Twin Creek Retreat is a cottage-style home perched high in the Plott Balsam Range of the Great Smoky Mountains. THIS IS NOT A EVERYDAY RENTAL, but it is a unique retreat, a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of every day life. There are few places like this that you don't have to hike into and camp to enjoy. Instead of walking, drive up the mountain (Four wheel Drive is recquired, due to the varying conditions of the good gravel road) and you will be amazed when you arrive at this hidden oasis a mile high (5280') in the wilderness.
Nestled among the rhododendrons, you'll enter upon the spacious deck, being drawn into the great room with kitchen, dining, and living area. The natural pine paneling gives a cozy warm feeling to accompany the convenient gas log woodstove in the living area. However, you will be immediately attracted to the large sunroom and amazed at the commanding views into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, clear to Mount Leconte in Tennessee.
The House features a fully furnished modern kitchen with dishwasher and microwave oven. The front bedroom offers the view with a queen-size bed; the back bedroom has two twin-size beds.
Day beds in the sunroom offer additional sleeping and are great for kids or guests.
NEWLY ADDED 3rd BEDROOM IN FINISHED BASEMENT WITH 2 Queen beds AND HALF BATH WITH PRIVATE DECK/exterior access.
Outside, there are over 650 square feet of decks; front, back, and below to enjoy as well as the yard, gardens and fire pit.
We request no smoking indoors.
A half mile trail directly out the back door will take you to the high ridge trail where you can choose to go on another half mile east to Black Rock, at 5800 feet, an unbelievable rock outcropping with phenomenal 360 degree views. To the west, the trail goes a mile and a half to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Waterrock Knob. Our neighbor along this ridge is a 1595 acre Nature Conservancy tract. Adjoining this tract is the town of Sylva's Pinnicle Park of 1088 acres. The Nature Conservancy has recently acquired the 60 acres adjoing Twin Creeks to the West. (a combined park area of more than 2740 acres)very significant ecological and wild area.) Another half mile walk from the house takes you to sunset point, a special place to enjoy any time of day, an unforgettable spot to end it. There are many other great places to discover and hundreds of acres to explore and enjoy. Wildflowers, wildlife, waterfalls, and pristine nature are in abundance here.
While you will find it hard to leave, there are a variety of activities in the area. Catch dinner in a local stream, rafting on the Nantahala (40min), or exploring the exciting city of Asheville(1 hr), all within an easy drive are just a few choices. The Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherokee, Sylva, and Maggie Valley are all close by. Harrah's Cherokee Casino 21 minutes.
If solitude, peace and tranquillity are what you are seeking, come vacation in style at Twin Creek Retreat!

This home is loved, it shows in thoughtful furnishings, native landscaping and stupendous views! And there is quiet; no planes, no cars,no houses, it was amazing to have such quiet peacefulness. The view was amazing, we wonder just how far we were seeing into the distance! It was cool in late July w/o air conditioning! We had a wonderful stay.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We had such a wonderful time!!! It was so much more than we imagined! After a very challenging year, Twincreek Retreat was just what we needed. Total seclusion, quiet and lots of nature! The hiking trails near the cabin and sunset point were without a doubt a bonus feature to the cabin. A very well stocked kitchen was also nice for those like us who want to cook on vacation. I do believe the greatest feature for us was the ability to bring our pet! He loved walking around the grounds without a leash and collar. He would lay around on the deck and sun and sleep, he knew he was on vacation too! I’ll never forget our first night there, it was the most awesome views, the sunset was beautiful, dinner tasted better than ever before and bedtime was only made better by looking through the windows in front of the bed at the endless sky of stars! We will definitely be coming back to your cabin, but next time I do believe that it will be in a four wheel drive!!!!!! Thanks Jim for a wonderful stay and we will see you soon!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

After nearly two decades of vacationing with my wife and children, this is the only house we have visited more than once. Close to adventure and far from the worries of the world, our teenage boys love the close by activities (white water rafting, canoeing, horseback riding); my wife and I enjoy the simpler pleasures (cool mountain breezes, sipping coffee while watching the fog dissipate in the valley, sunsets, star and satellite gazing); the family enjoys long walks in the woods and quality time enjoying each others company. Jim's cabin is the perfect place to finish reading a book (or to start writing one). The sunsets, moon rises, and stars are more wonderful entertainment than anything on TV. Hiking to sunset point, black rock, or waterrock knob provides adventure right out the front door. An abundance of rivers, lakes, and riding trails are only a short drive away. Both years at Jim's cabin my wife and I have watched our two boys become best friends again. With none of the pressures from friends or the world, Jim's cabin provides the perfect environment for being a family. We had discussed going to the beach next year, but returning home everyone kept saying "next year at the cabin let's ..." Thanks Jim, for another fantastic week!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Twin Creek Retreat --- This is a place to go if you love mother nature. Beautiful and peaceful are the operating words. It is truly a beautiful place and a great get away. The house is super clean, well designed, tastefully decorated, and above all is very functional and comfortable. We really appreciated the sun room which affords an awesome panoramic view of mountains and forests both up close and at far distances -- with a gorgeous skyline. The wood stove in the living room takes away any chill almost instantly. (We visited in late October.) In addition, there is a furnace. We were very glad a 4 wheel drive was recommended. It made all the difference in our confidence in climbing the steep, winding road up to the house, and we were glad we had not challenged our Camry to the task. It was a safe road, though I would not want to drive it in snow or ice. If you are a hiker, there are endless trails about -- and the views at the destinations are more than worthy of your efforts. If you enjoy reading, game playing, meditating, listening to music, watching dvd's in a quiet beautiful place, or cooking and grilling, there is no end to opportunity. Also, there is a place for a campfire if s'mores or hotdogs are your thing. We brought games, books, dvd's, cd's and all our food with us and were so glad we did. We only left once, and that was to view leaf colors in the lower elevations. Awesome, relaxing three days!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I have been renting cabins for 25 years. It's my hobby. This is the first one that was exactly what it said it was. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The views are out of this world. You can see forever. One day was cloudy and you could watch the fog roll over the mountains and finally get to you. The Smoky Mountains! The down stairs bedroom offers privacy if needed and the top front bedroom has the wonderful view. The hiking is great from right out the door. You can take short hikes or all day hikes and never have to get in the car. The trip up the mountain is beautiful. The directions the owner has are very accurate and easy to follow. Plenty of pillows, blankets, and anything else you may need. Cherokee is an easy drive if you want to go into town. I took lots of food so I only left one time in the four days I was there. The only thing I missed the entire trip was a hot tub. I love to soak and look out at the mountains after a day of hiking. We built a fire int he pit and had hot dogs and marshmellows. It was just awesome!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: These are the very reasons I built Twin Creeks in this parklike remote area. To retreat from the hectic world and enjoy nature and recharge.

Why the Owner Chose Cherokee:
This is the most pristine park like property I found after many years of looking. It is very remote and that is the appeal. It takes a bit of effort to get here, but once you have arrived the stress of everyday life melts away.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Relaxing, going for walks in the woods, THE PHONE DOES NOT RING. Cooking meals with family and friends and the ever changing incredible views.
