Why the Owner Chose Lower Moonridge
The reason we chose this location was mostly due to the privacy that this particular cabin has. Since it's located literally on a hillside, it feels really private, yet it's still really close to everything you need. We're minutes away form the slopes, lake, great restaurants, shopping...
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
The deck is a huge bonus to this cabin. It's a full wrap-around covered deck overlooking the neighborhood, with a great hot tub resting in the back corner tucked into the hillside giving it privacy. The floors we just installed inside are fabulous also, we just finished putting in hand scraped teak floors, and also slate stone. It looks great.
Great skiing and snowboarding, and even downhill mountain biking in the summer
A very unique Alpine Zoo, made up of rescued animals... huge bears, cougars, wolves, bald eagles... our kids love it.

I'm a musician in Los Angeles. I purchased this second home in Big Bear Lake to start a family tradition, wanted get a place we could create memories at as a family. I've got three young children and have been married to an amazing wife, Tracey for 7 years now. We love this little cabin. We put a lot of hard work into it, so we hope you enjoy our little piece of the mountain.

We had the best time in Big Bear. The snow was fabulaous and the accomodations were perfect. After a hard day of skiing it was wonderful to relax in the large jacuzzi. The house is small but perfectly appointed. Our girls had a great time sledding right our the front door. We really appreciate that we we were able to bring our Bichon dog, who also LOVED the snow. The house is located at the end of a cul-de-sac, and very private. Travis was wonderful to work with. We will definately be making a return visit to the Hillside Hideway...perhaps in thte summer.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in Aug with our 4 teenagers. I have to admit I am a little snobby, I didnt want a "traditional cabin" with dark carpet and wood paneling and stuffed animal heads mounted on the walls. I wanted a contemporary place that was similar to my decor at home. When I found the photos on line, I was skeptical because the price seemed too good to be true. The cabin was perfect, just enough room for the 6 of us plus our 2 dogs. There were plenty of extra linens and pillows to keep us warm and comfortable. We spent the majority of the time at the cabin out on the deck, either grilling, using the hot tub or playing games. There was enough furniture on the deck for 10-12 people, and the view was spectacular. It is very private and quiet as the house is at the end of a cul-de-sac. On prior vacations, we always stayed at a hotel and would practically jump out of bed in the morning to get out of there because we were all on top of each other. Although we had a great time on the lake and exploring all the family activities Big Bear has to offer, we could have stayed at the cabin for the whole week and had an amazing time. I would absolutely recommend this cabin. Thanks for your hospitality Travis, we loved your place and hope to stay again soon!! Matt and Rhonda Andrews, Las Vegas, NV
Owner response:Matt and Rhonda, thank you for your kindness. This is why we do this, we feel blessed to have a great place up in the mountains and every time we can share a little bit of that with another family it makes us feel great. Make sure and let us know when you want to come back so we can give you the Return Renter discount of 10%. Stay cool in Vegas!

We've stayed at many all over the nation and never had a problem, but this was the worst nightmare ever. The place is run down, weeds and a hose (careful not to trip) across the steps to the door. There were 6 bicycles parked next door in our shared driveway and plenty of noisy kids to go with them. Worst of all, Saturday morning at 8am, construction started for 2 hours. When I called the owner, he suggested I "drive around and find where it's coming from!" We left to go hiking and the owner called later to say there was "Nothing he could do." Since some items in the house didn't work, also there was NO remote for the TV, I asked if we could just pay for the night we stayed and leave, and he said "it was not his responsibility for what happened." We came home to more construction, and when I called the owner again and begged that we could get out of our contract and pay for 2 days now, he said he would offer us a "free night on our next stay when we ever returned"??? Now, I ask you, why would we ever want to relive such a horrendous experience? He all but ruined our vacation with his lack of caring. If you don't take my warning, be sure and take out the insurance so you can get out when the owner won't help you.
Owner response:THIS IS JUST WRONG, AND A IT'S A SHAME THAT HOMEAWAY ALLOWS LIES TO BE PERMANENTLY POSTED ON THESE BOARDS. Fernando: My apologies for not having the mountain side freshly trimmed, the mountain side grows when it wants to and we typically only cut it twice a year, with the extra rain it grew more quickly this year. It's looking great now. I'm sorry, but our place is not run down. We just recently remodeled this place, and from the 60 other reviews that say how nice and cute this place is, I would disagree with you as well. EVERYTHING in our house works, and the TV remotes are there, you could have called me if you could not find them, I just used them. TO EVERYONE ELSE READING THIS: It's amazing to me how people decide to trash us when they do not get free stuff. There was no construction going on, I had my property manager personally drive out to scout out the noise AFTER I CALLED TO THE CITY to find out what may be causing the noise. It turned out to be a weed-trimmer two houses down. So people are not allowed to trim their grass? It lasted for maybe one hour and was well within the sound regulations of Big Bear Lake. Also, this cabin is in a neighborhood, so people on our street may have kids riding bikes, watch out!?? I could immediately tell these people just wanted free nights for something that was completely out of my control and completely normal for any cabin rental, but I still gave in and offered them a free night on a future stay, and this is the thanks I get for that. Please know that we try our best to offer you a great deal on a nice place to stay, and we have great relationships with 99.99% of all of our renters... but please do not try and take advantage of us like this, and then trash us on our board if you don't get exactly what you want.

My husband and pooch and I enjoyed staying at the Hillside Hideaway this Memorial Day Weekend. We hiked and went to the lake during the day and then snuggled up and watched movies on the couch or relaxed in the hot tub on the deck at night. The deck is perfect for grilling and sitting outside in nice weather. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 star rating is because the bathroom really needs to be re-caulked, there is mildew around the tub. Other than that little annoyance, it's an adorable cabin and looks just like the pictures!

My wife and I stayed here and found it to be a delightful place of rest and respite. It seems like it's been finished and adorned by someone who knows what they're doing and truly loves this place. It quickly felt like home! The amenities (jacuzzi) were wonderful! Can't wait to get back.
Owner response:Thanks Sean! We've put a lot of sweat and hard work into this cabin, and we're so glad you guys got to enjoy it. We would love to have you back, remember we offer a 10% return renter discount!

Hillside Hideaway was a fabulous getaway for our family. The house was decorated so nicely- not cheesy log cabin, but really nicely done. It was perfectly appointed with comfortable beds, linens, etc. The kitchen was a nice size, and had all the amenities you would need to cook meals for your family. The hot tub was very nice to get into after a long day playing in the snow. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was very easy to work with and gave great suggestions for restaurants, local sites, etc. I would highly recommend this rental to friends and family.
