Harstine Island is located 16 miles from Shelton, a peaceful little town located between Highways 101 and 3 on the Olympic Peninsula. Harstine Island is the third largest island in the South Sound (after Vashon and Bainbridge) consisting of 40 square miles with 30 miles of shoreline. The island is non-commercial and rural with dense forestation and abundant wildlife.
Located on a quiet cove, our cabin is a place to let your cares slip away. You will love the old fashioned romance of the antique filled cabin on 5 beautiful acres. Two sets of French doors open to a covered porch. From the porch rockers or the porch table and chairs you can watch the tides rise, blue herons take wing and otters pop their heads up to peer at you. Your own private deck with a gas bar-b-que and table and chairs overlooking the saltwater cove.
Peaceful accommodations with spectacular views. Rest awhile on a garden bench or on one of 3 large decks overlooking the Puget Sound and the snow capped Olympic Mountains.
Complimentary treats frequently appear-scones with homemade jams, hot cookies, muffins, cheese and crackers--whatever the weather or season inspires.

Quiet and Relaxing

Guest: Laurie (Maple Valley, WA)
Date of Stay: 10/07/11 Review Submitted: 11/17/11

The cabin was just what we were looking for, a quiet and relaxing weekend escape. There was more than enough space for the two of us, much more than a hotel room. The furniture, especially the beds were very comfortable. When we arrived, there were fresh eggs in the fridge and homemade cookies on the counter. The next day, Judy gave us homemade apple strudel and the second day delicious fresh baked muffins. She even gave us some homemade plum jam to take home, along with our fresh picked oysters. While the cabin is on the property of Judy and Mike, it still felt very private and they were never intrusive. The homemade goodies were a much appreciated bonus and Judy even took the time to send me her recipes that I asked for. The only drawbacks were that it was about 20 minutes from Shelton so next time I would bring my own groceries. While the cabin is on the water, there is not a water view from inside the cabin. If you are looking for quiet, this is the place to go, and the hospitality of Judy and Mike is wonderful.

Cozy Cobin

Our family wanted a quick getaway from Portland. This is the perfect Puget Sound getaway. When you arrive, you are welcomed with Judy's fresh baked goods and fresh eggs from her own chickens. The views are stunning! The property is beautiful. We enjoyed nearby hikes in the forest down to the water. The nearby town offered a delicious bakery and artisan grocery and deli with very good pizzas. The cabin is perfect! From the wood stove to the well stocked kitchen to the very comfortable beds and linens, it's pure relaxation.

We usually like to plan ahead for our weekend trips but this time we didn't have time. The owners of this wonderful cabin were gracious enough to accomodate us on very short notice. We would have been happy with most any decent lodging at this point but when we arrived, we found a wonderful surprise. The setting is magical and the owners have kept the place impeccable with ample stocking of foods. We fully enjoyed out time and loved the beauty of the site. You have privacy and yet you feel welcomed. Lots of room and a full kitchen-bath with plenty of towels - all needs taken care of.

What a Charmer

Guest: BJ (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 05/06/11 Review Submitted: 05/14/11

We could not have been happier with our four-night stay at this cabin. It's absolutely charming and cozy and yet has all possible amenities. It was raining when we were there, so didn't get to enjoy the decks, but it was certainly lovely weather for the wood stove! Judy seems to think of everything. Cozy robes, a well-stocked cupboard of staples (lucky for me, as I did forget the olive oil), hand lotion, lots of DVD's and books and magazines and games. And then, of course, there are her fabulous scones and eggs from her hens. She's a truly welcoming and gracious hostess....yet never intrusive. The only caveat: The beach is only easily accessed at low tide and then it's a little muddy and mucky. Great for clams and oysters, but not quite what we had in mind for us and the dog.

Peaceful

Guest: Sandy & Paul (Seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 12/03/10 Review Submitted: 12/06/10

My husband and I celebrated our 18th anniversary with our two dogs at the Harstine cabin. It was warm, cozy and quite charming, decorated with antique collectibles right out of "Country Living" magazine. Very quite and peaceful. The only sounds - the crackling fire in the woodstove and windchime on the deck. The owners do live nearby, so it's not totally secluded. But Judy brought us homemade goodies each morning (warm scones and a pumpkin roll to die for) and she and Mike made us feel right at home. They have two friendly border collies and kindly kept them at bay when we explained one of our dogs was not dog-friendly. We unexpectedly found oysters on the beach and had ourselves an oyster bake on the barbeque (despite the December weather). We cancelled our dinner reservations at a local seafood restaurant, since we couldn't imagine the oysters tasting much fresher than from your own backyard! You won't find more friendly and accommodating hosts than Mike and Judy!
