Tahoe Mountain Lodge is a 3,700 square foot log cabin located on Tahoe Mountain in the Angora Highlands neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe. It sits close to the summit on the western side of the mountain, on the slope facing down towards Fallen Leaf Lake with a beautiful view of Mt Tallac. This is one of the highest located houses in the neighborhood and catches the last rays of the sun as it sets behind Mt Tallac in the evening. The house backs up to miles of forest service land on the east and north, and there’s a hiking trail leading to the top of Tahoe Mountain that can be accessed by about a 100 yard hike through the forest in the back of the house. Tahoe Mountain Lodge
Year Purchased: 1999
Why the Owner Chose Angora Highlands
This is my second home and I bought it because it's a beautiful house in a gorgeous location.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The house is the highest located house on Tahoe Mountain with a gorgeous view of Mt Tallac in the west. Being highest on the mountain means this house catches the last rays of sunlight as the sun sets behind Mt Tallac. The house borders to miles of National Forest Service land in the back (to the east) and to the north is conservancy land. The house is in the middle of most major nature attractions in Tahoe such as Fallen Leaf Lake, Angore Lakes, Desolation Wilderness, Emerald Bay, Mt Tallac, Angora Ridge and much more and yet it's also very close to Heavenly Ski resort and the casinos.
Some of the best hiking around starts from this trailhead
A very good hike from the desolation wilderness trailhead, on the way to the peak of Mt Tallac

We stayed Dec. 26 2011 -Jan.2 2012. The listing description is accurate, the photos reflected the rental's appearance spot-on and the property is obviously well-maintained. The location is quiet, and off the beaten path yet it allows ready access to both South Lake Tahoe and the more west/north lake attractions (emerald bay, homewood, Tahoe City areas etc.). We went skiing at Heavenly 4 times during our week and it was only a 15 minute drive with traffic. House's electronics like TV-Stereo are state of the art, pool table is a very nice touch. Kitchen is great set-up for larger groups with multiple cooks -- appliances etc. are all more than aqequate though seem to be getting a bit on the tired side in some cases when compared to the A+ rest of the house - same story on bathrooms. Extremely nice beds and bedroom set-up, great for two+ families. The security deposit is a bit high when compared to other rentals and was a little bit of a worry for me at time of rental, but it was fully returned in a timely manner and I thought the explanation for having a larger security deposit (prevent careless renters & large party groups) was reasonable. Bottom line - great rental, as advertised, nothing to worry about from the renter perspective, you'll have a great time.

This is the second year in a row that my office has made the trip to Tahoe and stayed at the Tahoe Mountain Lodge. We looked North Lake but could not find a house that matched this house for the cost. We could have spent double the money in North Lake but this house is excellent and accommodates a large group or up to 4 families so we just decided to return. I would highly recommend this house. We skied Kirkwood and it was about 45 minutes away, well worth the drive. I hiked to Fallen Leaf Lake only about a 15 minutes snowshoe and I was able to drop people off at the casinos while the others skied. The location makes it ideas for a group with varied interests.

I stayed at the Tahoe Mountain Lodge and would highly recommend this home to anyone who is going to be staying in the South Lake Area. It is perfect for four couples, or couples with kids or in my case 14 co-workers that were not interested in sharing beds because the rooms are large enough to allow for people to sleep on the floor. We never felt cramped, the house has a very open floor plan. I initially was hesitant about the house due to the 15 page contract I had to sign but I just received my security deposit back with no issues. I have rented homes in SunRiver, Or, Tahoe and many other locations and this was the nicest home I have stayed in yet.

I recently rented out this cabin for a weekend with 9 of my friends. We had a fantastic time and would definitely stay here again. The cabin sleeps 8 people comfortably and up to twelve without feeling cramped. It was clean, spacious and had plenty of things to keep us all occupied. Brand new pool table, hot tub, wireless speakers throughout and a long table at which to play poker. If the owner were going to tweak anything, I'd suggest adding a tv to the room where the pool table is, maybe some comfier furniture to the first floor and have a poker set in house for guests to use. Really though these suggestions would just be making this great cabin even better. I look forward to staying here again next year!
