Good Stay

Guest: Bethany5 (-)
Date of Stay: 10/05/11 Review Submitted: 10/12/11

The apartment was much larger than expected and in its own area. The accomadations were nice - everything needed was there (except for internet, which caused quite an issue since it had been advertised as having internet, but it was taken care of). It was great to have a kitchen, dishes, towels, a kitchen table, etc. The apartment is also very close to the subway stop - we took the subway every where and it was great. The apartment manager met us and was super kind. The owner, Larry, is very ethical and does good business.

Manhattan Garden Apartment in Harlem

I stayed in the apartment on W. 137th for an extended time. The apartment was clean and very charming, with a back yard! Neighbors were fantastic. Easy access to B,C, 2 & 3 trains. I loved the neighborhood, the culture of Harlem and Larry was an exceptional, gracious host. I highly recommend it. Only thing is to make sure you have your own wireless access. I look forward to going back there and staying in this fabulous neighborhood!

Not at all as expected...

Guest: Suzette (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 06/23/11 Review Submitted: 07/12/11

Upon booking Larry was extremely flexible and responsive, despite our delayed flight he coordinated with someone to meet us and provide the key and we were extremely grateful especially given we were traveling with a 21m old toddler. My larger concerns occurred upon check in and no alternatives at mid-night with a toddler in tow. We arrived and once we settled in I noticed that the carpet in the master BR appeared to not have been cleaned in weeks with pieces of debris all over, when I open the refrigerator in the kitchen there was an awful odor and what appeared to be mold growing in the back, the only bathroom in the unit while appears it was clean, it was clear it had been a few weeks as it was filled with dust inside tub and on toilet. When I woke up on Friday at 5am, I noticed there was hair on my pillow that did not belong to any of us, consistent with the “not so clean smelling linen”. Another large turn off was the smell of garbage outside of the unit that appears to have been left for days or weeks despite the rest of the neighborhood that was collected. We checked in at mid-night on Thursday and I woke up at 6am and called Larry about our concerns and he called back @ 7:30am. He indicated they would re-clean they unit. To make a long story short, we left the unit at 9am on Friday very concerned about these issues and more so that they would charge me for cleaning only to have all these problems upon my check in. We returned to the unit at 3:30pm, and while it was clear that the cleaning crew has made an appearance (the master BR rug removed, linens changed, tub re-cleaned) we still felt unsettled by the garbage still out front and overall care of unit and didn’t feel comfortable staying. We contacted Larry to say we were checking out. We left the unit at 3:40pm and promptly drove across town to check into a hotel where we ended up paying double for the night. Overall I think Larry was responsive and tried to make good on the situation, he did refund us for 1 night of a 3 night stay but we ended up paying double at this place and a hotel for one of the nights of our trip plus I was charged a cleaning fee. We stayed in the unit for a total of 10 hours from check in to check out and had to go across town and pay an additional for 2 nights, so a 3 night stay was extremely costly for us. Rating of 2 is because Larry did try to respond but it was a bit too late for us, too many issues

Owner response:unfortunatley certain people travel and than try to scam out of paying for it .this was a last minute arrivial, and did not want to give deposit, also wanted to pay by check which takes longer to clear than there 3 day stay ?? after there stay wanted me to refund entire stay after the fact, even after paying cleaning crew to go back in while guests were out ? Iam sure if you and I want to find fault in something for a reason ( full refund ) we could find and say whatever we like. My apartment is as clean as humanly possible . there are times when it is unoccupied and could get some dust in bathtub? The place is great really comfortable , great neighborhood , great neighbors, and people all around we stay there ourselves from time to time and really enjoy it. And most people who come and stay agree Come and enjoy nyc cheers thank you

New York Trip!

Guest: Donna & Steve (Wisconsin)
Date of Stay: 06/12/11 Review Submitted: 06/23/11

Our family had a great experience with this apartment! It met all of our needs and expectations! Driving in, we were a little concerned because of the neighbor we passed through to get there, but those concerned were completely extinguished! Awesome apartment, very comfortable, and close to the subway too. This apartment made it possible for our family to have a great time in New York and not spend all our money on a place to sleep! Thank you Larry! We would gladly stay there again!!

Nice apartment

Guest: Lut (Belgium)
Date of Stay: 07/22/10 Review Submitted: 09/05/10

This apartment was OK . It had everything we needed from bedding to utensils. The cupboards were filled with dishes, glasses, mugs, cutlery pots and pans and even some food supplies. Sleeping accommodations were good . The apartment was neat, clean and looked after.. The only real downfall to this apartment was the fact that there was no air-conditioning in the living room, nor kitchen and the garden wasn’t well looked after ! Larry was very helpful : when the hot water failed he immediately fixed it ! We felt very safe in the area; people were more kind to us than in downtown NY ! We walked a lot in the neighborhood and never felt unsafe . In lots of reviews we read about the noise, but we didn’t hear a lot of noice. The recommended subway exit is B ( blue line) or C ( orange line): 135 th street 2 or 3 ( red line) on 135th street/ Lenox Av is less recommended because this is a very busy and noisy area !

This apartment was great. It had everything we needed from bedding to utensils. The cupboards were filled with adequate dishes, glasses, mugs, cutlery pots and pans and even some food supplies. Sleeping accommodations were good with lots of bedding and extra blankets. The apartment was neat, clean and looked after. The kitchen was a bit on the small side for a large family but other than that it was good. The only real downfall to this apartment, if you could call it a downfall, was the noise. For those who like to lay in bed and have a good sleep in, the activity on the street might be a problem. The cost was also very good. It fit in quite nicely with our budget and saved us a bundle on hotels. We were able to stay in NY longer than if we had had to pay money each night for a hotel. There weren't a great number of places to eat in the area, but for us that was not a problem as most of our time was spent sightseeing. I would recommend this place o others looking for a nice, clean, well serviced place to hang out while in NY.

Lovin' NY

Date of Stay: 05/13/09 Review Submitted: 05/28/09

Larry's apartment is clean and spacious. My family and I used the kitchen a lot. Everything you could imagine needing is in the apartment. The only thing we would have added was a clock to the master bedroom. Larry was very helpful, and answered all our questions. I felt very safe and comfortable. New Yorkers as a whole are very friendly, helpful people. There are lots of food flyers at Larry's so you can even order in from lots of local places. The subway is only a five minute walk away and will take you everywhere you could imagine wanting to go. It did take us a couple of days to figure it out! We did walk and ride in circles a few times. The apartment can be a little loud at times, but New York is always loud! Harlem is so beautiful and has so much history. I totally recommend doing the hop on hop off bus tours. They are great transportation, and you learn about a lot of New York's history, trendy spots, and beautiful architecture, It was beautiful while we were there, but we didn't take advantage of the bbq or the backyard. It is also set up with chairs and a table. I will be returning to New York and renting from Larry again. I think that everyone should go to New York at least once before they die!
