Not the Peaceful Getaway We Hoped For

Guest: A Family of Dogs (Indiana)
Date of Stay: 08/21/11 Review Submitted: 09/08/11

We were quite disappointed in our stay. The listing states that this house is a “peaceful and relaxing cottage.” It was hard to have much peace when the house sits on the corner of two busy streets that have large industrial trucks going by at 5 a.m. We were looking for a great place for our dogs and we were under the impression that we would be able to take them down to the lake. The dock, however, is so steep and rickety that I didn’t even feel safe going down there, not to mention there was no good way of getting out of the water if you went in. The beach on the other side does not allow dogs. The pontoon boat looked a little over-worn and we read some notes from previous guests who said the battery died in the middle of the lake so we thought we would use the canoe but it was nowhere to be found. The house itself was not very comfortable. If those were new beds as they are listed to be, they were not very good ones because we actually left a day early because we were so uncomfortable. Also, don’t plan on having more than one person take a shower at a time because the hot water didn’t even last through one ten minute shower. The Dish they have doesn’t have many channels on it unless you like the watch the home shopping channels or kids shows. We tried to watch a DVD after a long day at the water park but there was no remote for that and no fast forward button on the player so we had to sit through 20 minutes of previews only for the DVD player to give out on us ten minutes through the movie. This house was uncomfortable, it was not very peaceful, and the grounds were definitely not doggie friendly. One the plus side, the owner was very responsive and made accommodations for our schedule and returned our refund in a timely manner. The house was kept pretty clean and it had nice towels. The small town was quaint and it wasn’t hard to get to the Dells. If you just need a place to lay your head close to the Dells and allows pets, this place might work for you.

What A Doll house. Such wonderful November weather. 65 degrees, sun and calm. The lake was a perfect mirror. 11/11 The last of the Indian Summer wather was enjoyed here. Today we thank and celebrate our veterans. Sandy County Players "On Golden Pond" a wonderfully funny play of growing old and relationships, with a great view! Spending time with my lifelong friend, "Super" Heidi.

Dear Don & Sandy, Thank you for such a lovely stay. My husband Dave & I have been coming to the Dells area since we were kids. We both had not been to the area since it has grown so much. We enjoyed our stay a little out side of town away from the hustle & bustle of the Dells & drove into town for our adventures. We enjoyed the WI Dells Ducks, fudge shops & the Mt Olympus waterpark. The weather has been wonderful in late October. Our young children loved coming home for their quiet peaceful house. We enjoyed making homemade breakfast & dinners at home. Although we didn't use the canoe or Pontoon this time the kids loved going down to the dock. We even enjoyed Friday night fish fry at the Family Affair (restaurant). We ran out of time to carve the pumpkin, but played out in the yard. Thank you for providing us a home away from home Beth, Dave and children.

Thanks for a peaceful & relaxing stay. We enjoyed the cozy cottage & luckily had nice weather & enjoyed the outdoors as well. We attended "Harvest Fest" & "Wisconsin Dells on Tap" on Saturday & finished the day with a bonfire by the lake. Sunday we ate a yummy breakfst at the Family Affair and went back into the Dells for some shopping, a boat tour and Mini golf. We especially enjoyed coffee in the sunroom each morning. Thanks again, Kari & Jeremy Minnesota

Thanx Guys! Great Time. Very Peaceful. Just the escape we needed from the normal hectic day to day. The Pontoon Boat was a huge plus!! However... we would advise to avoid the shallow water at the far end of the lake. Got briefly stuck on a submerged log. Saw a red headed woodpecker the morning we left. Again, thanx a bunch. We arrived from Illinois. Had wrong directions but it made finding the lake house even better. We Grilled some steaks and enjoyed the view of Lake Friendship. What a well planned kitchen. Had a big breakfast. Took our lab on a walk in Friendship Park.(about a block away) What a gem. He could run free when one of us blocked the bridge and one the road. (owners note: dogs are suppose to be leashed). Late lunch on the grill. County Market was handy, great local cheese. The beach was great. My husband canoed over and gave me a ride back. The water is so clear. Took a nap. Read books in the sunroom looking out at the lake. It's vacation 'cause we grilled out and loved it. Swam, took walks, and explored Adams/Friendship. Resale shop was nice. The library has a computer lab you can use with a guest pass.(ask for a guest pass at the library desk) Shopped Pamida and got a fishing pole. Started puzzle 1,000 pc. Went into Dells, Golfed at Pirates Cove. It was o.k but will try a different one next. Walked to the pubs, $1.00 drafts. Wednesday, It is hot, hot, hot! Lake felt good. Took the dog to the lake let him get in. It is clean and sand bottom. Pontoon boat lost charge after a short run. Went to Point Bluff for Wednesday fish. They have it Fridays too. It was really good, It is on Wis River. Friendship Hotel Pub is our favorite. We went there for a night cap. Thursday, Noah's Ark day, What a blast! Used the buy one get one coupon from Dells book. (used one for mini golf too). Went on all the rides. They were fun. Park was clean. Lockers $1.00 and brought lunch. Good thing. Went to Tanger Outlet. Ate out but payed way to much even with coupon. Glad we cooked most meals at Lake house. Friday, Slept in. Got up, at lunch and read and slept some more. Shopped for snacks. Family came and we grilled, took an evening swim. Played Clue and did a puzzel that was 550 pc. Saturday, coffee by the lake. Walked top of Mound. What fun. Went to Cafe for best pie ever. Started 1,000 piece puzzel again. Saturday, Walked the 303 stairs up Rock-a-Cri State Park. Cost $10.00 for day pass to WI parks but $3.00 pass if you have WI plates. Great view but was just as fun going up Friendship Mound.. Did not finish 1,000 pc puzzle.boo hoo. Girls night out at Friendship Hotel. Good time had by all. Sunday, Our last day, we had a lot of fun staying here. We'll miss it!! thank you,

Not satisfied

Guest: Last Stay (Barrington, IL)
Date of Stay: 08/08/10 Review Submitted: 10/23/10

Property was poorly managed. We were asked twice for our rental money after the check was cashed weeks in advance. Had to call several times to receive our deposit back. We were given the incorrect pin code for the security lock box when we arrived. There were broken glass shards all over the living room rug. On a positive note the pontoon was nice to go fishing in, but the row boat and paddle boat were submerged.

Owner response:Dear Past Guest, we apologize for the challanges, sometimes my system breaks down.. However, we do have a better way of handling reservations now and try not to inconvenience our guest with unnecessary phone calls. Also the broken glass was an oversight by the new cleaning lady. That situation has been corrected too. We try to please our guests and make the home clean and comfortable for your stay. The cleaning lady has been instructed to make sure the boats are usable when guests arrive.

quaint cottage

house clean and neat; boat shown in picture of listing is not the boat available. the one available is small, with electric trolling motor and sides missing. canoe under water, no place to bail out water on land. downtown not as described.

Owner response:The Pontoon Boat in the photo is just to give you a picture of a Pontoon Boat and the lake as it is difficult to take a photo of the boat while I am on the shore taking the picture. Our boat is a 6 person (1475lb) Pontoon which is great for going out for a little jaunt around the lake. It isn't perfect but it is fun. The town is very cute and has shops, businesses and restaurants . There is a lovely park just about a city block away from us which is great for a stroll or take the dog for a walk (be sure to stoop and scoop). Unfortunately the canoe will get water in it if it rains, there isn't much I can do about it as I am not there all the time. We love our guests and try to provide a comfortable cottage with ammenities at a reasonable rate.
