Designed by a Roman architect and has repeatedly praised in magazines as an architectural work of art that is nestled in the rock and the villa is perched high above the Gulf of Policastro, surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation. The terraces offer a panoramic view of the house, the visitor literally steals the breath away. Views range of green mountains, the fishing village of Scario, the Bay of Policastro to Calabria. The Villa Il Gabbiano is divided into the main house and an outbuilding, possibly the fifth for an accompanying and 6 Person can be hired. The main house has two bedrooms each with private bath (shower / bidet / toilet) and a large kitchen. A small path leads from the main house to the annexe, which has a room with two single beds, a small terrace with two chairs and a table and a private bathroom (shower / WC / bidet). You can park your car on the fenced grounds of the cottage
The concern of the architects was to the Villa Il Gabbiano not integrate as an intruder in nature, but as a harmonious complement to the Cilento fauna and flora in the landscape. The property manager spoke no English so it was very difficult to get any information about the house, or ask any questions regarding our stay. One shower did not drain and perfect example of not being able to call PM to explain problem. Lovely views, but really would not be suitable inside for larger group as the kitchen dining area is cramped. Although they say in add that heating will be charged "on the spot" they do not tell you price....we used a small amount( still not sure if it was for cooking too) as we only turned on 1 heater to dry out house a little and were charged for 20 units at price of 5.10 euros per unit!!! a big surprise in price and I think over the top. Also, strangely we were "motioned" to turn off gas to stove every night before we went to sleep?! Again could not understand why and could get no explanation. The Dependance, though lovely was musty/mildewy smelling and never really got better through stay. Lots of stairs, not really suitable for anyone who cannot walk alot of stairs. Finally did write owners who did respond, but not to our satisfaction.Owner response: Dear Robin, we are glad that you enjoyed generally your stay in the Cilento area. Thus, in Southern Italy it is allowed to turn on the heating for only a few hours on winter days. Odours may, just like at home, emerge anytime and anywhere, while we or the proprietor are unable to influence this. Even the siphon of your bathroom at home sometimes “gives off” unpleasant odours during certain weather conditions. In southern countries with different sanitary and sewage standards such problems are much more frequent. They are not a sign of insufficient cleaning, draining or sewage removal and usually can be eliminated by some good will and heavy airing. We estimate our guests as being flexible and open-minded. Therefore they know that almost nothing can be like it is at home. This applies to all standards like construction standards, staircases, windows, door locks, handrails, sanitary and electric installations, size and measure. But this also applies to public life, which in southern countries especially in the summertime usually takes place outdoors – Italy-enthusiasts highly value this. "Das Haus hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Wir hatten einen herrlichen Blick über die Bucht von Policastro. Sowohl die Natur an der Seeseite, als auch im Landesinneren war wunderbar. Teilweise noch sehr ursprünglich, was uns eben sehr gut gefallen hat. Wir haben eine Schwäche für Italien und mögen es einfach mal dem Alltag zu entfliehen, was uns hier sehr gut gelungen ist. "Die Lage der Unterkunft über dem Golf von Policastro hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Die Umgebung war geprägt von schönen Städten und Dörfern am Meer. Ein sehr schönes Erlebnis für uns war der Besuch der Kartause von Padula - eine beeindruckende Anlage. Besonders der milde Herbst ist ein Grund, um wieder dorthin zu fahren." "Besonders gut gefallen haben uns die Lage des Hauses mit traumhaftem Garten und die sehr persönliche Einrichtung, die uns an den wenigen Regentagen sehr geholfen hat, uns wohl zu fühlen. Die Villa Il Gabbiano war das beste Haus, das wir jemals von Ihnen gemietet haben. Die Ärzte beim Pronto Soccorso in Sapri, deren Hilfe wir leider einmal in Anspruch nehmen mussten, waren sehr freundlich. Die Signora Garofano war in dieser Hinsicht besonders hilfreich, aber auch in der Betreuuung des Hauses sehr sehr zuvorkommend und nett. Wir haben uns schon vor 12 Jahren in den Cilento verliebt und werden immer wieder hierher fahren, solange unsere Gesundheit das zulässt." "Ein schöner Urlaub! Die Menschen sind freundlich, die Küste ist wunderschön, außerdem ist es hier noch nicht so überlaufen wie in anderen Regionen. Die Villa Il Gabbiano ist wirklich toll, besonders der Garten. Von dem herrlichen Blick über die Bucht ganz zu schweigen! Die Region eignet sich bestens zum Wandern - unser Tipp: Wanderung von San Giovanni a Piro bis runter zur Küste. Auch empfehlenswert: Wandern an der Bussentoschlucht.
