We stayed for 3 nights at the sow's ear and had a great time. We had a group of 4 Anglers up here for a Steelhead trip in Feb. and we arrived late to find the house was warmed by a blazing fire and all the lights were on. The owner was there to meet us (he lives next door) and was happy to provide any help we needed. He even heated the hot-tub up for our arrival! The place was clean, well stocked and perfect for our group. Everybody commented what a great find this was for us. I will never stay anywhere else when I am up here! I am sure their other accommodations are equally as nice! My compliments to the owner's who understand the value of going the extra mile for their guests! Sean San Anselmo, CA
Owner response:How kind! When our guests arrive late, we try to make sure they have a cheery place waiting for them, regardless of their ETA. It's always great hearing they appreciated their cabin and how they were treated. We're thrilled that Sean and his party liked Sow's Ear so much, and know they will also flip when they see our other river cabins, however Sow's Ear has just gotten some nice upgrades such as a new gas cooktop on the kitchen.

12/12/2008: "Our annual December Steelhead trip was a huge success - complete with lodging and hot tubbing at Sow's Ear, unbelievable gourmet meals and BIG angry fish. Steph and Heidi do it first-class all the way. We'll definitely be back!" Shanan Rosenberg/Head Basketball Coach Foothill College

[This email is from one of 6 guys who were up here fishing this week. He and his partner had never fly-fished before and they did great, catching several fish each. They had to go back a day early, which explains the comments about the others.] Steph and Heidi, Thoroughly enjoyed your hospitality, meals and especially the quick response to fixing the cold H20 problem [a water heater went out] and herding the skunk families [this is the country!]. Adventures like that are what make the trip memorable, in a good way. Just about now you're probably serving breakfast to our group, who undoubtedly slept in. Speaking of breakfast, please do send your [strata] recipe, chicken [and oven-roasted vegetables], etc. Truly, just fabulous meals!! Take care and again thanks for everything. We went with our daughter and avid fisherman-son-in-law and their 2 children, 3 years old and 7 mos. old and their Golden Retriever and we filled up Sow’s Ear quite handily. It was great to be able to spread out to accommodate toys, naps (children’s and adult’s!), etc.It was nice having the kitchen to fix the baby’s bottle, etc., but it would be a very big mistake not to do the meal plan, as Heidi & Steph are phenomenal cooks, and I can guarantee you that when you meet them, you’re going to want to spend as much time with them as possible. They are multi-talented, multi-faceted, energetic, delightful, genuine, warm, really fabulous people. Heidi & Steph & the food were the highlights for me, but there was so much more. We took a wonderful walk, went to the bridge Christmas lighting ceremony in the small, atmospheric town of Lewiston, and went kayaking with excellent instruction—I’m hooked. And our son-in-law was able to do loads of fishing while we had fun with the children. The whole stay couldn’t have been more comfortable and fun. A return trip in the Spring is a MUST-I still want to go to wine tasting in the side car! I can hardly wait.Gail High, Brockway, Lake Tahoe, CA

Thank you so much for the wonderful weekend. We had a great weekend staying at the quaint cabin on the river. Waking up in the morning, migrating to the porch swing while eating breakfast, lounging on the hammocks until lunch, kayaking a peaceful stretch of the Trinity, eating dinner with new friends and so much more... Steph and Heidi know how to make you feel at home and will go out of their way when you need anything extra. I recommend this B&B to any adventureist who may have kids or dogs." Rhys and I caught another three fish on the way out of town Monday morning. We drove away with big grins in the rear view mirrors. Also, I keep thinking back on our conversations as we got to know each other and your genuine spirit and kindness still lingers with me. Thank you; it was a pleasure. Judson Clark/Santa Cruz, CA

"Our host and hostess were about as hospitable as anyone could be who's not a member of the immediate family. I consider them members of an extended family now. The cabin was comfortable and very user friendly for pets. My son's chocolate lab enjoyed romping on the expansive back lawn fronting the river." Randy Skidmore, Napa, CA

Great surroundings. Very peaceful. Absolutely wonderful food (I want the recipes). Accommodations were very comfortable. I loved the personalized attention [kayaking 10/9/07]. The friendliness is such a plus. It was great for my son, too. Loved the CDs you have to listen to. Would do this again as much as possible." Karen Cruz/Monterey, CA

"The kayaking was our unforgettable experience. "I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you for all your hospitality and especially your patience with Isabel. We absolutely had a blast and feel blessed to discover such a gem and good people. Thanks for your incredible hospitality. We felt at home during our entire visit and that's saying a lot for my introverted other half. Still riding on cloud nine," Amy Little/Sebastopol, CA "

"The best B & B food we have ever had. The whole visit was great. An excellent locale at a perfect spot on the river. [Having the river so close] to fish & play was great. Clearly a huge part of what made this excellent was Heidi and Steph and your love of the area. [Food] was excellent. The variety was wonderful and yummy. The best B & B food we have ever had! Perfect locale with deck and lawn to river. The sidecar ride to wine tasting was an abslute hoot. Really, everything was fabulous. Your flexibility about everything really helped to make it so relaxing. You are absolutely the best. We don't think anyone will ever be able to top you guys!!!" Mary, Brandon & Finnegan Huff/Bonnie Doon, CA ["Back Talk" on our web site shows Mary fishing and Brandon and their great dog Finnegan by the river. Finnegan is a wonderful, huge, golden retriever puppy who not only learned to kayak, but also went wine tasting with his parents, us and our dogs at Alpen Cellars north of Trinity Lake]

5/31/2007 Trip Report: Trinity River Adventure Inn Here goes..... So I'm searching online one day, looking for something for Allison (wifey) and I to do for the Memorial Day weekend. Finally I found the TRAI web site. As I started reading I thought, "Hey now this looks interesting.....Right on the river, good, good....fishing,excellent.....uh huh, hiking, I like that too.....and kayaking...perfect, ok keep going, lets see...aaah, cabin pictures, place looks cool soooo show me the money. Wait a minute, hello menu! King Henry and Princess Papuli aka Andrew and Allison Harris (fishing below the patio above right) MMMMM eggs, smoothies, YUM, thick sandwiches (me likes thick sandwiches).... Can you say, HEAVEN! Now what does it cost again, hum, not bad for two...... hey that's.......HONEY, COME SEE THIS!!!" To make a long story short, she called, we got it and we arrived on Friday afternoon. the place is beautiful. Warm and sunny, the air smells piney and good. We introduced ourselves to Steph and Heidi.? Allison and I knew instantly we liked them.? Our little cabin , "The Sow's Ear" is immaculate and "Grandma Clear Lake Cute." I won't go into a blow by blow of our entire weekend, but there are some things you just need to know. First, by the time dinner rolls around you feel like you are at your cousin's house (you know, the ones you really like)? Any nonsense you brought with you from the city has disappeared. It already feels like vacation. Also important, make Steph and Heidi hang out with you. They keep trying to "leave the guests alone." No way, both of them are really interesting with major life accomplishments and great stories. Ok, the food was,"Off the Hook" (means great), everything times 100 of what's on the web site. Gotta say though, felt a little weird not being able to clear your own place. Very King Henryish (menu suggestion..turkey legs). Steph and Heidi worked their butts off to make sure we had an amazing experience. If you get the chance, go to the Trinity Alps Resort for dinner with them. Their friends Jim and Jeanie run it and are super nice and the place is "time warp awesome". I almost felt like "BABY" from Dirty Dancing (I'm kidding). Fishing off their bank was great... Andy 2, Allison 0, ha, ha!!! One more tip, Go Kayaking (a must). We went to Lewiston Lake. It was breath-takingly beautiful! I can't emphasize that enough...Breath taking. Just want to thank them again. They put a lot of energy into our
