Thank you so much for allowing us to share your beautiful home! We were blown away by its beauty and top-end amenities. Your attention to detail and ensuring that your guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay is evident. The was perfectly located away from it all but within minutes of everything. Our family truly enjoyed our 'retreat' at your cabin and hope to visit it again soon. Thanks

'Appalachian Retreat' is the most beautiful place to stay if you are going on a vacation in North Carolina. This luxury cabin has everything you need to enjoy inside and out. Great for large or small families. The owner's are wonderful and very welcoming. We will visit this area again and you can be sure we will stay at Debbie and Denis's cabin. It is your home away from home! We give it 5 *star rating to anything else in this area!

We had a terrific time at the Appalachian Retreat. The house itself was incredibly accommodating and very clean. With a family of six, a washer and dryer is a must and the beautiful, fully equipped kitchen + gas grill made meals at the house very convenient. The kids didn't want to leave the cabin. They wanted to just hang out and enjoy it. We had fun skiing, hiking, exploring caverns and going to Grandfather Mountain, but we also enjoyed our evenings playing games in front of the fireplace. We would highly recommend this home for your Mountain vacation.

This home is outstanding! The pictures don't do justice to its beauty and view of the beautiful North Carolina mountains. We felt welcomed the minute we walked in the door. Debbie and Dennis were fabulous to work with from our first inquiry until we returned back home. We definitely plan on going back.

My wife, 5 year old, 10 month old and myself had the pleasure of staying at this cabin in early December. We were amazed at how well it was decorated and furnished. We arrived on Friday afternoon and woke up to a snow covered deck. It was awesome to sit and look at the mountains with snow falling all around. As a family we appreciate Gods beauty and felt we were blessed to have experienced it at this cabin. On Saturday we went to Boone for breakfast and sleding but only made it half way up to the cabin off the main road. The owners were available to us and gave us the name and number to a neighbor who picked us up in his 4x4 and took us with our luggage back to our car the next day. We will be staying here again in the future and look forward to it. We've stayed at several places in the Boone area while there getting our Christmas tree but this was the best.

Our family has been to this cabin 2 times, once in the spring and just this last week at the peak of fall color, and we loved it both times. Everything is wonderful. The views are great. We loved sitting out on the deck/balcony in the evenings on a clear night, and getting cozy by the fireplace on a cold night. I can't say enough good things about it. Thanks to the owners for offering such a great place to stay. We look forward to visiting again!

We recently returned from a week at this mountain cabin and throughly enjoyed our stay. The house was immaculate and well designed to accomodate our group by providing us some private space in addition to open dining and living areas as well. The mountains are spectacular and we loved the Blue Ridge Parkway. We took hundreds of pictures of the beautiful landscape. We did some hiking, shopping, antiquing and even went South to the Biltmore Estate. A lovely time was had by all.

My brothers and I with our spouses rented the Appalachian Retreat in September 2010 for our annual family reunion. The cabin exceeded my expectations as it was clean, beautifully decorated and the kitchen well equipped for preparing and serving meals. Each floor of the cabin has special amenities to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. One of my favorite things was the balcony with the glider chairs. It was great to be out at night where we were able to clearly view God’s creation of the great expanse in the sky – the stars, planets, The Milky Way, The Big Dipper, etc. Appalachian Retreat is located near several towns with many sites/activities to enjoy. Restaurants and grocery stores are conveniently located as well. One of our favorite meals was breakfast at Dan'l Boone Restaurant in Boone. We were in the dead zone with our cell phones but the cabin had a phone for local calls and for family/friends to contact us. Debbie gave out plain and informative instructions on locating the cabin and for our stay. In the cabin, a booklet of information regarding the area was provided . My family had a wonderful time at the Appalachian Retreat and we look forward to another visit in the future. My family highly recommends the Appalachian Retreat as a perfect place to go to have a great time in the mountains of North Carolina.

Aug 21-29 2010 Enjoyed everything about the 'Appalachian Retreat Cabin' (though we found it more spacious than just a cabin.) Very central location for Boone, Blowing Rock and Jefferson as described. It was sparkling clean upon arrival and a delight to be in for the week. Even with some rain the rooms were light and cheery. We were able to sit on the deck and relax in the wonderful glider chairs and when the sun was too warm just moved down a floor to the shaded deck which also had the comfortable gliders. Loved the eclectic decorating in all the rooms and found the kitchen to have everything needed to prepare gourmet meals. Really appreciated your book with details on where to go, things to do and how to get there. We took in many of the local sights, did a little bit of hiking, shopping, gem mining, and even one winery tour. Two of our group even 'climbed the wall' in Boone. Every evening was a Foozball playoff. So much fun, too short a time. Thank you for providing such a lovely place for our getaway.

This house was perfect for my family in every way. The views from the house were wonderful and it was easy to find. The centralized location allowed us to drive 35 minutes in any direction and availed us to endless family adventures. The furniture in the house was extremely comfortable and the game room was great for family fun!

My family and I just returned from a wonderfully relaxing week in the woods. This house is incredible and not at all what you would expect for the very reasonable rate. Top quality furnishings abound, from the stainless appliances in the kitchen, to the faucets in each bathrooms and the quality linens, to the sturdy furniture throughout the house. The double decks are wonderful-we ate just about every meal on the upper deck and enjoyed the lower deck when we wanted to sit out of the sun. My family enjoyed many foosball tourneys and card games too! The beds were super comfy and certainly added to our desire for a week of relaxation. The only things missing here are a hammock for a nice snooze on the deck,a better light over the foosball table(for those evening games) and maybe some more toys for the younger children(ours were 6 & 8). The property was in a great area...we visited West Jefferson, Boone, Blowing Rock, Valle Crucis,Grandfather Mountain & Linville Caverns...everything was less than an hour away, most being less than 30mins away. However, I think our favorite times were when we were just hanging around the house relaxing, reading, and playing games. It was such a wonderful, quiet property...we hope to get back soon!
Owner response:Thanks for the suggestion about lighting the table-I love the idea and will look into it for sure! As far as kids toys-that is a thought, but I just imagine a bunch of toys with missing pieces over time. Since I strive for everything to be perfect, I would hate to see a disappointed child when a toy is missing a vital part. I will keep my eye out though for some toys that will stand up to use. Now had there been snow while you were there-the snow discs that are there would have been a blast! I love any suggestions our guest can give us to make the stay better because as you can tell, we want you to feel at home!

We had a fabulous week's vacation staying at Appalachian Retreat. The cabin is fantastic!! The furniture, furnishings, appliances, kitchenware, etc. were all top notch. All was spotless. We felt like we were living in luxury. Everything about the home is first class. Great secluded, yet convenient location. We kept busy hitting many of the nearby attractions. We especially enjoyed the New River (tubing/canoeing), Todd, Grandfather Mountain, town of Blowing Rock, zipline, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and scenic hikes. All attractions were close by and enjoyable to drive to. We spent two days just hanging out at the cabin, relaxing and enjoying the place. Great family time for the five of us. Wonderful weather also, not too hot for the end of June. I could elaborate more about the luxurious cabin, but the previous comments say it all precisely. Thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin/home!!

I wouldn't ordinarily use sophisticated and cozy in the same sentence but they seem to be the best words to describe this house. Very welcoming and comforting with a very sophisticated attention to detail, while being kid friendly. The owners have gone out of their way to provide their guests with every imaginable amenity; it is as if a close friend lent you their home for the weekend...remote, peaceful and well worth the visit...we found it to be a great value for money.

We stayed here for a week in January and found it to be ideal in every way. The home's layout maximizes its already significant square footage; it is tastefully furnished; and it is obvious that no corners were cut in making this a wonderful place to stay. The location is very convenient, as the home is in the mountains but close to several nice towns. Plus, the owners are easy to work with. We will definitely return.

My husband and I rented this cabin the second week in January, 2010 and had a wonderful time! The cabin is nicer and cozier than in the pictures, if you can believe that! We were close to all the desired locations: Blowing Rock, Jefferson, Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain, etc. We even went ice skating at Sugar Mountain! This cabin/home was nice enough that we were comfortable staying/cooking there when we didn't want to go outside. That aspect is paramount to us when renting a house/cabin. We have to be able to feel "at home." As a plus, the owners were very kind and helpful. We will definitely be back!

This is a wonderful house! It's conveniently located near Boone, but because it's situated on top of a beautiful, secluded, wooded hillside you will certainly get the feeling of being "away from it all." The large back porch offers a private, tranquil place to sit in the early morning and watch the soft, feathery mist float up to the treetops. The woods next the house offers kids a perfect place to explore (think of the famous children's book, "My Side of The Mountain") and yet the woods are thin enough that I could keep an eye on my son while he played. The house, itself, is gorgeous. With its spacious, open floor plan and a bedroom on all three floors, the house is ideal for a multi-family vacation. We have lots of allergies to contend with, and the house was not only immaculate, but beautifully decorated. The owners are lovely people who clearly love this house, and want their guest to enjoy it as much as they do. The owners' attention to detail -- a kitchen stocked with lots of pots, pans, utensils, etc, a large gas grill, board games, foosball table, and even a basketful of DVDs for rainy days -- told me that they really want their guests to feel at home.

It's uncommon to find a vacation rental so elegantly appointed as this beautiful log home. We mused that the owner must have a background in the high-end hotel business, as every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. The mountain setting was blessedly quiet and we enjoyed deep relaxation during our stay. We'd highly recommend it to anyone and look forward to our next visit.

This was the first time that we visited this area of North Carolina and we had a wonderful time in this cabin. It is absolutely beautiful. It has everything that you could possibly ask for to make your stay comfortable. The location is close to all the surrounding towns and the Blue Ridge Parkway, but you feel like you are a million miles away from it all. The owners were a pleasure to work with and we would highly recommend this cabin. We would love to rent this cabin again in the future.

My husband and I rented this cabin for 10 days to spend Christmas in an unstressful, unrushed environment with our four small boys. The home is beautiful, and very accomodating, even for all the energy bundled up in four boys. Our family had the opportunity to make so many wonderful memories this Christmas and we are so greatful. The location is secluded, yet very convenient to everything. Our favorite day trip was to near by Beech Mountain, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is a must. We look forward to making many more memories here over the years!

What a lovely house. My husband and I have used VRBO for previous vacations and have always enjoyed our stays. Your house is by far the best decorated house we have stayed in. It is truly like staying in someone's home and not a rental home. The location is perfect. Seclued, but close enough to Blowing Rock and Boone. We also saw deer in the backyard! I have never received a thank you note by mail for staying at someone's home before. That was a very nice touch, which met a lot. We will definitely recommend your home to our friends! We hope to return next year!! David and Nita Drumm
