Why the Owner Chose Grayling

We are avid flyfishermen and enjoy the outdoors. We wanted something that was within a 3 hour drive so we could take advantage of the cottage on weekends. We wanted to enjoy the water without the noise and traffic on a lake. It is centrally located to every attraction in Michigan as Grayling is just about in the middle of the state. You can be on Mackinaw Island is less that 2 hours, the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes within 1 1/2 hour, Traverse City within 1 hour.

The Unique Benefits of this Cottage

We have so many wonderful family memories of the RiverCottage. Every season has something new and wonderful to offer. Summer days are full of kayaking, canoeing, cycling, golf, flyfishing and out door bonfires. Fall is absolutely gorgeous with the changing of the leaves and the crisp, clean air. Winter is always something to behold as the fresh fallen snow lays on the branches of the majestic pines. Endless trails for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are accessible right outside our door. Just up the road at Hanson Hills you can take in some down-hill skiing and snowboarding. Or just relax in front of a crackling fire.
As our children grow and move on we decided to put the RiverCottage up for sale so another family can enjoy everthing the RiverCottage has to offer. Start making your own family memories!

    • We will go again and again...the photos simply cannot convey this wonderful get-away nestled among the trees and with the gorgeous, peaceful view of the and river. I had to laugh a bit, when we pulled up to "The River cottage" - owners must be quite modest, much more like "The River House" - but with the warm, cozy feel you want in a cottage. Spent the week enjoying time with my husband hot-tubbing, reading and relaxing, while the kids expolored in the woods, built snowmen, had snowball fights and just enjoyed being outside. Everything we needed to make great meals was available in the kitchen. We entertained some friends in the Game Room - and it made for a great time for us adults and kids. In the morning, we all went into town and found the perfect breakfast diner. Decided to rent a few movies at the local video store for later that afternoon so we could just "chill out" that evening in front of the fire with a movie for us adults and something the kids could enjoy. Slept like a baby every night in the master suite king bed. Better than a hotel, it has all the comforts of home. This is a special place... you will find yourself wanting to experience in every season. The perfect balance of cozy comfort and well-appointed high-end accomodations. Found out through the grapevine that the owner is an interior designer - not surpising. Simply put, "It is a lovely haven away from it all." You will come back to your daily life feeling rejuvenated. Enjoy!

    • I have vacationed at this cottage several times. I could not believe how nice it was the first time I saw it. It has all the comforts of home and a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. I look forward to going back in the future. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

    • This is no ordinary cottage - it's like you're staying in your home away from home - just beautiful. We laughed at how well we all slept, so peaceful and comfortable. The lower deck is such a welcoming spot to gather and relax and just soak up the nature that surrounds you! I swear I saw an eagle fly over the river, right in front of me (but others say I was dreaming - and that's ok too) If you don't fish, no worries - a great spot to put your hiking shoes on and go on an adventure - a state park is within 15 minutes and offers many trails to travel. The owners were gracious and provided everything we needed - great communication. We're coming back for sure!

    • I have stayed at this house several times. I say "house" because it is so much more than a cottage. Very large & spacious and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed the beautiful deck and hot tub while watching the river flow below us. Easy drive to Traverse City and the casino. I highly recommend this property for it's peace and solitude.

    • I am so glad the owners e:mailed all the past guests to let us know they now have a guestbook. I stayed at The River Cottage in Aug and Nov. I travel with three other ladies. We like to gamble (Turtle Creek just 35min away)and then relax away from it all. The cottage is easy to get to and it is just gorgeous! We are Seniors and more than a little hesitant to send our money to a stranger for just a couple of pics on the internet. It was a leap of faith and it has really paid off. The pics and description do not do this lovely place justice. We will go for many weekends to come.....

What a truely beautiful "cottage". Its more like a home. I went with three friends for some R&R and to gamble at Turtle Creek (just 35 min away). I did'nt win at Turtle Creek but we sure did win with this stunning place. It is a leap of faith to send someone your money with just some pics on a computer. Well this place is everything and much more than what the pics show. Comfortable beds with all the amenities of home. We are going back in a couple of months. Highly recommended
