See our extensive web site & YouTube video of all of our cabins by clicking scrolling down this page past RATE DETAILS and CHECK CALENDAR to LINKS TO MORE INFORMATION located at the bottom of this page. Not all vacation rentals are alike. Our cabins are owned and maintained by us. If you need us, we are here for you.
This is worth considering, because nothing is worse than having a problem and calling a long-distance property owner. We know, because it happens up here all the time at cabins with out-of-area owners who don't know their place lost its water heater or the toilet is backed up or skunks moved in below.
Sow's Ear is a 3BR/2BA cabin with wood stove, full laundry and kitchen. It's our only cabin of six that is not directly on the Trinity River, but it's only a minute's walk down the drive and you have full use of our 600+ feet of riverfront, complete with hammocks, chairs, BBQs, a shaded dining set AND hot tub overlooking the river. You can see and hear the river from the living room, porch and the "Rustic" and "Honeysuckle" bedrooms. The Sanctuary room that looks out on the rosemary garden and forest was remodeled in 2011 and completely paneled in cedar tongue & groove.
Bucktail put-in is across the river and up a few hundred yards. Sow's Ear has proven to be a very popular cabin for fishers, who tie their boats off to the trees overnight. It is end-of-the-road quiet and peaceful.
Sow's Ear has a full kitchen with a new gas cooktop and everything you could need for cooking (if not, we'll loan it to you); there is a cozy wood stove with firewood, as well as a Monitor heater; and it has a washer and dryer. A good selection of books awaits you. Wi-fi is available, though it can be sketchy. You may use our computer for internet access if necessary.
The Trinity is a 30 second walk from your cabin. You can dine overlooking the river, lounge in the hammocks, or fish from the shore. We give great kayak lessons in front of our cabin and launch there for raft and kayak trips. We are very dog-friendly with friendly dogs, and you can take your dogs with you on kayak or raft adventures!
Michael Caranci of The Fly Shop in Redding says of our cabins:
"For sheer seclusion, access, and cozy, comfortable accommodations, the cabins at the Trinity River Adventure Inn are certainly among the best."

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2005
Steph Dutton is a world-renowned kayaker who paddled from Canada to Mexico, then paddled the Oregon coast again, in the winter. He also circumnavigated California's Channel Islands, often enduring thirty foot seas.
Heidi Tiura owned and ran several businesses before running away to sea and working on tug boats in Alaska, Washington and Oregon.
Steph and Heidi are both Coast Guard licensed masters, and creators of Sanctuary Cruises on the Monterey Bay. They have been featured in numerous books and documentaries for their work with whales (including National Geographic's "Whale Attack," which was based on their Mother's Day 2004 whale watching cruise).
Now, they live on the upper Trinity River and their kayak adventures are of a tamer sort. When not rafting or kayaking with their guests, they can usually be found on their motorcycles, because Trinity County has the best roads for riding bikes.
Why the Owner Chose Lewiston
Trinity County has the unbeatable combination of great natural beauty, incredible recreation opportunities, and it hasn't been overrun by tourists. People who have come here for twenty years remark at how little has changed. It is a spectacular place to explore.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Being on the river has to be one of the most relaxing things there is up here. Whether you fish, paddle, want to try the rope swing into the swimming hole, or just sit and watch the fish swim by, it is a wonderful escape to have a cabin right on the water (Alpen Glow, Miner's, Carriage House) or darn close to it with full use of our riverfront (Sow's Ear).

We stayed for 3 nights at the sow's ear and had a great time. We had a group of 4 Anglers up here for a Steelhead trip in Feb. and we arrived late to find the house was warmed by a blazing fire and all the lights were on. The owner was there to meet us (he lives next door) and was happy to provide any help we needed. He even heated the hot-tub up for our arrival! The place was clean, well stocked and perfect for our group. Everybody commented what a great find this was for us. I will never stay anywhere else when I am up here! I am sure their other accommodations are equally as nice! My compliments to the owner's who understand the value of going the extra mile for their guests! Sean San Anselmo, CA
Owner response:How kind! When our guests arrive late, we try to make sure they have a cheery place waiting for them, regardless of their ETA. It's always great hearing they appreciated their cabin and how they were treated. We're thrilled that Sean and his party liked Sow's Ear so much, and know they will also flip when they see our other river cabins, however Sow's Ear has just gotten some nice upgrades such as a new gas cooktop on the kitchen.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

[This email is from one of 6 guys who were up here fishing this week. He and his partner had never fly-fished before and they did great, catching several fish each. They had to go back a day early, which explains the comments about the others.] Steph and Heidi, Thoroughly enjoyed your hospitality, meals and especially the quick response to fixing the cold H20 problem [a water heater went out] and herding the skunk families [this is the country!]. Adventures like that are what make the trip memorable, in a good way. Just about now you're probably serving breakfast to our group, who undoubtedly slept in. Speaking of breakfast, please do send your [strata] recipe, chicken [and oven-roasted vegetables], etc. Truly, just fabulous meals!! Take care and again thanks for everything. We went with our daughter and avid fisherman-son-in-law and their 2 children, 3 years old and 7 mos. old and their Golden Retriever and we filled up Sow’s Ear quite handily. It was great to be able to spread out to accommodate toys, naps (children’s and adult’s!), etc.It was nice having the kitchen to fix the baby’s bottle, etc., but it would be a very big mistake not to do the meal plan, as Heidi & Steph are phenomenal cooks, and I can guarantee you that when you meet them, you’re going to want to spend as much time with them as possible. They are multi-talented, multi-faceted, energetic, delightful, genuine, warm, really fabulous people. Heidi & Steph & the food were the highlights for me, but there was so much more. We took a wonderful walk, went to the bridge Christmas lighting ceremony in the small, atmospheric town of Lewiston, and went kayaking with excellent instruction—I’m hooked. And our son-in-law was able to do loads of fishing while we had fun with the children. The whole stay couldn’t have been more comfortable and fun. A return trip in the Spring is a MUST-I still want to go to wine tasting in the side car! I can hardly wait.Gail High, Brockway, Lake Tahoe, CA
