Quiet Getaway

Jim and Glenda, THANK YOU for such a wonderful two-night getaway from "the big city". You have a lovely home in a very peaceful location. We loved the view of the marina with all the boats tied up, and it was interesting to watch the crabman go out early in the morning to set out all his traps. Inside, the way you have the upstairs decorated is delightful, comfy and cozy. Walking the streets of Colonial Beach and looking at the architecture while talking with the friendly residents of this quaint little town was a real treat. We also greatly enjoyed the bikes that you provided for a daily ride. (I got a lot of compliments on your pink cruiser as I pedaled around the Point, by the way! :-) We do hope we have the opportunity to come visit again!

We had a great and laid-back time in Colonial beach. Glenda was extremely helpful, and the apartment was well looked after. Some highlights: Tides cafe for great coffee and pastries. Seafood lunch at Solomon Islands. Breathtaking sunset views from the apartment. Wine tasting at Ingleside winery. Thai food at Seaside. Riding bikes around the Island. Roy, Lata, Michelle & Sara

Just Right!

We were looking for a quiet place where we could relax with our son and give him a respite from military training. This was perfect! Colonial Beach in the off-season is such a nice little town! We enjoyed biking around town, watching the swans in the bay and chatting with Jim, Glenda and the neighbors. In previous trips to the east coast it has seems like we have had difficulty avoiding crowds. This time we got the best of both- the coastal beauty in a quiet setting! And staying at Marina Sunset is so much better than a hotel! It is decorated so nicely! It was as comfortable as home!

Relaxing Vacation

Staying at the Marina Sunset was like going to a family members home. It was very clean and comfortable and Jim and Glenda were very friendly & helpful. They have gone out of the way to accomodate their guests. The info they send you before you go to stay there was very informational. I would highly reccomend the Marina Sunset to anyone visiting Colonial Beach. Thanks again to Jim and Glenda for making our visit feel like we were at a family members house. Ron & Pam Keller Middletown, OH

Owner response:Dear Pam & Ron, Yes, we have added many "family members" over the years with the delightful guests we have had at Marina Sunset. It all comes with the small town atmosphere that Colonial Beach provides. Thank you so much for your great feedback, and we hope you will come again soon! Jim & Glenda

Lovely week at Marina Sunset

Guest: Dan & Sue (Pittsburgh, PA)
Date of Stay: 06/04/11 Review Submitted: 06/18/11

We had a very relaxing week at Marina Sunset. It is aptly named because the sunsets viewed from the deck were gorgeous. It was fun watching the osprey and the great blue herons! The accommodations were charming and comfortable and well maintained. It had everything we needed to entertain and cook for our adult children who came to visit. We enjoyed walking along the beach and looking for sea glass.

Owner response:We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Marina Sunset. Yes, the views are incredible and it is truly a bird lovers paradise! We collect seaglass too! We have a big vase filled with various colors and shapes, such a fun way to spend some time at the beach! We hope you will tell your friends about our little riverfront town, and that you will be able to come again some time in the future! Regards, Jim & Glenda, Marina Sunset in Colonial Beach, Virginia

Marina Sunset -- Colonial Beach, VA

The Marina Sunset was a lovely cottage with a fantastic view of sunsets and the water, extremely peaceful location, easy to get to and from. Amenities and appearance of the property were exactly as expected. Wished we had more time to utilize the bicycles -- enjoyed riding early in the morning for the sights, sounds and exercise! Would definitely recommend the property to friends and family. Great location if you want access to the cities outside of Colonial Beach but we loved the quiet serenity there.

Beautiful and quaint! The view from the deck is wonderful! Makes for a relaxing coffee in the morning and a beautiful sunset in the evening. Great set up for our 5 and 2 year old. Would recommend renting a golf cart and be sure to visit the Dockside Restaurant/Blue Herron Pub. There's even a playground at the restaurant for the children! Thank you to Glenda and Jim for a great vacation!

Marina Sunset is a great choice if you're looking for a quiet and cozy place by the water, near the DC/N.VA area. The view is great and the place is well furnished and homely. While feeling very private, it's also good to know that, should you need, the property owners are nearby and accessible.

Marina Sunset was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. This was a last minute trip for us as we were desperately in need of a quiet and peaceful weekend away. The proximity to Northern Virginia was a major plus! The views were breathtaking and the owners were very friendly and accommodating. Even in the off-season, Colonial Beach is charming and beautiful. We will definitely be back.SarahFairfax, VA

What a bright, cheery place to get away. Full of little touches here and there to add to the charm and comfort. The view is so peaceful and a walk along the docks soothing. I'd return again without hesitation.

Marina Sunset is cozy and inviting and the view from the front deck is perfect. The beautiful water view allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves without feeling we had to go anywhere. When we did venture out, Jim provided very helpful suggestions. We loved the house and Colonial Beach. We definitely will be back.

I believe we had the very best cottage in Colonial Beach, with quiet setting, stunning marina view, friendly neighbors, convenience to town and a fabulous seafood market just down the street. Friends who came to visit were impressed with this stylish yet cozy home and enjoyed biking around the waterfront. Marina Sunset was the perfect place to relax and a return visit is in our future. I am so happy to have found this gem and would recommend this as a vacation spot. Thanks!

We had a great stay at the Marina Sunset. We've never been at colonial beach before, so that was a change for us city folks. Despite the weather, we managed to settle in and do some site seeing. I'm sure in the summer there's a lot more going on than in March, so chances are we would be willing to come back and visit. Thanks again for all your trust...hopefully you'll have more confidence in us 20-something year olds :) - William & Catie

"Our Honeymoon"...Thanks a million for letting us use your beach house for our honeymoon. Words cannot express our gratitude! It is so private and cozy here. We really hate to leave today. The view out the deck is priceless. Just like a postcard. We enjoyed sitting on the deck for breakfast and after dinner, just sitting back and taking in the breathtaking view. The binoculars were an added benefit. They helped us watch the birds enjoy their nest. Any they helped us see the crabbers picking up/placing their crab pots. We hardly found it necessary to leave and go to the beach, because it was so relaxing hanging out here. You all have provided everything we needed in your cottage to make our stay more than we could dream of. Be back soon!

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your river house, it was a blast! The kids had a great time playing in the water and on the beach, but I think the golf cart was the biggest hit (with my husband too!) Thank you again...
