We had an awesome, fun filled 8 dyas at Makai Hale. Celebrating my 50th birthday with our Seattle friends. Close to beach and downtown Hanalei. Beautiful, comfortable house, well stocked and room enough for 2 families. Bedrooms spacious. Cannot wait to come back some day!!! THank you .

Thank you again Bardin family - your home was beautiful and everything we hoped it would be. The weather on Kauai wasn't in our favour and yet, we still had a great time. Thank you for your flexibility and absolute professionalism from the very outset...we hope to stay at your home again in the future.

Only a quick 2 minute walk to one of the best beaches on Kauai! Very very spacious bedrooms. There were lots of options for beach toys in the garage and the "beach buggy" transported everything, which made the short walk ever that much more enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again!

Well the title of my review (almost) says it all! Our family of 5 (kids' ages: 4, 7, 10) stayed here for two weeks and while we've stayed in a few different rental homes in Hanalei, this is our new favorite. THE HOME: immaculate, beautifully decorated, lots of natural light; very comfortable beds and furnishings; the bunk room was a huge hit with the kids! it was great to have a kids' bathroom right off of their bedroom; the enclosed porch off of the living/dining area had a lovely, totally green view - so relaxing; the layout was wonderful with the main rooms upstairs taking full advantage of the views and tradewinds, while the downstairs provided a separate living space for the kids to hang out and watch dvds. The kitchen was very well-equipped so we ate virtually all of our meals at home. THE LOCATION: absolutely ideal if you're looking for walking distance to a wonderful, lifeguarded beach (Pavillions), and walking distance to town (8-10 minutes maybe?) which we did every single day. If you google earth it you'll see what a terrific location it is; it's easy driving distance to all the other great beaches on the North Shore too- Secret's, Tunnels, etc. IDEAL FOR FAMILIES: We had some friends join us for our 2nd week and they stayed downstairs in the master suite while their kids were comfortably accomodated in the bunk room with our 3. It was the perfect space for our two families. Did I already mention how great it was to have a separate space downstairs for the kids to hang out? :) and thoughtful touches - the beach chairs, sand toys, and the all-important beach stroller to carry everything in was perfect - we used them every day. The bikes were perfect for a quick ride to town to get coffee or pick up a few things at the market. We absolutely loved our stay in this wonderful home and cannot wait to return!
Owner response:Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the house. Your review reminds me of why we built the house. I can't wait for our family trip this summer. Aloha

My husband and I stayed at this home for a week in October. It is fabulous! It is spacious but warm with beautiful island decor. It has a lovely view off the back decks and master bedroom of the jungle and mountains. We watched the sunrise while drinking coffee on the screened in porch every morning, then walked the short block down to the beach to check the surf. We rarely got in the car, just rode beach cruisers everywhere. It is walking distance to the town of Hanalei which has very good restaurants and shops. We had a dinner party for 8 utilizing all the kitchen amenities. We look forward to going back!
Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. My wife pride our selves making our guest’s stay in our home comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

We spent just over a week at this fantastic vacation house with our friends. The house was perfect for two couples along with their respective rugrats, who really enjoyed the bunk bed room. The location is fantastic; close to the beach and easily walkable into town, even for the four-year-olds. The house had tons of toys for the beach, plenty of beach towls, etc. Bedrooms were very nice as was the kitchen. Tuck some basic spices (salt/pepper) into your luggage so you don't have to buy them at the grocery. We loved it so much we've already booked our return for next summer. Mahalo!

This house is THE MOST comfortable vacation house I have stayed in. The house is very new, clean and modern. The location is awesome (2 minutes walk to the beach and 5 minutes walk to town). The house has EVERY accommodation you can possibly think of: surf board, snorkeling gear, beach toys, any kind of cooking supplies and appliances. The deck is screened in, so you can enjoy the cool outdoor breeze without worrying about the bug bites, and the house is located in front of an open field so the house stays cool all the time. My family and I really enjoyed our stay and we will definitely come back here. I highly recommend this vacation house for families with kids. Thank you Tony :-)

The problem with visiting Kauai is you never want to leave. Tony's house doesn't help this problem! It's absolutely perfect in every way - simply stated: super location, wonderful floor plan, great amenities. We can't wait to come back to this house! We traveled with our 18-month old and the house was very suitable for this age, as well. The safe cul-de-sac to play and lovely backyard provided hours of entertainment when we weren't at the beach (which is only 5 houses away). We enjoyed our morning walks/bike-rides to Hanalei as well - a perfect distance away. Working with Tony was easy and efficient, and even the local, Hilary, help came in handy. We all fell in love with this house, and know it will be a vacation spot for years to come. Thank you Tony & Family for sharing...

2 couples and a solo traveler stayed here and it was the perfect setup. We all had our own private beds and baths. The home has such a warm feeling. A wonderful tropical breeze throughout the house. The upstairs kitchen/dining room/living room made for super relaxed get togethers. One block to a community beach park and a magnificent beach! The beach is practically empty in the early morning and so serene! 10 minute walk to downtown Hanalei and a variety of restaurants and shopping. Great snorkeling 10-15 minutes by car near the Napali Coast trail head. Excellent stay!

We go to Kauai annually with the kids and have tried all types of locations and rentals in Hanalei Bay… the Bardin home will definitely be one of our favorites! The prime location to the beach as well as ample space in the home which was beautifully decorated made this trip very relaxing. Tony was so easy to work with and always provided timely responses to my questions. This home is also a short walking distance from town so you have the best of both worlds. I would recommend this rental to everyone and we look forward to renting from the Bardin family again in the future!

Wonderful stay! Great house, awesome location, very peaceful and quiet. I have been going to Hanalei for 30 years, and this is the best house I have ever stayed at (that includes houses on the beach). Being a few houses back from the beach was very tranquil and serene. I have 2 young children and the house was set up perfectly for families. Looking forward to our next trip there soon.

We had such a wonderful time in Kauai!!! Staying at this house made our visit even more special. We just loved the house! The house is GREAT and BEAUTIFUL!!! Each bedroom has its own beautiful bathroom which was so convenient for all of us. We absolutely loved the kitchen which was so well stocked with cooking and food preparation tools. I was amazed! We loved the location which is such a short walk to the beach and the town. My husband kept telling me I did a great job in finding a house to stay at. Nobody was ready to leave Kauai or the house after our week and a half stay. We definitely plan to rent this house again. Thank you so much Bardin family for sharing your beautiful Kauai home with us!
Owner response:It's not easy finding a vacation rental house that meets everyone in your family's needs. I'm glad you found our house and you are welcome back any time.

My husband, myself, our 3 small children and my parents spent 2 weeks at the Bardin's house and had an amazing time. It was our first time in Kauai and we felt so lucky to have picked the perfect location. The beach is a super short walk away from the house and it was the perfect place for the whole family. The waves were big enough for the kids to feel like they were really in the ocean, but not so big they were scared to go in. We can't say enough about the house. Everything is high end and lovingly cared for and maintained. There was plenty room for us all. Thank you for providing all the extras for the beach too. We loved the town of Hanalei and had many Hawaiian ices! We had a true vacation away from the business of everyday life. We will definitely be back.

What a lovely home! We shared our trip with cherished friends with an infant-it was great to have the two masters, one on each level for each family. My 10 year-old loved having his own wing and bathroom. Tony was very responsive and made sure a high chair, gate and pack-n-play were at the property for the infant. The kitchen has absolutely anything you might need and the location is super close to a nice beach and also close to town. Walking into town for a latte at Java Kai and macadamia nut sticky buns at the Wake-Up Hanalai Cafe was great or you can brew coffee at the house and sit on the lanai and enjoy the breeze. I hesitate to give this home such a positive review only because I fear it will be booked next time we plan a visit.
Owner response:I'm glad you enjoyed you stay in our home. We recently purchased a high chair, pack-n-play and baby gates. Be sure to book next years trip well in advance! Aloha

The house set up was great for us - two couples and two kids - and the location is about as good as it gets.... very close to the beach and town in a quiet section of Hanalei. It had everything we needed for both adults and kids but we especially appreciated having a bunch of G/PG-rated DVDs, beach toys, and kid-sized boogie boards. We loved our vacation and can't wait to return. Thank you, Tony & Family!
Owner response:I'm glad you and the kid a had a great time. Come back any time!

As a family of four from Australia, this Hale was perfect for our one month stay. It is a gem.Tony, the owner of the property, was an absolute pleasure to deal with. He was so patient and tolerant of my every whim. Everything was as he described. I would highly recommend this property - both the house and the location absolutely lived up to what was written on the website." This amazing property was set in a gorgeous private location and the beach access was very convenient. After being on the beach everyday it was nice to come home to a totally different view. The lush green magical mountains of the Hanalei back country lurch out at you from the back verandahs....so peaceful to the eye and soothing to the soul. Coming from Oz, we had limited luggage but this home delivered everything we possibly needed. From the luxury beds with fresh linen, the fluffy-clean towels, the outdoor showers, games, DVD’s, ipod sound system, beach gear and gourmet kitchen, the home exceeded our expectations in so many ways. There was plenty of space and plenty of things for everyone to do. All four of us will be back again, that's for sure.Well done on presenting a most beautiful home, in one of the most magical spots in the world. Can’t rave on too much here ‘cos this place will book out fast and we will possibly never get a spot here again.... but really...If you're on this page reading this, just start booking, you won't regret it. We stayed here for a week in December of '09 and I'd highly recommend it to others. Hanalei is gorgeous and the house was perfect --spacious, well-stocked, extremely clean and new, safe for young children, and wonderfully close (just a few minutes walk) to the beach!

The pictures do not do this place justice!! This home is absolutely beautiful. Comfortable, versatile, and fit our family perfectly!! It felt like we were the first people to ever stay in this immaculate home. Only a few houses to the beach, a few blocks to town, quiet, comfortable, and great for kids, parents, and anyone who just wants to enjoy the beauty and splendor of Hanalei. Can't wait to come back again :)
