Ca de l'Üga Dulza means 'House of the Sweet Grape' in the local dialect of Lezzeno, a small town just south of Bellagio. Enjoy the sweet life from your perch on the hillside overlooking the dazzling scenery. Villa Ca de l'Üga Dulza is beautifully appointed with exposed-beam ceilings, stylish custom-made furnishings, high-end linens and modern amenities (including free WiFi access). Each of the two bedrooms boasts a comfortable designer queen bed and ample wardrobe, as well as a built-in handmade desk area of Italian walnut. The back bedroom has an adjacent en-suite bathroom with shower, and the second bath off the front hallway boasts an oversized shower, and a view of the lake. The living room offers both a balcony and a comfortable sofa for watching movies or listening to music on your iPod-ready home theater system as you relax after a long day of sightseeing ... or food tasting and wine sipping!
SPORTS & OUTDOORS: Sports enthusiasts and other athletically inclined souls will be overwhelmed by the scope of activities available. Spectacular hiking trails include the Strada Regia (the ancient Roman 'Royal Road'), which passes just outside our doors and stretches from the edges of Bellagio to Como, as well as countless others looping around the surrounding mountains and sloping shores. A short walk down to the water makes it possible to take advantage of water skiing or wakeboard lessons with world champions through the local water-sports organization. Bike or kayak rentals are also available for those who prefer to adventure independently. Organized biking and horseback outings are available through companies in Bellagio.
DINING & SHOPPING: Those with a more gustatory bent will revel in the many fine restaurants, charming wine bars, and small shops selling local specialties. (Not to mention the gelaterias.) And, of course, there are dozens of small shops full of treasures in nearby Bellagio or Como for those looking to find the perfect souvenirs for themselves or special gifts for friends and family.
WINE TASTING: The nearby Valtellina (full-bodied reds and elegant whites) and Franciacorta (sparkling) wine regions make fantastic wines. Many participate in the Open Winery weekend at the end of May, Glasses of Stars in mid-August, Harvest Welcome in September, San Martino day tastings and food pairings, and Christmas in Cantina in December.

This is a beautiful little apartment, perfectly appointed with every convenience and a stunning view of the lake. We stayed with another couple and it was just perfect and very comfortable. The owners were very helpful and had a binder with all the touring information. Every adventure and restaurant they recommended we loved! I only wish we had stayed longer than 3 nights....next time we will!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We arrived in the middle of the night and were thankful for the owners great directions. The apartment impressed us as soon as we arrived. The quality and thoughfulness of the furnishings couldn't be better. When we woke up in the morning to the view it took our breath away! Our only mistake was not staying longer. Kate provided more information about the area than anywhere else we stayed in Europe, and by far the most comfortable of the apartments we rented.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: I'm so happy that you all enjoyed your stay. We're sorry not to have met you while you were here, but glad that everything worked out with the directions and area information -- and that the road in didn't give you too much pause at that hour (those West Virginia mountains must have been good practice indeed)!

We stayed in the upstairs apartment in October and it worked out perfectly for two couples. The apartment is beautiful with all of the amenities that you could want. The view from the apartment is absolutely fantastic and Kate and Nic have made staying there a wondful experience --the drive up to the building is alittle challenging but that is half the fun and you can't get a better location/view. There is a wonderful walking path that leads back down to the main road and water front. The kitchen has anything you need --we cooked a least one meal each day and ate either on the the terrace or at the table looking out over the lake. Easy to take the ferry around the lake or drive up to Bellagio. We highly recommend!!! Thank you Kate and Nic for allowing us to use your wonderful place.Did you find this review helpful? What an absolutely fantastic time we had in Lezzeno on the shores of Lake Como. Kate was an exquisite hostess and thought of everything from prestocking the fridge to taking us down to a great little restaurant and then picking us up when we were ready to come back. Gated parking, lovely, modern amenities, super views, comfortable beds and quiet. Can't find fault with anything. Five stars, no six!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Waking up early the first morning before all the others, I stumbled out on to the deck facing west over our small village of Lezzeno to Lake Como. Just at that moment the utter silence was broken by the sounding of the 7am church bell down below and as if choreographed, a cocaphony of birds burst into the air and as if on cue the ferry from Mezzegra slowed to a crawl right in front of me and slid into the dock in the town below. The air was crystal clear and the lake narrow enough to see the Isola Comacina to the left and Villa Balbianello on the right jutting out photo perfect from a heavily wooded peninsula. We spent five glorious days at this precious villa, which far exceeded our expectations both in amenities and location. The photos on the VRBO website simply don't do it justice-and we were pleasantly surprised by the thoughtfully stocked refrigerator and the bottle of local wine that our landlords left for us, not to mention all the local information carefully laid out for anyone who is interested in exploration. We hiked the 'greenway' across the lake from Cadenabbia to Mezzegra, as well as several trails above our compound leading to the picturesque Madonna del Sasso church. We spent a day roaming Bellagio and then taking the ferries on a special pass to several locations on either side of the lake. From Bellagio on another day, we also drove the car onto a ferry which took us to Cadenabbia, Lake Como's gateway to Lake Lugano and Switzerland just up in the mountains above. You really need a car, but driving in this part of Italy is a particular challange as the roads are Lilliputian and not for the faint of heart. The local produce and lake fish are a delight if you are one that likes to prepare your own meals at home-this kitchen is very well equipt; we even asked for a blender and they dutifully supplied it the next day. Restaurants in the area are consistantly good and prices mid to high with the poor exchange rate of the dollar to the euro. This place is for the romantic, adventure seekers who are not afraid to explore this exceptional region by car.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We just recently returned from a weeks vacation and just loved the apartment. The views were amazing and the apartment was more than I expected. Beautiful bathrooms, very clean and comfortable. The views were incredible. It was in a great location and close to Bellagio and the ferries to take you to the other towns around the lake. We had dinner a few times at the Hotel Aurora, just down the road, and the food was wonderful.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our stay at this home. The view was amazing and the property was very nice with beautiful bathrooms and everything you could want. The owners provided wine, pasta, breakfast items etc. to get you thru your first day. The Hotel Aurora at the bottom of the hill had wonderful food. The road was steep, but after the first time it wasn't a problem and made you feel like you were living the Italian way and being on the hill afforded you an amazing view that you wouldn't have otherwise.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Those last few meters of road can definitely be a challenge for the uninitiated. We're glad the majority of people seem to feel that the comfort of the property and its beautiful view over the lake are worth the sometimes hair-raising drive!

While looking for places to stay in Bellagio, I came across a website for Ca de l’Uga Dulza which is located in the quaint village of Lezzeno, approximately 5 miles from Bellagio. After quite a bit of correspondence with Kate, all was in order and our trip was finalized. She was always quick to answer any correspondence sent and answered all of the questions we asked. Ca de l’Uga Dulza is located up a small winding road with not much past the point of the apartment. Due to its high location, it is extremely quiet, a perfect place to relax. We rented the two apartments on the top floor, which included a balcony off of one of the bedrooms and a balcony off of the living space. We had seen the photos of the apartments on the website, and can tell you, they do not do justice to the beauty of the view and the beauty of the apartments. Kate has done an incredible job of decorating. She had fresh flowers on the dining table, fresh herbs to use for cooking, a well stocked refrigerator (juice, milk, eggs, bread, cheese, etc.), a fully stocked kitchen and a nice bottle of wine for our arrival. Everything we needed in a kitchen was there. The bedrooms are of a very nice size and the bathrooms (along with slippers and robes) are wonderful. Truly, Kate and Nico have thought of everything. We would definitely stay at Ca de l’Uga Dulza again should our travels take us back to the Lake Como area.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm always glad to answer any and all questions beforehand as I want potential renters to have a clear idea of what they can expect from the property. Our elevated position off the beaten path, yet within easy reach of Bellagio and the center-lake area, makes the apartment ideal for those travelers seeking peace and tranquility without sacrificing convenience. And while it probably means our photos need to be redone, we'd certainly prefer to have guests "wowed" in person upon arrival than to hear that they drooled over the pictures from afar! (Just to clarify, this lovely group of Texans stayed in the two-bedroom upstairs apartment as described above. The reference to "two" apartments stems from the fact that they came in through our independent Web site, which is structured differently.)

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Originally from California, I lived in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts before moving to Italy for nine years.
Why the Owner Chose Lezzeno:
I fell in love with Lake Como from the moment I first arrived in 2003.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
I love Lezzeno because it's close and convenient to the central lake area (being adjacent to Bellagio), but not directly in the thick of things when the summer crowds descend. It's a small village (though the longest on the lake at 7 km end-to-end), full of hard-working residents, most of whom have lived here since birth. While most of Bellagio runs on tourism, Lezzeno is powered by its numerous artisans and tiny ground-floor factories. In my biased opinion, the apartment has the most beautiful perspective on the lake, directly across from the only island as well as the stunning Villa Balbianello (a frequent film location and one of the world's perfect spots for a summer aperitivo) and high enough up the hill to keep road noise to a bare minimum while panoramas are maximized. Because the apartment was originally conceived as a home away from home for close friends and family (as well as my own hideout when I need a quiet place to write), I spent a great deal of time striving to make it as welcoming and comfortable as possible.
