"Marina Sunset" - Waterfront Retreat Overlooking Monroe Bay
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Colonial Beach
Colonial Beach is a hidden gem of the Northern Neck. We lived in Richmond, VA, and came upon this lazy little river town while exploring one weekend. We fell in love with the quaint step-back-in-time feeling, and the natural beauty of this town so rich in history. And the people...everyone waves hello! So we packed up an moved here, and we just love this way of life and especially sharing it with visitors! We live downstairs, and Marina Sunset is on the upper level!
The Unique Benefits at this House
Golf-cart community, trolley, great beaches, town events, sightseeing, bird watching, boating, artist guild, antiquing, great restaurants, very relaxing atmosphere!
Now a popular B&B, this was the boyhood summmer home of Alexander Graham Bell!
Our favorite sandy beaches for swimming and sunbathing, with public bathrooms and a kiddie park across the street!
The largest tree in circumference in the state, folks drive by just to see its massive root system!
Located directly in front of the cottage, so guests can arrive by boat or dock right in front!
This is the heartbeat of our little riverfront town! Quaint boardwalk with shops and restaurants, museum, library, visitor center, town pier with fishing deck, public beaches and picnic areas.
Owner's Map of Colonial Beach
We are baby boomers with lots of energy and young at heart! Jim is a handyman and Glenda handles all the bookkeeping and management of the cottage. We love people, so this is just our cup of tea!

We were looking for a quiet place where we could relax with our son and give him a respite from military training. This was perfect! Colonial Beach in the off-season is such a nice little town! We enjoyed biking around town, watching the swans in the bay and chatting with Jim, Glenda and the neighbors. In previous trips to the east coast it has seems like we have had difficulty avoiding crowds. This time we got the best of both- the coastal beauty in a quiet setting! And staying at Marina Sunset is so much better than a hotel! It is decorated so nicely! It was as comfortable as home!

Staying at the Marina Sunset was like going to a family members home. It was very clean and comfortable and Jim and Glenda were very friendly & helpful. They have gone out of the way to accomodate their guests. The info they send you before you go to stay there was very informational. I would highly reccomend the Marina Sunset to anyone visiting Colonial Beach. Thanks again to Jim and Glenda for making our visit feel like we were at a family members house. Owner response:Dear Pam & Ron, Yes, we have added many "family members" over the years with the delightful guests we have had at Marina Sunset. It all comes with the small town atmosphere that Colonial Beach provides. Thank you so much for your great feedback, and we hope you will come again soon! Jim & Glenda

We had a very relaxing week at Marina Sunset. It is aptly named because the sunsets viewed from the deck were gorgeous. It was fun watching the osprey and the great blue herons! The accommodations were charming and comfortable and well maintained. It had everything we needed to entertain and cook for our adult children who came to visit. We enjoyed walking along the beach and looking for sea glass.
Owner response:We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Marina Sunset. Yes, the views are incredible and it is truly a bird lovers paradise! We collect seaglass too! We have a big vase filled with various colors and shapes, such a fun way to spend some time at the beach! We hope you will tell your friends about our little riverfront town, and that you will be able to come again some time in the future! Regards, Jim & Glenda, Marina Sunset in Colonial Beach, Virginia

The Marina Sunset was a lovely cottage with a fantastic view of sunsets and the water, extremely peaceful location, easy to get to and from. Amenities and appearance of the property were exactly as expected. Wished we had more time to utilize the bicycles -- enjoyed riding early in the morning for the sights, sounds and exercise! Would definitely recommend the property to friends and family. Great location if you want access to the cities outside of Colonial Beach but we loved the quiet serenity there.

Beautiful and quaint! The view from the deck is wonderful! Makes for a relaxing coffee in the morning and a beautiful sunset in the evening. Great set up for our 5 and 2 year old. Would recommend renting a golf cart and be sure to visit the Dockside Restaurant/Blue Herron Pub. There's even a playground at the restaurant for the children! Thank you to Glenda and Jim for a great vacation!

Marina Sunset is a great choice if you're looking for a quiet and cozy place by the water, near the DC/N.VA area. The view is great and the place is well furnished and homely. While feeling very private, it's also good to know that, should you need, the property owners are nearby and accessible.

Marina Sunset was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. This was a last minute trip for us as we were desperately in need of a quiet and peaceful weekend away. The proximity to Northern Virginia was a major plus! The views were breathtaking and the owners were very friendly and accommodating. Even in the off-season, Colonial Beach is charming and beautiful. We will definitely be back.SarahFairfax, VA

What a bright, cheery place to get away. Full of little touches here and there to add to the charm and comfort. The view is so peaceful and a walk along the docks soothing. I'd return again without hesitation.

Marina Sunset is cozy and inviting and the view from the front deck is perfect. The beautiful water view allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves without feeling we had to go anywhere. When we did venture out, Jim provided very helpful suggestions. We loved the house and Colonial Beach. We definitely will be back.

I believe we had the very best cottage in Colonial Beach, with quiet setting, stunning marina view, friendly neighbors, convenience to town and a fabulous seafood market just down the street. Friends who came to visit were impressed with this stylish yet cozy home and enjoyed biking around the waterfront. Marina Sunset was the perfect place to relax and a return visit is in our future. I am so happy to have found this gem and would recommend this as a vacation spot. Thanks!
