I grew up in this house and garden with my grandfather living uphill and my mother's sister's family living next door. We children roamed freely all over Russian Hill, which had no high-rises then and many little fairy-tale-like cottages, blackberry jungles, wooden bridges and stairways. We felt like like a wild tribe, when we moved away, I felt awfully sad. My uncle rented house house to a high-living bachelor who finally married the very year I moved back from New York. I was able to buy the place. My fairy tale came true!
