We really enjoyed the Cottage!! It was home away from home. It is a gorgeous place. A beautiful cottage. It was perfect for us. We had our 83 year old mother and it worked well for her. A bedroom downstairs and Den and Kitchen were great for her. The rooms are nice size and comfortable. We were close to all places we wanted to visit. We visited the Biltmore and went to Bryson City to ride the train. On Saturday as my niece and I were walking around outside you could hear the Church bells. Sounds that are lost in towns today. The area around the house was beautiful. We also enjoyed the hot tub. It was perfect after a day going on our adventure. The house was well stocked with thing you would need. We will make this the cottage the place to come to when we come to the Asheville Area. Thanks for sharing your little bit heaven with us.
Owner response:Wow! Your description envelops quite a few sights, sounds and things offered at Newfound Cottage that until you stay there, you really don't know exist, do you(?). As I try so desperately to describe the area, it's no wonder I've left some things out ... bells from the church, I'd taken them for granted, suitability for our senior citizens ... I hadn't forgotten about them, just hadn't taken into consideration they could travel with family and be completely comforable. And as I've said before, if you miss having the dirt and grass under your feet, miss the smell of the mountain air, miss the gift your eyes could give you taking in the scenery ... well, you've missed the biggest part of what you came to the mountains for ... haven't you? Thank you so much for your kind remarks and I hope the future holds a return visit for you and yours. God bless.

What a lovely cottage - decorated so impeccably, and it had all we needed there. It was close enough to downtown to make the trip easy but far enough away to feel like we were not "in the city". I so loved the hot tub under the stars with complete privacy. I only wished we could have stayed longer. A great deal too! Perfect for our two teens as there was plenty of room for them to have their own space. Thank you so very much for sharing your lovely cottage with us for the weekend! We'd love to come again.
Owner response:Sometimes an owner wishes they could read the minds of previous guests, and potential guests do too, wondering what they thought. So it's always GREAT when a review is received to tell everyone "well, how was it?". I am glad to know teenagers found the accommodations satisfactory and that the hot tub met your expectations. We hope too you will find a way back to the solitude Newfound Cottage offers. Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for sharing your cottage with us. It was amazing, so peaceful and quiet. We loved the fact we were close enough to Asheville to enjoy what it offered. And once we were through, we could back to your cottage for the peace and quiet. Loved, loved, loved the hot tub and its location. We would sit out there at night and be amazed by the fire flies and stars. Being close to Biltmore and also a plus. You can easily spend several days there. The cottage was stocked with every thing one would need and then some. Enjoyed our visit very much. Thanks for making us feel so welcomed.
Owner response:Peace and quiet is one of the biggest "amenities" offered at Newfound Cottage. This valley is extremely unique in that way due to most of the property here is owned by only a few. That way, no housing developments are here or rental developments. The location is what vacation rental guests place as their top priority, peaceful country setting but close to city activities. If you decide to spend your time at the cottage, there is coffee and cereal provided for breakfast and movies to watch in the evenings. The icing on the cake then is the experience of the hot tub located in the most private and seclulded back yard you could hope to find ... lightning bugs and stars included. Newfound Cottage provides what it takes for you to relax, and short driving times to local activities as well.

The cottage was great. It was very beautiful. The price was very reasonable for the quality of the cabin. We enjoyed the stay very much. Thank you!
Owner response:Price matters. You don't always have to pay an absorbitant nightly rate to get the biggest bang for your buck. My previous guests now know it's high quality at an affordable rate for these times. I had rather rent more often, and make a little money, than to rent just ever so often, and try to get "rich" off very few reservations at an outrageous rate.

My brand new husband and I stayed here for our "mini-moon" after getting married in early March. We chose this particular house for two reasons: First that it was completely secluded, according to the pictures and listing and second, that it had a hot tub. This is a very cute house and it does have good amenities, but the owners house is in full view about 100 yards in front of the cottage. This was exceptionally disapointing to me. The picture listed "calming view from front deck" is obviously a very old photo. The little building in the photo has completely fallen down and there is a very large house now sitting on the hill. We did call the owner and she put her husband on the phone who told us that we misunderstood and basically made no effort at all to rectify the situation. When something says secluded it means "not seen" so this is hardly secluded. I think that the owners should list a new updated photo of the view showing their house and maybe not go on about it's privateness. Sure, it's not a subdivision, but it's certainly not out there on there on the mountain alone as the listing clearly suggests. If we had been expecting another house to be in the front yard we wouldn't have been so upset, but I don't feel as though we got what was advertised or what we were looking for.
Owner response:Yes my family does live on the property, about 500 feet down the road (2 acres away) and I do apologize for your disappointment; that this piece of information was not discovered at the time of your reservation. Because the property is so beautiful and serene and other guests have enjoyed it so much for that very purpose, it is has never been a problem. The cottage is located on private property, there is total serenity here and peace abounds. Again, I apologize the property and setting was not what you had imagined. It is our hope that you will return for another visit during the summer months when the forest is green and lush and that you will find serenity and peace here at Newfound Cottage. As can be read in past reviews , even since the existence of our home since 2006, our goal being here is to be helpful, offer assitance through bad weather, to accommodate guests in any way possible and maintain the cottage to our exacting high standards. I hope future memories of your honeymoon at Newfound Cottage will bring pleasant thoughts of your time together.

My girlfriends and I really enjoyed our stay at Newfound Cottage. It was in the perfect spot in the Asheville area. Downtown, West Asheville, and the Biltmore were all easily accessible. In addition, the hot tub was a wonderful ending to each day. The cottage is so clean and well kept. The pictures don't do it justice. We hope to make a trip to Newfound Cottage once (if not twice) a year from now on.
Owner response:In some cases I have found you get what you pay for. Then there are those times when you find you simply got better than you paid for, you got your moneys worth and then some. As my guests are finding out, Newfound Cottage is ... simply worth more than you pay for it, and some "...hope to make a trip to Newfound Cottage once (if not twice) a year from now on". Both my husband and I put our best efforts forth in keeping Newfound Cottage in good shape. And so when that is literally pointed out within a guests review, we know our efforts have been worth it. We know they feel they got more than they paid for. As I always say, you'll fee it's your hard earned money well spent!

This was a great place! My husband and I came up to celebrate our first anniversary. The house was perfect for us. It was secluded but not so secluded that you felt that you were in the wilderness somewhere. We were close enough to enjoy other sights as well - including the Biltmore House, Chimney Rock, and we drove down the Blue Ridge Pkwy on the way home. The listing describes the house really well and everything that we needed was provided. The owners were also helpful, they were close enough to help if we needed but far enough away as to not be intrusive. Would recommend to others and would stay here again. Thanks for the great stay!
Owner response:"Thank you" to these guests for taking a moment out of their day to write a reveiw. Privacy and seclusion is what's promoted at Newfound Cottage. As these guests found, it is the best of both worlds, the country setting without feeling stranded. I do put great effort into what's written on the listing. I offer as much information there as potential guests care to read. As the saying goes though, a picture (or photo) may paint a thousand words, but as with any good vacation rental, staying there, staying at Newfound Cottage, is the only sure way to experience what others have. As I always say "you won't be disappointed!".

The photos of Newfound Cottage do not do it proper justice! It's an elegant, yet comfortable, well-stocked family friendly environment. Our children (ages 8, 6, and 4) loved the cottage, the scenery, and the hiking available. I think the ultimate compliment is when you sleep as well as you do at home, and they slept like babies. As annual visitors to the area, we will definitely be staying at Newfound Cottage again and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to the beautiful and magestic Smoky Mountains. Way better than any hotel in the area-so relaxing we did not want to leave.
Owner response:I truly do consider it a grand compliment when my guests children get a good night's sleep! It can be unnerving to children being in a strange place. And children always play a big part in where we go for vacation as well as accommodations, so out of all the places to come to, and out of all the places out-of-towners can stay, my spirits were truly lifted in receiving the news of a return visit.

Dear Tammy and Matt, I want to thank you for such a comfortable and friendly welcome. The Cottage veiws are beautiful and the house was everything we expected it to be, perfect . Our stay was so nice. We enjoyed going to the Biltmore Estates and the kids enjoyed the Fun Depot. Staying with you guys will be in our hearts and memories forever. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to stay in first class. Sincerely, Lisa S.
Owner response:Comfort is the name of the game in the vacation rental industry. Although most hit the mark, it's truly double the effort with the great outdoors to contend with keeping the outside nice, then still being able to offer luxury on the interior. Newfound Cottage can accommodate both of those "requests" with those looking for the city amenities with a country setting. Located on a mountainside in the country but you can be in downtown in 20 minutes! Newfound Cottage does not disappoint.

My sweetheart and I visited Newfound Cottage in December, 2009. The weekend before our trip there was a gigantic snowstorm in Western North Carolina, and we feared that we wouldn't be able to get to the cottage with so much snow! The owners called us with updates after the storm, letting us know that the cottage was ready for us and the long driveway was being cleared for our arrival. When we arrived, the house was gorgeous, and they went out of their way to make sure that everything was just right. The amount of information that Tammy has organized about restaurants, sightseeing, and other interesting things in the area is incredible- and without internet access, essential! I have to say, we didn't mind being unplugged for the week one bit. Our cell phones (verizon) had reception at the house, which was nice. The hot tub was fantastic, the beds comfortable, and all the little extras provided were top-quality. We watched a few of the DVDs provided and enjoyed relaxing on the comfortable furniture and watching TV. Every corner of the house was thoughtfully decorated and spotlessly clean! There's a grocery store nearby and we cooked fantastic meals with the cookware at the house. I don't think there's one thing I would have added. It was very nice to have the simple breakfast foods and coffee for the mornings. When we got around to leaving the cottage, we spent time in Asheville and the surrounding area, which had tons of fun things to do, even in the snow: the Biltmore, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas and well worth the trip (check in with the Visitor's Bureau to see if there are any discounts when you go!); the Western North Carolina Farmer's Market (amazing produce and locally-produced goods); a bunch of restaurants in downtown Asheville (check out Tammy's guide, really, she won't steer you wrong!); and the exhibits and galleries around Pack Place. I almost forgot to mention the view- oh my, you'll just have to see it for yourself! We spent time on the porch at sunset just admiring the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was a wonderful, romantic vacation which we will remember always, not least for the wonderful Newfound Cottage and the kindness and helpfulness of its owners. We've already recommended it to friends thinking about an Asheville vacation. Thanks again!!
Owner response:Ah, snow in the mountains! May be troublesome for some vacation rental owners, but my husband and I know there are those out there who don't get to experience it ... and some a little more than others :) Newfound Cottage can be a respit to those who want a high-end vacation rental on the inside and yet located and surrounded by God's glory. it offers as much as 2 or 6 guests care to indulge in and can accommodate adults and kids alike. My husband and I have stayed in places where we truly did feel stranded ... and we were in a hotel in the city! So I wanted to provide as much information for my guests as I could to let them know I care about them being able to find their way around. The location of Newfound Cottageis in the mountains west of Asheville and makes for an easy drive to downtown or local/area attractions. Newfound Cottage has the best of both worlds.

The listing description was dead on, the property was extremely clean and nestled on a beautiful mountainside. We thought the price was great as well. I would recommend this rental to friends and family. My family and I rented the cottage just before Christmas when Asheville was hit with 17" of snow. We lost power and were essentially stuck. Doesn't sound like the best vacation I know but here's the relevant part. Matt and Tammy went above and beyond reasonable expectations for our benefit. They walked necessary supplies to us, up hill in the snow. They helped dig the road out for our departure and were accomodating in any way possible. They let us borrow their sled and shared supplies from their home. Supplies that were much needed. I am confident they would have taken us into their home had it become necessary. We'll forever remember our trip and the kindness Matt and Tammy showed us. This is a great property and these are great folks to do business with.
Owner response:Kindness goes a long way when folks need it. It was our pleasure to be of what assitance we could be. Those of us who've grown up with snow know it has its pros and cons. I love the snow myself and my son is still young enough as well to still enjoy sledding and can't wait for it when winter comes around. One of those cons though is if you're at a vacation rental and find yourself dealing with it , it's nice to have the owners nearby willing to help. So we're a couple of acres from the cottage and can certainly help and are happy to do so when we see the need.

What a beautiful, secluded hideaway! If you are in need of peace and quiet this is your place. Immaculately clean and well kept. The hot tub is awesome.
Owner response:Thank you so much for pointing out the secluded aspect of the property. So many places, from what my guests have told me, do not offer the setting potentail guests are looking for. Wanna get away? Newfound Cottage is the place to be if you truly want to "get away from it all". It's far enough off the beaten path to get the feeling of seclusion and isolation, but still only minutes from stores, shops and local attractions. The surrounding landscape is gorgeous and the atmosphere is one of pure peace and tranquility. As you approach the cottage, keep an eye out as you might spot up to a dozen or so turkeys as they quietly move about in an adjacent field, alongside the road. Also watch for the Red-headed Woodpecker, flying around from tree to tree. Inside the cottage, you'll find more ammenities than you'll need to accommodate your stay. Everything a home can offer is found there. To say Newfound Cottage is fully-equipped would be an understatement. After being gone most of the day hiking or site-seeing, when you walk inside the cottage, you really feel like you're home. Newfound Cottage, inside and out, is definitely a thing of beauty that you should experience for yourself.
Owner response:Isn't that what a vacation rental is suppose to be ... "...really feel like you're home"?. I think even small things are important in the approach, or how you offer your vacation rental, in the decor as well as amenities. Everything at Newfound Cottage is truly as I describe it, wooded private property, close to town, country setting (yes, almost Mayberry) and yet you can "stay in" for the evening and still feel like you've had a vacation simply watching a movie on the flat screen ... it's all in the details. When the accommodations hit home and the setting offers more than you expected, I think it just can't get any better when that's all offered at at Newfound Cotage. I do hope you'll plan to stay with us again.

The cottage was exactly what we were looking for! Everything was even better than described on the Internet! Clean, well decorated, comfortable sofas for TV viewing, well stocked kitchen, great tasting water, private hot tub, comfortable beds, and more! We have already recommended this place to friends and plan to return ourselves. ~
Owner response:In writing a description for your vacation rental it is sometimes hard to put into words what in reality guests will see and experience. So in saying my house was better than described is actually heart-warming to me. They experienced what in words I couldn't convey! It always too brings joy to me for my previous guests to refer my house to their friends, because then I know I've done more than one thing right. I am always adding to the provisions of my house - big additions or small additions, whatever I feel my guests will enjoy - so future or returning guests will feel special! Rent Newfound Cottage! I promise you'll arrive and leave knowing it was your hard earned money well spent.

Thanks Tammy, for a great place to stay the Cottage was just as advertised it was very clean, and convenient to down town Asheville we planned our trip for Christmas week to see our favorite band Donna the Buffalo at the Orange Peel the show was awesome and so was the Orange peel what a great venue to see a concert, we also enjoyed the local restaurants. We were however very disappointed with the Biltmore Estate (what a rip off I would never recommend anyone wasting their money on a trip to the Biltmore). when we planned our trip I was concerned with accessibility being our trip was planned for the middle of winter on a mountain however after being there I cannot imagine it would ever be a problem. thanks again and I would highly recommend your cottage to anyone visiting Asheville.
Owner response:Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Newfound Cottage. Keeping my cottage clean is top priority for me. The Biltmore Estate is the second biggest reason for most visits to Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway being the first. If you've never been to the Estate before, checking out their website is a great way to see what it's all about. The location of the cottage is on the side of a mountain, but not so far up that in the winter you have to worry about how you're going to get down. Newfound Cottage is in the country but minutes to town!

New Found Cottage is an great, cozy place to spend a relaxing vacation. The view and the seclusion can not compare to any other rentals in the area. The cottage is equipt with everything you could imagine at a retreat away from home. The owners have thought of items beyond the normal, such as varieties of spices, condiments, teas, pots, pans of all sizes and even board games and DVDs. The covered hot tub on the back porch is the perfect place to spend a relaxing evening. The cottage is kept very clean and has always been immaculately stocked upon arrive. Also the owner has supplied maps, brochures and information about places to eat and entertainment. Even though the cottage is not that close to Asheville or major towns, the scenic drive through the mountains to the cottage is worth every extra mile. I would highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone who is looking for something beyond your basic hotel or rental that is crammed in with other houses right on top of one another. Most likely you will be as happy as we were with our stays at New Found Cottage and will want to come back year after year!
Owner response:I'm always so thrilled to have return guests at Newfound Cottage. Living close to the cottage affords me the opportunity to look after my vacation rental the way I would want it to be if I were a guest. I do have stated on my listing that the cottage is 8.7 miles from the Asheville City Limits, 5.7 miles off of I-40 and it takes only 15 minutes to get to the middle of Asheville (using in-town roads - not the interstate). So taking those facts into consideration, I personally do feel Newfound Cottage is very close to a major town/city, that being Asheville, as well as all the major attractions therein - 25 minutes to the Biltmore Estate and an entrance to the Blue Ridge Pakway. Everyone who bothered to mention distance in our guestbook has stated how centrally located Newfound Cottage is to things in and around Asheville. And as these guests have pointed out, you'll truly be happy you found Newfound Cottage!

I loved staying at the Newfound Cottage. It was convenient to Biltmore and downtown, but was far enough away to be peaceful. I asked my wife to marry me here, so it will always be among the most memorable vacations we will ever take. The cottage was nicely appointed, and the area guides were great for a couple of out-of-towners. It was extremely clean, you can tell from the way the place is kept up that the owner takes great pride in preparing it for her guests. I would absolutely recommend staying here if you are planning a trip away. The house is as nice on the inside as the pictures make it out to be. You will not be dissapointed!

Newfound Cottage is an excellent place to get away for a quiet retreat with your significant other, or just to enjoy some peace in the mountains. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. Rooms are on the smallish side, but all the amenities make up for it. There's even a front porch to relax on while dinner is on the grill. My favorite part was the hot tub on the covered porch on the back of the house. Bedrooms are up a steep set of stairs, bathroom is downstairs, so if you do have trouble with stairs you might look elsewhere, but that is the only thing I can think of which might be a problem for some people.
Owner response:I would like to thank this guest for actually stating Newfound Cottage is in the mountains. What potential guests don't know is that the further west you travel from Asheville, the more into the mountains you get. As to this guests mention of the bedrooms, in the past were built as big as we could afford. See, we built the cottage with our own hands and money (and it took us 3 yrs. to finish), so our budget didn't allow for any bigger than a 10x12. With these guests having stayed in August of '08, they didn't have the experience of our new addition in September of '09, which created 2 new master suites - one downstairs one upstairs, and with the one original upstairs bedroom having access to the original downstairs bath. Now Newfound Cottage is a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom 1400 square foot house. Oh, and the same staircase is there accessing the two upstairs bedrooms, but I assure you inspectors passed the incline of the staircase with no question (we've never had anyone else mention the stairs before). They are completely safe. Newfound Cottage is truly a jewel in the mountains and you'll be glad you found it!

Newfound Cottage was perfect for my sabbatical in the mountains! The owner was very kind and helpful when I booked the cottage. She provided me with lots of information and answered all of my questions. The directions I received were correct and easy to follow. The cottage itself is situated on a really lovely mountain property. It is very well maintained and includes all of the amenities I looked for. The decor is very pretty and comfortable! The cottage is located very close to all of the attractions in the area, yet far enough away to remain secluded. I recommend spending at least one day in and around the cottage to get the full feel of how truly peaceful and tranquil it is. I spent several evenings in the hot tub watching the night fall as the fireflies danced in the woods nearby. It was truly magical! I would definitely go back again and I would recommend it highly to a friend.
Owner response:I always hope those who call have questions if they've never been to Asheville before. I was born and raised here (born at Memorial Mission Hospital, lived in west Asheville for 23 yrs. and have lived in Leicester since 1990) and although I may not be a concierge, I am more than happy to try and find the answer to a question you may not be able to or direct you to a website I found helpful. Spending time at Newfound Cottage I feel is a must, that's really the only way you can get a true "feel" for the house and property. It is, however, as this guest pointed out, very close to Asheville and so guests find it very easy to go downtown for a meal and then come back to the cottage for a nightcap of relaxing in the hot tub (along with small wonders as lightning bugs, you may also hear our local coyotes ... yes, I said coyotes!). I know sometimes when one finds a special place it's tempting to keep it to oneself, but for those who share their knowledge of Newfound Cottage have really let their friends in on a great find. We, and the lightning bugs (and coyotes) aim to please :)

My husband and I stayed in Newfound Cottage in July 06, the description of the cabin is absolutely true, it is in perfect condition, and in a beautiful location, the cabin does not lack for anything, it has been well thought out, the owners live on the property and are very nice and accomodating, they have information in the cabin on their favorite places to dine, we spent alot of time in downtown Asheville, the culture is so diverse, do not miss Greenlife Market, it is awesome, and the shopping is the best, also when eating out make sure to check out The Early Girl Eatery and Tupelo Cafe, Asheville is a wonderful place to vacation, we will be going back again this summer.
Owner response:As I say in the description, my residence is 2 acres from the cottage, and so we really consider it our guest house, and built it as such 11 yrs. ago. So with that thought, you are renting a house that is, and was built, for guests. That may sound a strange thing to point out, but it being within the proximity to our residence that it is, it couldn't be anything else. And so we are able to clean it, maintain it, and offer our guests help when other owners, who don't live anywhere near their vacation rental, cannot. In living in the same city our vacation rental is located, we're able to offer information and personal experience that can only come with living full-time in an area. So we're able to give information and recommendations as well as let guests know when some roads or interstates may be closed for snow or construction, and what the weather has been like lately, things like that, and are glad we're able to do so. If you don't live there, you can't do that. We do feel we have a slight edge over other owners and feel our reviews offer others a glimpse of what Newfound Cottage as their accommodations will be like. Whether it be winter, summer, spring or fall, Newfound Cottage has soemthing, or a different experience, to offer everyone.
