Randy was very easy to work with. He emailed us a week prior to our stay with further directions/or if we had any questions, called the first night we were there to make sure everything was as expected, and when we had a question just prior to leaving promptly replied. He was also prompt in returning our security deposit. The location of the home was perfect for us.Our adult children live in the Denver area while we are on the Western Slope, so it was close to a halfway point for us, no one had to drive far to be together. It was close to a grocery store, but yet seemed secluded and private. We were able to enjoy a wonderful time with our children celebrating my wifes birthday. Would definately rent this property again and wouldn't hesitate to recommed Randy and his retreat.

What a wonderful place to come stay and relax in the Colorado mountain air. The Willis Retreat has a wonderful cabin feel with plenty of bedrooms to accomodate any size family. Everything is very clean and hospitable from the moment you walk in the door. Garage space is available as well to store bikes or put your car in. With plenty of property surrounding the cabin you have plenty of privace to enjoy your time. You can't help but relax with the help of the onsite hot tub. If you just can't live without modern technology the cabin has open wireless internet access, plenty of DVD movies as well as satelite TV. The town of fairplay is a small town with a market and a couple restaraunts. However is is a short 20 mile scenic drive over Hoosier pass into the ski town of Breckenridge for skiing shopping or good food and cocktails. Our pets were welcome as well and a fenced in back yard allowed for them to enjoy the outdoors as well. We loved our stay and will definitely be going back for another stay soon.

The Willis Retreat is an amazing mountain getaway for a period of relaxation. The spacious retreat offers a very cozy mountain home perfect for your family. This place has everything you'll need - you just bring the food and drinks. The property is well-maintained, stocked with an abundance of firewood, snowshoes, sleds, a private hot tub and it is pet friendly! Located just a half-hour from Breckenridge, it is perfect to stay here and enjoy great skiing in Summit County - and you get to avoid I-70 traffic by using US 285 to get back to Denver. Randy is very accomodating and is always available for questions, if you have them. I can't think of a reason why someone would not enjoy their time at the Willis Retreat. What a great weekend!

This cabin is excellent for those who want a true mountain experience. The cabin is well maintained and extremely clean. The views from the deck are beautiful and the out door hot tub is a plus. You can hike or snow shoe right in the back yard which is nice. I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a secluded get away. Thanks, John

I was very impressed by the professionalism and attention to detail the owner provided in support of this property. What a wonderful retreat! My family and I were just looking for a weekend to get away from routine and this was perfect. We spent one day warm and cozy watching it snow and taking walks in the woods. The house has everything you might ask for your comfort. The other day we spent skiing in the very close Breckenridge ski area, only a very short drive away. This is a wonderful place to enjoy the best Colorado has to offer. Randy is the most responsive, professional owner I have ever dealt with. I cannot recommend him and his property highly enough! Go enjoy. Thank you very much!

We just stayed at this cabin for the fourth time. It is such a comfortable place to stay and is dog friendly with a fenced yard which makes a big difference for us. The hot tub is a great plus too. The cabin is roomy, always spotless with a big kitchen, wood stove, satellite tv and wireless internet. It is just a few minutes from Fairplay and is easy to get to, but with tall ponderosa pines all around it quiet and feels like remote mountains. Fishing is not too far. The best part is the service of the owner. He always emails information before we arrive then checks in the first night we are there to make sure everything is okay. For all of the amenities and great service it is a great deal. We will continue our annual visits.

This is the just a wonderful place. Our family had a great time and will come back as often as possible. The grounds are beautiful and it just minutes from town but you feel like you are up in the mountains. The kitchen is huge and has everything we needed. The cabin is really big too. We all fit with plenty of room left over. Just a great place to take a break from it all!

We spent our Thanksgiving 2011 at the Willis Retreat. We had four adults and two kids (ages 4 and 5). The home was clean, spacious, and had great amenities (i.e. hot tub, games, movies, even a tree house for the kids- which they absolutely loved). And I will gladly give it five stars, and highly recommend. Although I must say that we had to run into town to get several items, which was a bit of a nuisance. For instance, there was no aluminum foil, syran wrap, or plastic baggies, so after cooking a meal (considering it was Thanksgiving), salvaging leftovers was an issue (there was some tupperware). We also ran out of paper towels, napkins, and nearly ran out of toilet paper. There was no laundry detergent (maybe enough for one load) when we arrived, or kindling for the fire (although he did have fire starters). So, lesson learned on our part that we should have taken EVERYTHING that we needed, as we were looking to just burrow in during our stay. However, in spite of these minor annoyances (perhaps I should have packed/planned better!), I still will highly recommend and plan on returning sometime in the future. The owner was absolutely great, responsive, and very helpful. Our stay was very much enjoyed, and it was a great deal for such a wonderful place. We really appreciated the fact that it was pet friendly, and didn't charge any additional cleaning, pet fees, or other costs. Thank you very much for sharing your home with us!!!

We were looking for a quick getaway and thought Fairplay was a great idea. The Willis Retreat had all the comforts of home, cozy couches and a wonderful t.v, internet access, roomy spatious kitchen, just the right amount of bedrooms, fenced in back yard for our little dog to run, hot tub in the back next to an additional game room area , a convenient mud room for boots and outdoor clothing, and the list goes on. The cabin is wonderfully decorated with wildnerness touches throughout, the beds were super comfy (I am very paticular about having a comfy bed) and close enough to town for a walk to some cute shops which I enjoyed exploring. One day we decided to drive into Breckenridge which was a very short drive indeed and enjoyed spending a few hours shopping and just enjoying the morning. My husband and son enjoyed playing horse shoes and we also explored a hiking trail which wasn't too far from the cabin which we all enjoyed. Randy was very pleasant and eager to help us answer any questions we had concerning directions or anything involving the cabin. My husband also appreciated the option of being able to park in the garage if he chose to do so, (we didn't need to) but it was nice having a car port option as well. The kids enjoyed riding their scooters up and down the circular driveway. If we ever come back to Fairplay we will definitely stay at the Willis Retreat.

The Retreat is very comfortable. A great space - large living room and kitchen, comfy bedrooms, hot tub, wood stove, plus satellite tv and wireless Internet to stay connected. It's a nice quiet location. No neighbors in sight or sound from the house. Yet easy access to town for gas, market, dining. We also made day trips around the area for fun hikes and sightseeing. Randy is super helpful and thoughtful. The house is equipped with all the supplies you need. And he accommodated a last minute reservation change for me when my schedule changed.

I stayed August 27 to Sept 2 at the Willis Retreat near Fairplay, Colorado. Having lived in the area decades ago, I knew where to look for a comfortable mountain home to rest up after daily hiking and sightseeing. From the minute I found Willis Retreat on-line I was impressed with the informative, clear description of the property. The Willis Retreat web site is well designed and depicts the retreat exactly as we found it upon arrival. Before, during, and after our visit, the owner was in touch by email, updating us every step of the way.He was available for any unforeseen problems - but we had absoloutely zero problems. It is a plus that the owner's family lives in Colorado and uses their mountain home often themselves! The home and property were extremely clean and comfortable. There was room to spare, but at most we had only 6 adults - the capacity is built for about twice that many if needed. After a day of hiking nearby trails, the Willis Retreat provided a restful place to recharge and read, talk with family, cook and eat. The nearby activities are so numerous, it would have taken a month to put a dent in them! Hiking is outstanding on the nearby National Forest trails within minutes of the Retreat. The Ranger Station in Fairplay is fantastic and provides published and oral recommendations for the area. Although we did not fish or mountain bike during this trip - these are the two other popular activities for the area. The scenery of the mountains ringing the magnificent South Park is beautiful. We also visited the nearby towns of Como and Alma - both are quaint old west towns with roots in mining like Fairplay. The people in all three towns are friendly and very helpful with information. I would definitely recommend the Willis Retreat to anyone who enjoys a mountain getaway surrounded by limitless outdoor activities - well away from the bustle of big cities, yet only 90 minutes from Denver and a few minutes from Breckenridge.

My husband and I stayed at the retreat with my Dad, Stepmom, 11-month old daughter, and 2 large dogs. It was so relaxing! It was quiet and peaceful but close enough to civilization that we still had cell phone service and internet. The retreat was especially suited for us because it was baby- and pet- friendly. Amenities provided for the baby included: pack n play, space saver high chair, and gate for the open stairwell, so we didn't have to haul any of those large items with us. The fenced back yard area was great for us for early morning and after dark when the dogs wanted out but we didn't want to worry about them chasing the wildlife (especially while we kicked back in the hot tub!). Everything was clean and very well kept. We'll be back!

We fell in love with the cabin as soon as we arrived!! So nicely decorated and comfortable.Spacious, clean and well kept. Great instructions to follow for use of all the amenities that are offered. We slept like babies in the comfortable bed after relaxing in the evening in the hot tub after a day of atving. We enjoyed all the atv trails that we managed to ride the 6 days that we did go. It was also nice to have a cozy fire a couple of mornings to take the chill off. We also enjoyed the beautiful scenery from the deck and cooked many meals on the grill. It was a wonderful place to spend our Honeymoon at and will always be remembered. Thanks for sharing your beautiful cabin with us and we will be back!!! :)

The Willis Retreat was a great place for us to stay with our 3 kids & dog for a long weekend in the mountains. Enjoyed hiking and exploring the close by trails and coming back to relax at the secluded cabin. Lots of things for the kids (& parents) to do. The kids of course loved the game room and board games available. The main room was very open and bright with the view of the back of the property. We also enjoyed the hot tub in evenings and all of us slept well in the comfortable beds. Lots of thought put into the retreat and the service provided (appreciated the thorough information). Thanks for providing a great place to stay!

We enjoyed our stay so much that we definitely plan on returning. The cabin was clean and comfortable and we could see that a lot of thought and caring has gone into making this a relaxing, enjoyable "home away from home." Our grandchildren loved the treehouse and gameroom. Randy has anticipated the vacationer's every need and there were detailed instructions for the hot tub, etc. that were very much appreciated. Went ATV riding on Mosquito Pass road, fishing with the kids at Fairplay Beach and had a great dinner at Millonzi's Italian restaurant. Thanks Randy, for sharing your wonderful place!

Hi Randy, We LOVED our stay. We thought you did a wonderful job stocking the house with everything we'd need. It was very comfortable, the instructions were easy to follow and helpful and the location made it easy to visit the area. But, we did spend a lot of time just relaxing around the cabin. And my kids loved the bunkbeds and treehouse. It's very apparent you take a lot of pride in the home and we will definitely be back. Our only negative was that at 10,400 ft, it's a little more difficult to catch your breath! Thanks again, Rebecca

This is a spacious, secluded, and comfortable property to stay in with no detail left ignored. There is a large kitchen, private hot tub and porch, game room, wood burning stove, satellite and high definition tv, and high speed internet. We used all of the amenities and had an amazing time! There are a few good restaurants in town and a great coffee house and Breckenridge is just a short ride away. This would be a great place to rent in any season with so much to do close by including skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, and hunting.

We had a wonderful stay at the Willis Retreat. It was clean, everything worked well and the kitchen is large and roomy. The fenced yard was great for our dogs. We didn't have to worry about them wandering off and finding wild critters. The hot tub was great. Usually we have to drive to another town to go to the hot springs when we stay in Fairplay. It was so convenient to have internet access and satellite television. The decor was fun and the wood stove made it even more cozy. The location was private but close to town and easy to get to. It was a great value and close to Breckenridge. The owners were responded to questions we had and check in with us to make sure every thing was working fine for us. We will definitely be returning.

We spend a wonderful 5 days at your cabin in December. The cabin was close to town but secluded and peaceful. Fairplay is very close and has everything that you could need. Our dogs (and us) loved the fenced in yard. There were deer that came to the fence at dusk that were a joy to watch. The cabin was spacious and clean, with a well stocked kitchen. It was nice to have the satellite TV with one one in the master bedroom. Randy made sure that everything was in working order when we got there and that we knew how to hold of him if we needed. There was only one drawback to the cabin… all the restrooms are on the lower level with the bedrooms. One person in our party had to wear a foot boot and the steps were difficult for them.

We rented the house for a week in mid-September to spend time fishing and relaxing. We had a great stay...the accommodations are clean, comfortable and convenient. Our dog enjoyed spending her time on the deck too! The house feels secluded and private as it is nestled in the aspens and pines....really beautiful in the fall. We enjoyed having access to the satellite TV and high-speed internet, and dinner at the South Park Steakhouse in Fairplay was a nice change from cooking in! My only caution to prospective renters is that the layout of the house could present challenges to someone who does not handle stairs well. Otherwise, it's terrific!
Owner response:Thank you for the review, Karen. I agree with your point about the stairs which is one of the reasons I've posted a virtual tour video walkthrough of the cabin on our websites that support web videos.

My wife and I and our small dog spent a delightful month in the Willis Retreat in Fairplay, Colorado this summer. The high country (10,000 ft.) air provided us with a welcome respite from the humid hot summers of the southeast. The cabin was perfect for us--clean, lots of room, comfortable furnishings, and a super location. It was quiet and paeceful---especially at night. Fairplay and the nearby surroundings offer much to do----excellent hiking and car-touring, trout fishing, shopping , golf (35 miles away), and a few decent restaurants. We liked our stay so much, we are considering a return trip next summer. Randy Willis the owner was extremely helpful both before and during our stay.

This Home was spacious and immaculate! Having stayed in many vacation homes this was the cleanest we had ever stayed in. Convenient location to many activities. We enjoyed the outstanding hiking and fishing in the area. The cabin is located in a nice country area away from the hustle and bustle of town. Our dogs enjoyed the fenced in back yard. My kids enjoyed the game room and we all enjoyed the hot tub after a long day of hiking. This was truly a beautiful place to stay! The hike to Mohawk lake was breathtaking and if you can handle a little bit of a rough ride, Kite Lake and the surrounding 14ers were unforgetable. The trip over Boreas Pass ending in Breckenridge was a trip back in time. We would definitely suggest a vacation in this home to anyone, and we are quite sure we will be back!

Our stay at the Willis Retreat was wonderful. All the amenities you could ask for..easy access, and in a spot that puts you close to all the action the Rocky Mountains has to offer. If you just want to "chill", you can do that too. I felt at home and was bummed to be heading back to the city..hope someday to return.

We stayed at the Retreat in fall of 2007 and in the spring of 2009. On both stays the cabin was clean and well-equpped. Randy called both times on our arrival day to make sure our needs were taken care of. The Retreat book has instructions for operating everything in the cabin, along with suggested hikes, places to shop, restaurants, and local attractions. The South Park Museum reveals a weath of history about the mining of the area, along with insight into the lives of the people of that era. The Pike National forest is just a few minutes away. The five acres allow privacy, yet convenience since you are only a few minutes from town.

Hello my name is Darrin and I spent a wonderful weekend at the Willis Retreat. The cabin is so nice and comfortable and what I really like is that pets are allowed, it is so much fun to be able to take that part of my family along and be able to enjoy both being in a wonderful place and having there company also. Very nicley set up and cared for. Very nice even for 8 people was just perfect.

My family has stayed several times at the Willis Retreat. We love it! The Willis Family goes out of their way to make sure you have a "home away from home" experience while you are there. The location is great - you can get to the ski resorts, hiking trails, etc without problems. The property is nicely furnished, clean, and lots of room for everyone. There are games, DVD's, a Hot Tub, sleds, etc. for everyone to enjoy. The kitchen is well stocked too. You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay at the Willis Retreat!

This cabin was beyond our expectations! It was in a perfect location with just the right amount of privacy, but close enough to town if we needed anything. The cabin and property was well kept and clean. We were outside walking and sledding every day. The hot tub was relaxing after an active day outside. The kitchen was a perfect place to cook and hang out; and the living room was a wonderful place to have a fire in the wood stove and get cozy. Overall it was an awesome family weekend, and I would definitely stay again!!!

Party of four plus dog, all had a great time. Main level is much bigger than pictures look. Woodstove is easy to start a fire and heats fast. Nicely decorated and stocked. Peace and quiet with easy ascess. Outdoor hot tub was great. Great price when you compare to others and what you get at the Willis Retreat.

We had a second quite enjoyable long Thanksgiving weekend at the Willis Retreat. The house is great for communal cooking with the open kitchen/dining area/living room. Since all of us are avid readers we enjoyed watching the snow drift down while lying around in the living room while it snowed. The fenced in yard is great for the dogs and the many dirt roads in the area are wonderful for taking long walks-of which, we did many.

My husband and I (and chihuahua) enjoyed this cabin immensely. It had many more amenities than other rentals. The owner provided supplies, had there been more snow, for snow shoeing and sledding plus other activities, plus the space to do it in. There are board games, puzzles, darts, horseshoes and much more to entertain the kids; they even have their own game room. I think it would be an ideal rental for families with kids. However, it was ideal for just 2 adults, too. The hot tub and wood stove are wonderful, as is the comfy living room and kitchen. The house and property were well maintained and clean. The owner called shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was OK. My only slightest regret was that we couldn't see the mtns in the distance from the deck for the beautiful trees and scenery we did get to see. No matter, I plan on renting it again and have already told many people about it. In fact, although my husband and I are coming back, my Sister and I and our girlfriends always try to do an annual getaway, and guess what?...you guessed it. What a great place! I promise, you won't be disappointed but, pleasantly surprised to get so much for your money.

I could not thank the willis retreat enough for letting us use their cabin. My family and i had such a wonderful time last fall of 2007 that we came back this year. The pictures in the web site dont do this fine cabin any justice. This cabin is so comfortable that it doesnt take long to unwind from city life. The streams within one mile of the cabin have world class fishing and the hunting nearby is second to none. If your not the sporting type there is an abundance of things to do. One could take in just sightseeing for a week and never take in all the breathtaking views. For myself and my family we can't wait to get back, hopefully in the fall of 2009.

Being from the Gulf Coast of Texas, spending the month of August in Colorado was a dream come true. And we couldn't have selected a more perfect property for our stay. The huge living area openly connected to the kitchen and dining area gave a great "open" feel to the place and allowed everyone to not miss any activities or conversations. Being at 10,000 feet, it did take a day or so for us to acclimatize, but after that, we were off and running. We fished in the town lake on several occasions - catching fish on every trip. We got some great information on hiking and auto tours from the ranger station there in Fairplay. The townspeople were some of the friendliest and most helpful folks we could've hoped for. The cabin was a great "retreat" as there were no close neighbors to bother us while having enough land on the property to allow short walks and nature strolls. With internet hookups and digital TV, we could keep up with the rest of the world whenever we wanted. The beds made for excellent sleeping. The furnished propane grill was really put to use, as well as the hot tub after a day of hiking or fishing. We even used some of the equipment to try our hand at gold panning. We quickly began to refer to the property as "home" as it "fit" us really well. The kitchen had that new, comfortable look to it - as well as the living area with its soft couches, fur-lined rocking chairs, fire-stove (firewood provided), and the half size stuffed deer and bear. The kitchen was stocked with everything one could want. The driveway was a very smooth asphalt surface. There was a card table for working on jig-saw puzzles (provided), and TV trays so we could watch the Olympics while dining. There are a multitude of places to fish - along the nearby Platte River, reservoirs, the Arkansas River near Buena Vista (40 min), the Blue River in Breckinridge (25 min.), and the Beach in Fairplay. We found great bochures for self guided auto tours and great hiking trails. Take a picnic lunch and just head out for the day. Make sure you go to South Park City - the historical collection of about 40 - 1850's buildings with contents right in Fairplay (Trapper's cabin, dentist office, caboose, museum, typical homes/cabins, grocery stores, etc.). It was our first long stay anywhere away from home, and I think we'll be hard pressed to find a property that comes close to this one.
