Take a trip down memory lane when you come stay in this nostalgic vacation home nestled in historic downtown Charlottetown. With all the comforts of home, School Street House provides a genuine one-of-a-kind holiday experience that you just can’t get anywhere else. Happily situated in Canada’s loveliest little province of Prince Edward Island, School Street House feels just like your favourite Aunt’s place!
Night at the Museum: School Street House is not only a guest house, it is a living museum filled with stories, historic photographs and artifacts. Some vintage treasures for music enthusiasts include a 1936 model Hammond BC organ with a Leslie 125, an 1880’s Thomas pump organ and a 1940’s record player. The furnishings and floorings date between 1900-1960 and antique china displays adorn period cabinets. School Street House is an honest to goodness old-time dwelling steeped in history and preserved since the turn of the last century.
School Street House is a House with a Heart as Mark Twain spoke of his beloved home in 1896, ' 'We never came home from an absence that it's face did not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome -- and we could not enter it unmoved.'
Like a Message in a Bottle: Children's signatures discovered on an old plaster wall behind a hundred years of paint and wallpaper revealed that School Street House was the 1904 birthplace and childhood home of world renowned marine botanist, Dr. Constance Ida MacFarlane. Dr. MacFarlane is credited with putting PEI on the map as the “Irish Moss capital of the world.” Irish moss, a form of seaweed, is a major source of carrageenan, commonly used as a thickener and stabilizer in processed foods and products, including ice cream, beer, wine and toothpaste.
Comforts of Home & More!: Having your very own centrally located three bedroom vacation house is perfect for folks who prefer their own special spot. Fully equipped and serviced, School Street House has all the necessities plus high-speed internet connection, free local telephone calls & messaging system, cooking/dining utensils, linens/blankets/towels, main floor laundry washer & dryer, iron and ironing board, old-fashioned outdoor clothes line, tv/dvd, stereo, record player, barbeque, picnic table, lawn chairs, private treed yard, off-street parking, house/groundskeeping service and 24 hour staffing as required.
Strictly non-smoking & no pets property. Sorry, no exceptions possible.

It's like going back in time to a quieter, more relaxed world. A lovely home, lovingly maintained - and a unique experience. Within easy walking distance of downtown and The Charlottetown Festival, it was a bit like walking from one world into another. I was made to feel completely welcome and I would happily return the next time I'm in Charlottetown. I would highly recommend it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I would recommend School Street House to anyone who will be in the Charlottetown area in the near future. It is clean and spacious and its like a trip back through time. Each room has the feel of a different era in PEI history. Our family had a relaxing stay and the hospitality was second to none. I can't really say enough good things about it, but I will include 1 more: location, location, location!! 5 stars! Drew Davis Connecticut, USADid you find this review helpful? Truly a home away from home. My stay at School Street House was too short, but so sweet. As a first time visitor to PEI, I can hardly imagine a more idyllic retreat that mirrors the warmth and charm of the island. My next visit to PEI will be longer, and I look forward to sharing this little gem of a place with my husband.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our stay at School Street felt like going to vacation at your favourite aunt's! Everything from the crisp, clean space to the well preserved and tasteful furnishings and classic instruments are there to be enjoyed. Tom and Diane, the owners, live next door and went out of their way to make our stay perfect, and being within walking distance from the downtown nightlife on a quiet street made our stay stress free and so relaxing. I can't wait to go back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A walk through time. Lovely spot to settle after a day of sightseeing and walking around the city. Everything works wonderfully, and the ambiance of the house is such that it puts one at ease the moment you walk in. Will be back again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Wow, Our stay at School Street House was fantastic. staying in a museum is so very interesting. We loved the clean and beautiful accommodations, as well as the friendly people. Vacationing in PEI had a new twist for us being based in Charolette Town. We got to enjoy all the urban attractions and were still close enough to hit the beach at Cavendish and tour Green Gables (for the 3rd time :)) My entire family would recommend School Street House to anyone planning to visit PEI. Thank you for enriching our experience by providing such a pretty and compelling environment for us. We give it an A+ rating! We will be back! Dave and Celeste PittDid you find this review helpful? Walk into School Street House and be transported back in time by furniture, organs, radios, and decor that could have furnished the home of a beloved great aunt. Diane hopes for guests who “have a heart for the place,” and a “heart for history.” She says, “It feels like walking into yesteryear.” Diane loves to leave history as is, unrenovated, but she can’t help digging around, stirring up the stories in the walls—from finding a signature on the wall of School Street House that led her to the history of Dr. Constance MacFarlane, the renowned marine botanist who was born in the home, to writing a musical set on PEI and inspired by an advertisement from 1907.Did you find this review helpful? The School Street House is all you ned to begin your unavoidable "sink" into the history and beauty of Canada's P.E.I. Its warm welcoming owners, along with the feel, comfort of Grandma's place complete with retro style amenities, is a great way to begin your visit. With a warm house hug, you are transcended into a feeling of quiet, reassuring satisfaction of finally being on holiday and away from it all. You'll have fun noticing all the knick-knacks and carefully chosen collectibles/antiques and be intrigued by their origin. In particular, "my" bedroom, the Back One, quietly displays a framed picture of signatures from the long past homeowners that I spet time very night before retiring wondering what they were like and who they were. Tom and Diane are generous and gracious hosts, eager to please, completely aware of their responsibilities as such. You won't want to leave. A sure thumbs up and will be back soon! 5 out of 5!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
