But in every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks. ~~ John Muir

Abandoning the rain clouds of Cincinnati, we embarked on a promise of seclusion and tranquility. On our flight descent we glided over an iridescent rainbow, a positive omen of the week to come in Long Key, Florida. This idyllic cluster of seaside villages is like sauntering into a dream ... the phenomenal preserve allows abundant time to seek and ponder...rejuvenate and reflect. The blunt silence is therapeutic and the ubiquitous wildlife is captivating.  No snorkel required in the lucent waters--we spied gar fish, crabs, sea anemone, and a horseshoe crab scavenging the ocean floor. Fashionable feathered friends soared overhead to hunt, rest, and model for the camera lens. Wendy lived on the welcoming veranda savoring the sights and sounds of the serene sanctuary...morning coffee, yoga and quiet time, inhaling the ebb and flow of the tides, evening dinner by candlelight. We paddled the kayak daily navigating through the liquid cobalt and lush mangroves. One crisp morning the Brave and Bold ventured to a deserted beach on the Atlantic Ocean! Paddling the placid lagoon at dusk became a favorite routine to swallow the hand painted sunsets. Swaying in the hammock by the glow of an autumn moon we witnessed enchanting shooting stars falling to earth.  Ahhhhh...this is the respite we craved. Even in the balmy storms and rain, this place is a magical mirage. Our side trips included Key West, Long Key State Park, Anne's Beach, Key Deer Refuge, Islamorada, and Sombrero Beach. All the excursions convinced us and confirmed one thing--this peaceful Long Key oasis is the most delicious spot in the entire Keys! On our exit from the Keys Jerry enthusiastically recommended biking the Everglades. We shunned the tram and busted our bouncing bottoms riding 15 miles through otherworldly landscape--glorious!  Jerry and Deborah are such fabulous, friendly hosts diligently attending to the needs of their guests--a compassionate, industrious couple possessing a wealth of information and history about the Florida Keys environment. Thank you so much, Jerry and Deborah, for sharing your private paradise with us. What a blessing and a gift--we are fortunate to have discovered the MOST exquisite jewel in the Keys ! We hope to return to share this gem with family & grandchildren. My husband and I totally loved this place! We were there Feb. 26 - March 5, 2011 and stayed in one of the 2 bedroom units on the first floor....which was PERFECT for nature watching...saw a stingray right off the deck! Nothing like coffee in the morning out there, either! All renters respected each other's privacy, and the owner and his wife were the best! VERY helpful! Loved having the kayaks there for our enjoyment! We grilled steaks outside, and had dinner in the tikki hut. The place was beautiful, well taken care of, and clean. A nice, quiet location....no tourists walking around as you would see in a resort. If you want peace and quiet - this place is it! A wonderful place to relax. Probably should have done a little more of that! There is much to do in the area. Restaurants are about 20 minutes away. Nice being about halfway in the Keys....close enough to visit Key West easily. Visited the Turtle Hospital, Dolphin Research Center, Bahia Honda, Sombrero Beach, Anne's Beach, day trip to Key West where we visited the Mel Fisher Museum, the Hemmingway Mansion, climbed up the Lighthouse, and shopped along Duval street and took in Mallory Square for the sunset. Walked the Golden Orb trail in Long Key State Park. Ate at Morada Bay, Lazy Days, The Wreck, Island Fish Co, Frank's Grill, Sloppy Joes (Key West) all of which were excellent! We highly recommend staying here! You'll love it! Thank you for a memorable vacation!

Peaceful and relaxing keys vacation

Property was as pristine as advertised with all of the amenities listed. The owner was very helpful and the property was well maintained. View was great and having the available kayaks and canoe allowed us the opportunity to take advantage of the park. Entrance to canal was a little tricky to find the first time when bringing in boat but was an easy trip the rest of the week. The local Italian restaurant was surprisingly good. Good fishing both flats and deep water with immediate access. Although there are several apartments there we had good privacy with the upstairs apartment, and could still sit and talk with other vacationers when we wanted. Saw many rays and other interesting fish and birds from the deck.
