This cottage is in the prime area of a small brand-new resort consisting of 30 cottages. Spectacular arbutus trees can be seen around the cottage and at certain times of year the whales can be seen passing by.
Eagles, seals, otters, and deer are abundant. The resort has a marina, two pools (one for adults only) a bistro, a kids playground, and a large grassy area. The resort is well-managed with staff always on sight to assist you and provide information.
There is a golf course within walking distance, and several first-class restaurants. At the Driftwood Centre, the main shopping area for Pender Island residents, there is an excellent bookstore, as well as several other shops selling art, crafts, clothing, etc. There is also an excellent modern supermarket with a selection as good as any high-end urban market.
A nicely appointed fitness centre is also available for drop-ins. Elsewhere on the island, there is a museum, many beautiful hiking trails, several lakes, beaches, and on South Pender, accessible over a one-lane bridge, there is a world-class spa where you can book massages, facials, and various body wraps, and enjoy their steam cave and geothermal hot tub.
The Island is a popular location for cyclists and there are few cars on the roads. There are a number of artist's studios that you can visit, and a Farmer's market every Saturday except in the winter. The Morning Bay Winery offers tours and tastings daily.
Pender is a special place in the winter too. The weather is generally very mild, as the area has a Mediterranean climate. The occasional storm is welcomed as the cottage is snug and cozy, encouraging you to curl up in front of the fire with a good book. If you are a diver, this cottage is very close to a world class diving area, and boats can be hired to take you out to a marine park with sunken ships.
The ferry is a 5 minute walk from the cottage, and you can take the ferry to Saltspring Island for the day, where there is more opportunities for shopping and exploring.

Year Purchased: 2005
I am a psychologist, working for Vancouver Coastal Health, as well as in private practice. I have two adult daughters, three grandchildren, and two little dogs. I love to go to the cottage when life is getting stressful and relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of the island.
Why the Owner Chose Pender Islands
I have always loved the Gulf Islands and dreamed of having a place to escape from the city. I manage to go two or three times a year myself, and like being able to share the experience with others.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
I feel my stress disappearing the minute I get into the lineup for the ferry. I love the feeling of walking in the door of the cottage and seeing the panoramic view of the ocean outside the windows. I love to sleep with the windows open and if I wake in the night, I fall back to sleep listening to the sound of the waves lapping against the rocks below my window.
