Loved my stay in this Gulf Coast, TX Port Aransas house close to beach!
VRBO Bear stayed here - 11/10/2010
This week I traveled with a young family to Port Aransas. I enjoyed a long weekend in this home close to the beach but with an updated and modern feel. The couches in the living room are so comfortable! We found them perfect for relaxing with our morning coffee, evening drinks, and just an afternoon rest with our favorite books. But don’t sit down, or you won’t want to get up!
Stainless steel appliances, great wine glasses, bar seats that face the kitchen, next to elegant table and chairs provide a great setting for good meals with friends and family. The kitchen looks out to a fabulous second story deck with a grill, table and chairs, and plenty of space for family and friends. Kids and dogs will be safe on the deck with a sturdy wrap around railing that’s approximately 4 feet high.
For a great night’s sleep, we found two very comfortable queen beds with lots of pillows and blankets and even LCDs with Dish Satellite TVs to watch movies in bed. The master suite has privacy and its own bathroom, slightly separated from the other two bedrooms but still close enough to hear a child milling about in the night. The kids fit comfortably in the third bedroom with two twin beds, right across from a bathroom.
Labeled “The Tree House”, the living, sleeping, and dining areas are on the second floor. On the ground level, we found a hammock for relaxing outside surrounded by a grassy fenced in area for kids or pets to run around. This vacation rental is fantastic. More friends visited for a day and kept commenting that it is absolutely gorgeous! They were surprised to see such a nicely decorated house that was perfect for entertaining but also kid-friendly so close to the beach and downtown.
We enjoyed dinner and great beer at the Port Aransas Brewery. Try their famous Burgers and sweet potato fries! There are plenty of activities to try as well: Free Tour at the UT Marine Science Center, dolphin tour at Woody’s Sports Center or tour the most famous aircraft carrier, the USS Lexington.
For a perfect relaxing getaway or family vacation, I highly recommend this Port Aransas vacation rental home!

Big Private Solar House, Large Deck, Dogs Ok!
Why the Owner Chose Old Town
We chose this house because of the very friendly neighborhood and because of the layout of the house. With one bedroom and bathroom on the other side of the house of the other two bedrooms and bathroom kids get their "own space" and their own bathroom with a tub! We also really enjoy the big open living / dining / kitchen setup. I insisted on a large deck with a shaded and fenced in yard for our two big dogs.
The Unique Benefits at this House
In 2010 we are proud that we made the investment in renewable energy and installed a solar array on the house! The city inspector told us this is the only vacation property on the island powered by solar energy.
More information about the house; we are within a few blocks of the beach, the closest beach access is off of Sandcastle Drive, which is less known by most vacationers so it is like having local access! It makes it only 4 blocks to the beach, very easy.
Also, we are in close proximity to so many things on the island; golf, fantastic restaurants, birding habitats, etc, but we are able to keep the rental price low compared to other properties because we do not live in a restricted development that requires high homeowners fees.
Owner's Map of Old Town
My husband grew up in Texas and Port Aransas has been a favorite destination of his family for generations. I grew up in Colorado and have always loved the beach. We were very lucky when my husband had the opportunity to spend 2008 consulting on the development of the Wetlands Education Center at the University of Texas Marine Science facility on the island. We purchased the house to live in while he was on assignment. When the project was complete we loved the house so much we decided to keep it in the family so our new baby would have the same opportunity to visit the island that my husband did growing up. We invite you to enjoy your home on the island!

Our family of four had a great time visiting with family and friends while staying at the tree house. We enjoyed having coffee on the back porch in the mornings and sitting in the breeze in the evenings enjoying the hammocks. The location is great to the action of Port Aransas. We rented a large golf cart to fish on the jetties and cruise the beach. The kitchen was well equipped and plenty of room for everyone! We really enjoyed our stay!

We loved that the home runs off of solar power. The owners and managers left a great book of what to see, do and eat. Very clean and a great, quiet location. Satalite TV in all but one room. Lots of space and quiet places to relax. Loved the deck too! Bring your own propane and grill and chill. I highly recommend this vacation home.

I really liked the house but there was some disappointment. I search the houses on amenities and space. My family and I have such a short time together and we work on a budget. I needed washer and dryer due to I had to leave home with limited clothing. I knew there would be a washer and dryer on site but ended up there was not. Although it seemed minor but it did cause us to loose time searching for a laundry mat and going to find something to wear. I talked to the management they told me it was broke, now to go back to see the web page updated that they only let 30 day rentals use the washer and dryer. The grass was very high and needed to be mowed, with a small pet on the property that is a concern. I really loved the house and would most likely return in the near future. I feel the ad was misleading because if there was no washer and dryer to use along with limited linen. If I would known about the W&D I would not have rented the property at this time.
Owner response:Thank you so much for your feedback! The W/D was a little beat up shortly before your stay, so we had to pull it out of commission before you arrived. Since I may not get it replaced before the summer I wanted to be clear that it may not be available before the monthly Winter Texan folks arrive in the fall. I am so very sorry that it was not available for your stay and the inconvenience it caused you and your family. Thank you for your feedback on the tall lawn too, I immediately contacted our lawn crew (the teenager that lives down the street) to get it corrected; I again apologize for the inconvenience it caused. I will stay on top of the lawn trim schedule going forward. Thank you for your compliments on the house, we do everything we can to make your trip to the island enjoyable! - MK.

This home was perfect for the few days we spent in Port Aransas. There was plenty of space for 6 adults plus dogs. Only minutes to the beach and to town, we had everything we needed and were in a perfect location. We will definitely rent this property again.

Our family of seven adults, one two-year old grandson and two dogs had a great time at the Tree House this past week. It was our first time to visit Port Aransas. We were looking for a beach vacation equally distant from the San Antonio area and Houston area From the moment we drove off the ferry, we liked the small, clean, friendly town. The Tree House is close to the beach and all services. The house is very roomy and comfortable. The furnishings are up to date. We cooked all of ours meals in the well equipped kitchen. The beds are comfortable. We appreciated that a high chair is provided and plenty of children's books and mega blocks to enjoy. The deck and fenced yard are great hangouts for adults, kids and dogs. We look forward to coming back to The Tree House.

What a great place, the pictures do not do it justice! We really liked the up to date furniture, appliances and decorations, not cheap stuff like other rental houses. Really does have lots of open space, seems bigger than other houses we have rented before for a similar price. Only con is the Queen size beds, we have a King at home and like a bigger bed, but the Queen was very soft and comfortable (and we were suprized with the down comforter!) We will hopefully be back again next winter.
