This place could not have been more perfect for me and my husband, a bunch of pups, and 11 of our closest friends. We range in age from mid-20's to 30's and everyone had the space and privacy that they needed - with room to spare! Woody and Joan have created the perfect getaway for friends and family, and will provide you with more than adequate directions once you book. The first time was a little dicey as we second guessed ourselves, but once we found our way it was quick and easy. Asheville is 25 min max away from the house, but you really don't have to leave. The house has everything you would need for a long stay (minus the food)...and I can't forget those beds. After arriving home, we realized ours was no longer adequate and upgraded to a king! The house is honestly perfect and I cannot think of anything to be improved. It would be awesome to have a trail down to the river, but then you'd have to cross the tracks. One of our friends did make it down there, but the rest of us wussed out once we got to the drop-off. All in all, would love to return!

We had family/friends from Pennsylvania and Florida meeting at this beautiful Mountain Home. LOVED the attention to detail, from the extra linens down to the Bath & Body Works soaps! Definitely a good house to relax and have a good time with friends and family. We were in want of nothing. The house was a good square footage but still had that cottage/cozy feeling to it. Really nice layout - well done! The views and privacy were amazing! Plenty of hiking around. The road/driveway was an adventure in itself and the detailed instructions/directions were right on and hysterical at the same time! Thank you for a wonderful vacation

My husband and I went with 3 other couples to Riversky and we absolutely loved it. The house is gorgeous, and the views are unbelievable! There was a ton of room (we also had 3 dogs), and all of the amenities were updated and beautiful! The kitchen was wonderful, and we loved the hot tub on the deck! We definitely plan to return to Riversky next year!

I want to personally thank the owners, Joan & Woody for their wonderful hospitality! Like a prior review stated, they make you feel like a welcomed friend in their home, rather than a "customer". Riversky Lodge was the perfect place for our mountain getaway weekend. My family shared the home with 3 other couples and their young toddler daughters. With 5 bedrooms and 5.5 baths, there was plenty of space for all of us. Ample living space, an extremely well-equipped kitchen, lovely furnishings, and a gorgeous view of the French Broad River really made for a great weekend for all of us! It was amazing how Joan & Woody thought of everything...from hair dryers in all the bathrooms, to how organized the linens were, and the wonderfully detailed set of directions that proved so helpful. I have never rented a home before that had the kitchen so well-stocked with equipment! We really enjoyed cooking together, and sharing meals out on the deck. The kids loved the downstairs (the girls all brought their sleeping bags and had fun watching cartoons on Saturday morning together in the game room). We will definitley be returning!

This house has absolutely everything you will need for a large group of people. We had a group of 15 friends and everyone had plenty of room and we had everything we needed. We cooked/ate all of our meals at the home. The owners provide every utinsel, pot and pan, and dish we needed to fix grand meals for such a large crew. We stay at rentals often when vacationing and I must say this home is the favorite of all the rental homes we have stayed in. This was our second trip to this Marshall home. The view is unbelievable, you must see it in person to realize how amazing this home and it's location truely is. Such a relaxing vacation. We can't wait to come back!

My husbands family all got together at Riversky for my mother-in-laws 50th birthday. It was wonderful and my mother-in-law loved it. The cabin was very relaxing and beautiful. Everyone was extremely pleased with it and we would definitely recommend it to friends. We absolutely loved the view! And the owners were so wonderful to us, made us feel like friends versus a customer. It's so nice to feel like you know the people you're renting from:-)

This home was perfect for our recent rafting trip. Everything was as described and the owners were very prompt in their responses. The pictures do not do justice for the breathtaking river views. The house was very clean and well maintained. Even the hot tub was warm and ready for our arrival. We had 14 people in our group and everyone had a comfortable bed and there was no waiting for a bathroom. There were large televisions with satellite in just about every room, and plenty of movies and games to keep everyone entertained. We look forward to our next visit at Riversky!

My family and I spent the week of Christmas 2010 in this incredible cabin. It was everything the website made it to be and more. The location is tranquil and the pictures just do not do the view justice! The cabin itself was clean, spacious, and had all the comforts and amenities of being at home. We were snowed in for most of the week but barely even noticed since we didn't want to leave! I would absolutely recommend this cabin and would love to stay again. We even tried to book it again this Christmas but it is already taken...in May :-( The owners were very helpful and were readily available to assist us. Thank you Joan and Woody for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Last weekend we stayed at Riversky with 2 other families. In total we had 10 children under 5 years old. The cabin is a huge, each family had their own floor. It is beautifully built and decorated. Multiple bathrooms were "master baths" with huge tubs and showers, the kitchen was perfect for a large group of people, and the cabin was big enough for all, yet had a very cozy feel. There were multiple fireplaces including a fireplace that we used for making smores. There were plenty of fun things to do for older kids including pool, darts, games and outdoor exploring. For the younger ones, they just enjoyed playing in all of the different rooms that this huge cabin had and playing outside. From the first floor balcony the view is amazing... the cabin sits at the top of a mountain that overlooks the river and railroad far below with multiple mountains surrounding the area in the view. We will definitely stay here again, in addition to the beautiful cabin, the owners were super helpful and easy to work with. We didn't know them and found the cabin on this website, but having such a large group we had a number of questions for them and they were very responsive and helpful.

The owners named it perfectly. What a view!!! Our stay here was fantastic, the owners were great, the cabin was amazing. However, it is the view that you come for and we were not dissappointed. We sat on the deck every day and tried to paint the view in all it's variations. In the morning fog blocked most everything but the outlines of the mountians. As the fog burned off the river became visible with fog trainling down the valleys. Later in the bright sunshine you could see forever and at night the mist came up from the river. There are numerous hikes in the vicinity. Our favorite was "Max Patch". We enjoyed going to Asheville to restaurants (it is about 30 minute drive). Marshall is a very small but charming town. You can certainly find much to do. I can highly recommend this property. It would be especially good for large groups because the cabin is large with many bedrooms and areas for people to gather. As just a couple we used the main floor only, which is quite large and well decorated. We had several conversations with the owners and they couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating. All in all, a perfect vacation!

Our family consists of 7 adults and 2 children ranging in age from 73 to 8. Riversky was the perfect location for all of us from which to explore the surrounding area...and its beauty and isolation gave all of us the "getaway" feeling that we crave all year. The house is beautifully appointed, and we found the art work especially reflective of the area. My favorite touches were the two magnificent mantels in the great room and the sun room. Made of tree trunks, they brought the outdoors in very effectively. As for the deck...each of us enjoyed sitting quietly there and drinking in the views of the French Broad River and the mountains. In fact, two of my sons commented that our view from that deck was more lovely than the views of the surrounding countryside found at the Biltmore Estate!!! We visited Asheville several times...the art district was especially appealing, with its glass blowers, pottery workers, and various painters. Visiting the Biltmore Estate deserves an entire day at the very least, and sitting in the lobby of the Grove Park Inn is a special treat. Driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopping at the Folk Art Center was outstanding, and going to the top of Mt. Mitchell gave each of us a thrill! We visited the Linville Caverns and did a little gem mining...two activities that captivated our entire crew. We saved White Water Rafting for the last day, and that was a glorious bit of fun! I highly recommend the Huck Finn company in Hot Springs. All of their guides are required to pass a course on rafting before they are allowed to take anyone on the river, and we found them to be funny, efficient and reassuring. Daily, members of our group hiked in the terrain surrounding the house, and they loved coming in to the smell of delicious food wafting from the efficient, roomy kitchen. Thank goodness for thw two Ingles groceries in Marshall and Weaverville. All of us would like to return to Riversky...and two of my sons would love to be able to buy it!!!! Special Alert: Do not attempt to reach this home for the first time in the dark...and be sure you have a copy of both Joan's and Woody's directions with you when you make that first attempt. Both are needed for you to successfuly and uneventfully negotiate the last 1.1 miles of the journey!!!

What an awesome place to get away from it all and relax. Me and a large group spent 2 wonderful nights at this Cabin. The pictures don’t lie; the view is simply amazing and all yours. There is not another house anywhere to be seen once you pull into the driveway. You can easily spend hours upon hours just hanging out on the deck. The cabin has everything you need from a fully loaded kitchen, tons of TVs, pool table, fire places, etc. If you want you never need to leave. However, if you do want to get out and explore the town of Marshall is very nice to walk through and Asheville is only ½ hour away plus the world of hiking, rafting and exploring nature is all around you. If you are looking for the perfect mountain escape I suggest looking no farther. However, one suggestion is if possible avoid driving a car with a low suspension on this trip. We had a couple people in cars with low suspension and they bottomed out a couple times on the dirt road. Also, if possible make your first trip to the cabin in day light it will make finding the cabin much easier.

Although the Riversky Lodge was a little further out of Asheville than we expected, it was well worth the drive. I just don't think you can get a view like that closer to the city! The hot tub was magnificent and offered amazing views of the French Broad River below. This cabin has all of the ammenities of a well-stocked home and there was nothing we were missing to prepare a large dinner for 12. The cabin is also well appointed with premium cable and wireless internet - a little something for everyone! The owners were such a delight to work with and provided an abundance of information. The road to Riversky is a little twisty-turvey, so definitely bring along the turn-by-turn directions. But believe me, it is well worth it! We definitely hope to return again!

Two families enjoyed our week-long stay at Riversky. The furnishings are fantastic, the beds comfortable, and the TVs and Satellite better than at home. Great views from deck and hot tub! Remote quiet location. Walking down to the river is a challenge. Access to the house is via a mile-long gravel road.

My family and I decided rent a cabin in the mountains of NC for Thanksgiving. We needed a fairly large cabin because 3 families, consisting of 12 people wanted space to spreadout. After looking at dozens that didn't appeal to us my daughter found the gem. The pictures are accurate but once you see it, it is unbelievable. We had room for everyone. The guys were even impressed... The women had plenty of room the prepare Thanksgiving dinner without bumping into each other. We planned to go to Asheville on Friday to dine out. No one wanted to leave. It was so cozy and comfortable. There is so much attention to detail from the dishes to the towels. They spared no expense to make sure of the quality. The beds were so comfortable it was hard to get up. We slept late everyday. The views are breathtaking. We asked the owners for plenty of firewood and it was there when we arrived, we had a little problem with the internet and the owner called to make sure the company solved the problem. That was very nice. I have no complaints about this place and would love to return someday. My advice, do travel during the daytime because it is hard to find at night. Our group had ages 14 and up. There was something for everyone to do. I am so glad we found this place, we took lots of pics, and made lots of memories this Thanksgiving. If you pick Riversky for as your getaway, you will not be disappointed. As an added bonus the owners ordered snow flurries for us Thanksgiving night. WOW!!! LOL

I was planning a once-in-a-lifetime occasion--an extraordinary gathering of family members many of whom had never met. I needed a place equally extraordinary and was lucky to find Riversky. There, on a serene mountaintop overlooking a winding river, with nothing else in sight but fog-draped hills, three generations talked and cooked and played and made memories that will be treasured. The setting is pristine and the house is simply perfect. It's spacious enough for very large gatherings, with lots of open space and also many private areas, all beautifully decorated and designed for pure comfort. The listing details are accurate, but don't do the property justice. From the photos and the listing we expected rustic, but it's rustic elegance. Everyone gasped when they entered the house for the first time, and everyone raved about it. The property was maintained in great shape, was well-equipped, and thoroughly comfortable, with no detail overlooked. I'm sure the regional attractions are worthwhile, but we found no reason to leave the house in 4 days, and instead gathered and cooked in the spacious yet cozy kitchen, played in the game room, soaked in the hot tub, and were lazy on the deck. The owners are sweet as can be and completely charming, and that personality shows in every detail of the house. Each of us who attended can't wait to come back and hope to make Riversky an annual family tradition.

My family of 12 rented Riversky for a week in August and we LOVED the place. It is spacious, new, lovingly decorated, stocked with everything you need and the best beds anywhere. The amenities are amazing with a pool table, poker table, lots of board games, several fireplaces, whirlpools inside, hot tub outside, lots of TVs, wireless, a kitchen large enough for several cooks, a large deck with large grill and great views of the French Broad River and mountains on three sides. There is also an outdoor pit where in the evenings we made smores and enjoyed the cool evenings. The house is laid out nicely with plenty of private space and enough rooms to give everyone what they want from quiet and away from it all or in the middle of activities. I could go on and on about what a great house it is, just check out the website and it is everything pictured and described and more. Working with the owners is also a pleasure. They provided lots of information. Riversky is located a few miles from the town of Marshall which although small has a couple of good restaurants, a modern large Ingles grocery store and some artsy types of places to frequent. Only a few miles from the town is horseback riding and white water rafting or floating. It's not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway and golf courses and Asheville is nearby. So there is plenty to do and plenty to look forward to for the next visit. Although we will probably only stay at Riversky in the summer it would be an awesome place to stay any time of the year, and how fortunate for someone to be able to enjoy all the seasons at this super getaway. Our five families came from Northern VA, Raleigh area and Texas and everyone loved the place and is looking forward to returning Summer of 2010. If I sound like I am overdoing it a bit, it is because this place deserves accolades.

Riversky - A beautiful and most comfortable home for any occassion. For a family reunion it was perfect for everyone; adults, teens & even 4-6 year olds. There is enough room for everyone and enough space to have some quiet time. The house while large enough to accomodate many remains warm and welcoming. The view can not be described. The mountain air and the cool mountain nights were a delightful way to get away from the Summer city heat. The owners have thought of everything and in their grecious made me feel comfortable from our first conversation. THANK YOU!!

From my first conversations with the homeowner I knew we were in for a great vacation! They really give great directions, including a detailed tour of Blow Hole Road (leading up to the house). The house was clean and ready for us and all amenties promised were provided. The hot tub was definately the biggest hit with our group! The one recommendation I would give is to bring an ATV of sorts to assist in getting down to the river (friends of ours brought their Kawasaki Mule). This is especially helpful if you are with small children! Unfortunately, the path down to the river was washed out on our trip. We still had a blast riding around the property on the Mule. I would definately recommend this property to friends and family! The homeowners are friendly and helpful, the house is everything we thought it was going to be and we really enjoyed our stay!

We (5 couples) rented this absolutely wonderful home for Valentine's weekend. The house was perfect for us. Each couple had their own bedroom, two of them being master suites with their own bathroom. There are flat-panel TVs in almost every room, and there's a pool table and a card table too. My favorite areas were the deck with the expansive mountain and river views, the hot tub, and the sun room just off the dining area. We all enjoyed the downstairs bar & pool table area. There are fireplaces everywhere too, but be sure to bring firewood with you as we didn't find any readily available. There is a train that comes by a few times a day, but you won't be bothered by any noise from that. We barely heard a very low rumble as it came through. We stopped to get groceries on our way up to the house. That worked out great! The kitchen is well stocked and there's a very nice gas grill on the deck. The road up to the house is very curvy, so if you get motion-sickness be prepared. The directions to the house were easy to follow, but I would advise arriving in the daylight. The owners were great to work with, very good communication. The property is very clean and well-maintained. I would absolutely recommend this house to my friends and family. In fact, we are considering going back.

We stayed in this beautiful home the last week in Oct. and it was more than we expected. The pictures are great, but really don't do it justice. It snowed the 2nd morning we were there. Didn't eat in Marshall, but heard the Bistro was very good. The drive to Ashville is about 25 minutes. We took the train trip out of Bryson, but if I had it to do again, I probably wouldn't as the views from the deck at the house are prettier than any we saw on that trip. Joan has put much thought in the comfort of her guest. Marilyn & Bob

We all loved the place. 4 couples and 4 kids and plenty of room to spare. Cabin was more then we expected. Beutifully decorated, games for the kids, amazing view, everything you'd want in your dream cabin. Drive to cabin and your are expectations are exceeded. We caught some bass in the river. Saw lots of deer, turkey. We have rented cabins in the mountains before but this was by far the cleanest, largest and overall the nicest. A definate get away from the city.
