We wanted a relaxing winter cabin to stay at (without the risk of getting stuck on the wrong side of a snowed in pass), and we got it for two nights! Comfortable and cute furnishings, everything was clean, well appointed kitchen, you would need two months to view all the videos, real nice wood stove, comfy chairs to read in by the fire, endless firewood, big porch, beautiful saltwater inlet on the property with clams (cabin comes with rubber boots - parts of beach are muddy), closet full of games (rats - we discovered this only when we were packing to leave). We will return! Owners are very, very nice - made us feel very welcome. Reason we did not give 5-star is there is really nothing to do other than hang out at the cabin! Hardly a problem, but we like to go for brisk walks - and the beach is not suited for that and a quarter mile up the dirt driveway some dogs barked at us so we retreated to avoid a confrontation. To end on a good note, shortly after we arrived the owner delivered a plate of piping hot cookies to our door, and the next morning a plate of warm, fresh scones arrived with home made honey butter and jam - talk about a personal touch, nicely done Judy!

Our family wanted a quick getaway from Portland. This is the perfect Puget Sound getaway. When you arrive, you are welcomed with Judy's fresh baked goods and fresh eggs from her own chickens. The views are stunning! The property is beautiful. We enjoyed nearby hikes in the forest down to the water. The nearby town offered a delicious bakery and artisan grocery and deli with very good pizzas. The cabin is perfect! From the wood stove to the well stocked kitchen to the very comfortable beds and linens, it's pure relaxation.

The cabin was just what we were looking for, a quiet and relaxing weekend escape. There was more than enough space for the two of us, much more than a hotel room. The furniture, especially the beds were very comfortable. When we arrived, there were fresh eggs in the fridge and homemade cookies on the counter. The next day, Judy gave us homemade apple strudel and the second day delicious fresh baked muffins. She even gave us some homemade plum jam to take home, along with our fresh picked oysters. While the cabin is on the property of Judy and Mike, it still felt very private and they were never intrusive. The homemade goodies were a much appreciated bonus and Judy even took the time to send me her recipes that I asked for. The only drawbacks were that it was about 20 minutes from Shelton so next time I would bring my own groceries. While the cabin is on the water, there is not a water view from inside the cabin. If you are looking for quiet, this is the place to go, and the hospitality of Judy and Mike is wonderful.

We usually like to plan ahead for our weekend trips but this time we didn't have time. The owners of this wonderful cabin were gracious enough to accomodate us on very short notice. We would have been happy with most any decent lodging at this point but when we arrived, we found a wonderful surprise. The setting is magical and the owners have kept the place impeccable with ample stocking of foods. We fully enjoyed out time and loved the beauty of the site. You have privacy and yet you feel welcomed. Lots of room and a full kitchen-bath with plenty of towels - all needs taken care of.

We could not have been happier with our four-night stay at this cabin. It's absolutely charming and cozy and yet has all possible amenities. It was raining when we were there, so didn't get to enjoy the decks, but it was certainly lovely weather for the wood stove! Judy seems to think of everything. Cozy robes, a well-stocked cupboard of staples (lucky for me, as I did forget the olive oil), hand lotion, lots of DVD's and books and magazines and games. And then, of course, there are her fabulous scones and eggs from her hens. She's a truly welcoming and gracious hostess....yet never intrusive. The only caveat: The beach is only easily accessed at low tide and then it's a little muddy and mucky. Great for clams and oysters, but not quite what we had in mind for us and the dog.

My husband and I celebrated our 18th anniversary with our two dogs at the Harstine cabin. It was warm, cozy and quite charming, decorated with antique collectibles right out of "Country Living" magazine. Very quite and peaceful. The only sounds - the crackling fire in the woodstove and windchime on the deck. The owners do live nearby, so it's not totally secluded. But Judy brought us homemade goodies each morning (warm scones and a pumpkin roll to die for) and she and Mike made us feel right at home. They have two friendly border collies and kindly kept them at bay when we explained one of our dogs was not dog-friendly. We unexpectedly found oysters on the beach and had ourselves an oyster bake on the barbeque (despite the December weather). We cancelled our dinner reservations at a local seafood restaurant, since we couldn't imagine the oysters tasting much fresher than from your own backyard! You won't find more friendly and accommodating hosts than Mike and Judy!

Judy surprised us with her homemade Irish scones that were incrediable! It was so beautiful, inside and outside I took over 100 pictures. Hope to return very soon to "Our Cabin". Thank you Mike and Judy for providing a beautiful place at a reasonable price. We definitely made new friends!

What an awesome time I had at Ms Judy's cabin! I was in need of some major rest and relaxation and this spot was just what was needed. Quiet, peaceful, comfortable. The cove is beautiful and there is plenty to go and do if you so choose. I recommend this as a nice romantic getaway as well as a nice place to spend time reading or sitting on the decks or rocking on the front porch. My fiance' joined me and had a great time as well. We recommend the Kobe restaraunt in Shelton. Great chinese food as well as sushi. This cabin provides everything you need for a good relaxing getaway.

My wife and I (and our dog) spent 3 nights at the cabin and we had a wonderful time. We enjoyed digging for Oysters & Clams and enjoyed the wonderful and calming views. The hosts (Judy and Mike) were very nice and welcoming. We really enjoyed the quiet area. There are no other houses around. Great time to bond with your travel companions. The facilities were clean and had all of the amenities we needed. We did our grocery shopping on the way which is advisable as this place is fairly remote and the closest grocery store is about 30 minutes away. The host does have little things (like butter etc) if you forget them. The home cooked muffins etc were a treat. The place is fairly high up on a cliff and several stair are required to go down to the beach. We can easily see us returning again!

The cabin is a perfect get away in the wilderness and water environment that was only topped by Judy’s homemade goodies. The cabin is today’s builders dream with touches of days gone by and rocking chairs on the porch to relax and unwind. The scenery was breathtaking and peaceful. What a heavenly experience.

My boyfriend, my self and our two labs had a fantastic time at your cabin. The cabin is so homey and comfortable, and stocked with all amenities, Americana collectables and entertainment, making even a rainy day or two very enjoyable. We loved that the walk down to the cove and beach for oysters and clams only took a couple minutes. Our dogs were ecstatic to be able to run and play in the water, on the beach and throughout the foliage unleashed. The views are incredible from the beach and multiple decks found with in the yard. . Judy and Mike are very friendly and hospitable; they provided us equipment and helpful tips for claming and oyster collection. But one of the truly unique extras was the scrumptious carrot cake that Judy baked and had waiting in the refrig for us when we arrived; it was the best I have ever had. On our way home we talked about how we can't wait to go back later this summer so we can enjoy meals outside on the decks and hang out at night by the fire pit. Thanks again Judy & Mike for your hospitality and for opening up your cabin to us and our two dogs (Raiden & Charlie); it’s pretty darn hard to find a nice vacation rental that allows large dogs and we really appreciate it. Kindest Regards, Ali & Doug

The house was cozy and had all of the amenities we could need. The proximity to the water was great and we took walks on the beach every day. Judy's cookies and scones were amazing and made our already lovely stay even more enjoyable. We highly recommend the cabin and we hope to visit again in the future!

I must echo the sentiments of those posted before mine. Mike and Judy went beyond the call of duty in making us feel warmly welcome by bringing by homemade goodies every morning, watching the sun set with us on their deck and giving us private time when we needed it. The setting is lovely and all needs were accounted for with a washer/dryer, plenty of linens, etc. I would not hesitate to recommend their property for any reason other than the fact that it is rather isolated so if you want to walk to shopping, entertainment, etc. you cannot. The privacy factor only added to the appeal for us.

My wife and I, along with our two children (12 and 9), just spent a week in the cabin, and the only negative was that we had to leave. The cabin, the setting, Mike and Judy...everything about it was fantastic. We spent at least part of most days in the lagoon and on the beach collecting our dinner (clams, crabs, and oysters), then to the raspberry patch for a snack. We also dragged ourselves away a few times to explore the island and locale, including the southern bits of Olympic N.P. The cabin itself is very comfortable, cheerfully and thoughtfully appointed, and very well maintained. Mike and Judy couldn't have been better hosts, doing their very best to spoil us. We are already trying to figure out how and when we can make a return visit.

Peggy and I spent 7 days at the cabin. It was a wonderful time. For less than the price of a decent motel you get the little vacation cabin that you always fantasized about. Actually this is a better deal than your own vacation cabin. You only pay for it the days that you use it. The beach in front on the cabin yielded oysters that are perfect for the barby. The views of Pickering Passage are spectacular. The boat launch is about 3 miles away and you can launch/retrieve at low tide. Mike and Judy are great hosts and they do not invade your privacy. Judy's raspberry jam and strawberry shortcake with whipped cream were wonderful--also the fresh eggs. Absolutely everything was provided, as promised--it was a quaint and cute country cabin.

This is a truly wonderful property. The cabin is laid out so efficiently and is so roomy, it's easy to forget it's one bedroom. It is not only equipped with everything you might need, it's decorated with all kinds of cool vintage 'stuff', which gives it a personality all its own - far different from other impersonal rentals. The property is PERFECT if you're looking for some peace & quiet - it's an oasis of sky and water on heavily forested Harstene Island - but it's also not far from some interesting places to go & see so you needn't feel like you're too far from civilization. Judy and Mike treated us like royalty and made us feel as if we'd been specially invited. We are definitely coming back. Go here, and take your dog! Our dogs had the time of their lives. I could go on...but in brief, it's just a wonderful place.

What a great, little cabin. If you want to "get away from it all," this is your place. The owners have created a fantastic atmosphere, with wildflowers, wild life (nothing dangerous), and the most amazing use of antiques and old throwaways you've ever seen (like a greenhouse made of old windows or a garden surrounded by antique metal bed frames). This really is a great place to relax. Plus, the view from the porch at the main house is not only gorgeous, but incredibly peaceful. And you can't beat the hospitality. We have stayed in this lovely Harstine Island cabin many times over the past 15 years. Each time has been more wonderful than the previous time. You won't find another area or another cabin to equal it. The Callaghans are gracious "hosts" and thrive on nature and natural surroundings. They give more than they ever receive. And when you leave their island hideaway, you will have new friends. I assure you you will go back again and again...as we do. So make your reservations and then start getting excited.
