home over spring break earlier this year with our two kids, ages 7 & 6 and couldn't have had a better stay!! This was our first time in SF so we were completely unfamiliar with the layout of the city and this home ended up being in the perfect location for us! Not to mention, Madalienne was incredibly gracious, made us feel right at home, and helped make our first trip to SF so enjoyable and memorable! It is nearly impossible to find a place with off-street parking in the city and we were grateful to be able to park in the gated driveway!! The location was perfect for children...very close to the beautiful Golden Gate Park, many restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops (Starbucks), etc!! The house is gorgeous, spacious and the beds were more comfortable than my own...I've never had a better nights sleep!! The muni was also easily accessible nearby although we did not need to use it since we had our own car. I would highly recommend this beautiful home, especially with kids...it was spacious, spotless, in a great location, and we will definitly stay there during future trips to SF!!! Thanks Madalienne!!! Lisa & Family
