The Willis Retreat sets the standard in Park County for comfort, seclusion, complete amenities, easy access, and all the beauty of the Colorado Rockies at a remarkable price. We guarantee you cannot find another vacation rental property with our list of amenities and quality of location at this price anywhere in the South Park region.
Location, location, location - The Willis Retreat is located just 2 miles north of Fairplay, so if you need to head into town for groceries or gas its less than a 5 minute drive. Breckenridge is 19 miles to the North (about a 30 minute drive), and its just 65 miles to Denver. The Retreat sits on five acres of pine and aspen to give you plenty of privacy (there isn't another cabin in sight!), and its only one mile off Highway 9. The road leading to the cabin is maintained and plowed by the County so its easily accessible even when the snow falls. And because the Retreat is located North of Fairplay you'll find access to Breckenridge and Summit County to be quick and very convenient.
There's plenty of room at the Retreat with its 2,500 square feet, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, giant two-car garage and carport, a paved driveway and two large storage sheds. The interior features a recently remodeled and well-appointed kitchen attached to the huge Great Room which includes a 32" LCD Flatpanel HDTV w/Direct TV Hi Def service + ALL movie channels, CD/DVD player, VCR, and stereo system. A large deck sits off the Great Room for relaxing under the stars and viewing the wildlife that passes through the property.
Need to stay connected while you're on vacation? Feel free to bring your laptop and tap into our high-speed wireless network so you can check your emails, surf the internet, etc.
The lower deck features a 6-person hot tub that is protected from the elements but offers terrific views and plenty of privacy. There are also outdoor speakers connected to a stereo and satellite dish so you can listen to commercial-free digital music.
You'll find a California King log bed in the master bedroom and a queen bed in the second bedroom. The kid's room includes bunk beds and the "game room" bedroom has a twin futon sleeper. There is also a queen-sized sofa sleeper in the Great Room. The Master bedroom includes a 20" flatscreen TV while the Gameroom bedroom has a 20" TV along with a Sony PlayStation 2 and a selection of video games and video movies ranging from kids to adults.
The cabin is pet-friendly and has a large dog run in the back yard when you want to keep your dog secured outside. If you would like a little more room to walk your dog than our 5 acres, Pike National Forest is just two miles down the road.
So the next time you're in the area and you want privacy, accessibility, comfort and all the beauty of the mountains at a reasonable price, make your plans to stay at the Willis Retreat. Why the Owner Chose Fairplay
We choose the Fairplay area for a number of reasons. First, its a quick 90 minute drive from where we live in Denver, and you don't have to deal with the traffic gridlock on I-70! Second, its much less crowded than a lot of the tourist areas in the Mountains yet all the necessities are within 5 minutes of the cabin. We didn't want a property in a busy resort community but we did want to be near one. This area fit the bill because its just 20 miles to Breckenridge. And finally, its an absolutely gorgeous area throughout the year.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
My favorite thing about the Willis Retreat is its location. While its only 5 minutes from town it is absolutely peacful and secluded. There are other cabins in our area but you cannot see them so the privacy is wonderful. The upstairs patio is huge and is a great place to enjoy a beverage while overlooking a pretty meadow with South Park and the Mosquito Range in the background. Our kids love the treehouse in the backyard and the sledding hills in the Winter. Within just a few minutes of the cabin there are great hiking and 4-wheel drive trails, and if you like fishing there are tons of streams and lakes full of trout. Finally, at the end of a long day there's nothing like relaxing and unwinding in the hot tub. To me, this is the Rocky Mountains at its best.
The Rec Center has exercise equipment, a great indoor pool, and inexpensive daily rates.
A Must See! An amazing restoration from the Colorado Gold Rush days. Over 30 old buildings from those days of been preserved here along with thousands of relics.
Easy 4-wheel drive road with beautiful scenery and old mines. But the final push up the pass is expert-only (or you can hike it). At the top, you're on the Continental Divide.
National Forest access is about 2 miles from the cabin. Hiking trails, 4-wheel drive roads, streams and ponds aplenty.

We are life-long Colorado residents, we love spending time in the mountains with our 2 kids and 2 dogs, and we are truly blessed to be able to share this wonderful property with others.

We just stayed at this cabin for the fourth time. It is such a comfortable place to stay and is dog friendly with a fenced yard which makes a big difference for us. The hot tub is a great plus too. The cabin is roomy, always spotless with a big kitchen, wood stove, satellite tv and wireless internet. It is just a few minutes from Fairplay and is easy to get to, but with tall ponderosa pines all around it quiet and feels like remote mountains. Fishing is not too far. The best part is the service of the owner. He always emails information before we arrive then checks in the first night we are there to make sure everything is okay. For all of the amenities and great service it is a great deal. We will continue our annual visits.

This is the just a wonderful place. Our family had a great time and will come back as often as possible. The grounds are beautiful and it just minutes from town but you feel like you are up in the mountains. The kitchen is huge and has everything we needed. The cabin is really big too. We all fit with plenty of room left over. Just a great place to take a break from it all!

Nice Thanksgiving Getaway

We spent our Thanksgiving 2011 at the Willis Retreat. We had four adults and two kids (ages 4 and 5). The home was clean, spacious, and had great amenities (i.e. hot tub, games, movies, even a tree house for the kids- which they absolutely loved). And I will gladly give it five stars, and highly recommend. Although I must say that we had to run into town to get several items, which was a bit of a nuisance. For instance, there was no aluminum foil, syran wrap, or plastic baggies, so after cooking a meal (considering it was Thanksgiving), salvaging leftovers was an issue (there was some tupperware). We also ran out of paper towels, napkins, and nearly ran out of toilet paper. There was no laundry detergent (maybe enough for one load) when we arrived, or kindling for the fire (although he did have fire starters). So, lesson learned on our part that we should have taken EVERYTHING that we needed, as we were looking to just burrow in during our stay. However, in spite of these minor annoyances (perhaps I should have packed/planned better!), I still will highly recommend and plan on returning sometime in the future. The owner was absolutely great, responsive, and very helpful. Our stay was very much enjoyed, and it was a great deal for such a wonderful place. We really appreciated the fact that it was pet friendly, and didn't charge any additional cleaning, pet fees, or other costs. Thank you very much for sharing your home with us!!!

We were looking for a quick getaway and thought Fairplay was a great idea. The Willis Retreat had all the comforts of home, cozy couches and a wonderful t.v, internet access, roomy spatious kitchen, just the right amount of bedrooms, fenced in back yard for our little dog to run, hot tub in the back next to an additional game room area , a convenient mud room for boots and outdoor clothing, and the list goes on. The cabin is wonderfully decorated with wildnerness touches throughout, the beds were super comfy (I am very paticular about having a comfy bed) and close enough to town for a walk to some cute shops which I enjoyed exploring. One day we decided to drive into Breckenridge which was a very short drive indeed and enjoyed spending a few hours shopping and just enjoying the morning. My husband and son enjoyed playing horse shoes and we also explored a hiking trail which wasn't too far from the cabin which we all enjoyed. Randy was very pleasant and eager to help us answer any questions we had concerning directions or anything involving the cabin. My husband also appreciated the option of being able to park in the garage if he chose to do so, (we didn't need to) but it was nice having a car port option as well. The kids enjoyed riding their scooters up and down the circular driveway. If we ever come back to Fairplay we will definitely stay at the Willis Retreat.

The Retreat is very comfortable. A great space - large living room and kitchen, comfy bedrooms, hot tub, wood stove, plus satellite tv and wireless Internet to stay connected. It's a nice quiet location. No neighbors in sight or sound from the house. Yet easy access to town for gas, market, dining. We also made day trips around the area for fun hikes and sightseeing. Randy is super helpful and thoughtful. The house is equipped with all the supplies you need. And he accommodated a last minute reservation change for me when my schedule changed.

I stayed August 27 to Sept 2 at the Willis Retreat near Fairplay, Colorado. Having lived in the area decades ago, I knew where to look for a comfortable mountain home to rest up after daily hiking and sightseeing. From the minute I found Willis Retreat on-line I was impressed with the informative, clear description of the property. The Willis Retreat web site is well designed and depicts the retreat exactly as we found it upon arrival. Before, during, and after our visit, the owner was in touch by email, updating us every step of the way.He was available for any unforeseen problems - but we had absoloutely zero problems. It is a plus that the owner's family lives in Colorado and uses their mountain home often themselves! The home and property were extremely clean and comfortable. There was room to spare, but at most we had only 6 adults - the capacity is built for about twice that many if needed. After a day of hiking nearby trails, the Willis Retreat provided a restful place to recharge and read, talk with family, cook and eat. The nearby activities are so numerous, it would have taken a month to put a dent in them! Hiking is outstanding on the nearby National Forest trails within minutes of the Retreat. The Ranger Station in Fairplay is fantastic and provides published and oral recommendations for the area. Although we did not fish or mountain bike during this trip - these are the two other popular activities for the area. The scenery of the mountains ringing the magnificent South Park is beautiful. We also visited the nearby towns of Como and Alma - both are quaint old west towns with roots in mining like Fairplay. The people in all three towns are friendly and very helpful with information. I would definitely recommend the Willis Retreat to anyone who enjoys a mountain getaway surrounded by limitless outdoor activities - well away from the bustle of big cities, yet only 90 minutes from Denver and a few minutes from Breckenridge.

My husband and I stayed at the retreat with my Dad, Stepmom, 11-month old daughter, and 2 large dogs. It was so relaxing! It was quiet and peaceful but close enough to civilization that we still had cell phone service and internet. The retreat was especially suited for us because it was baby- and pet- friendly. Amenities provided for the baby included: pack n play, space saver high chair, and gate for the open stairwell, so we didn't have to haul any of those large items with us. The fenced back yard area was great for us for early morning and after dark when the dogs wanted out but we didn't want to worry about them chasing the wildlife (especially while we kicked back in the hot tub!). Everything was clean and very well kept. We'll be back!

We fell in love with the cabin as soon as we arrived!! So nicely decorated and comfortable.Spacious, clean and well kept. Great instructions to follow for use of all the amenities that are offered. We slept like babies in the comfortable bed after relaxing in the evening in the hot tub after a day of atving. We enjoyed all the atv trails that we managed to ride the 6 days that we did go. It was also nice to have a cozy fire a couple of mornings to take the chill off. We also enjoyed the beautiful scenery from the deck and cooked many meals on the grill. It was a wonderful place to spend our Honeymoon at and will always be remembered. Thanks for sharing your beautiful cabin with us and we will be back!!! :)
