Location: Moab, Utah, USA (30 Min. to Moab from Castle Valley; 1 1/2 hour to GJ airport)
Accommodations: House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)
In this peaceful 5 acre oasis and green-built home you can rejuvenate, relax, be creative, and choose to enjoy any of the activities that this stunning area is justifiably famous for. World-class rock climbing, river rafting, photography, mountain or road biking, hiking and exploring the canyons and mesas. Castleton Tower, Arches National Park, Porcupine Rim and the La Sal Mountains provide dramatic views and are visible, as well as easily accessed from this beautiful, private property. Photographers and painters delight in this landscape.
Leaving the busy tourist town of Moab for Castle Valley, you arrive in a green and peaceful high desert valley, turn off on a little dirt lane and park in front of an attractive pergola that frames the entrance to the home. You may choose from three private patios for star-gazing, bird watching or lounging while surrounded by native landscaping and established shade tress. The night sky is vibrant, the Milky Way seems close enough to touch and the stars are larger than you may have ever noticed from any other vantage point.
Inside, the blend of finishes mixes tasteful lighting, pine wood, porcelain tile, artisan plaster and granite counters with views of the sky, mesas and red rock towers; the house affords spectacular views from all aspects. The furnishings include a new Tempurpedic foam queen size bed, full length sleeper sofa, 2nd Queen Air Bed, stereo, large flat screen for viewing DVDs. The kitchen and dining area is fully equipped and thoughtfully designed for enjoyable meal preparation and dining.
DVDs can be rented in Moab. There is no cable on the property. Wi-fi provided. House has decent stereo and eclectic CD collection. The bathroom features a large clawfoot antique tub for soaking (note: no shower inside, but for 3 seasons there's a great solar shower outside on a private patio) and a classic pedestal sink, as well as a new Maytag front-loading washing machine. The climate permits clothes drying without a dryer, in a hour or less by hanging it on the most scenic clothesline in the country. You can feel good about reducing your carbon imprint while you go out to play in the red rock canyons or lounge serenely with a good book.
Moab is about a 30 minute drive away along the incredibly gorgeous Colorado River Senic By-Way (Highway 128). During "the season" Moab has the bustle of a busy tourist town, featuring mountain bike rentals, guided river rafting and 4x4 jeeping; in the winter months it's quiet and you can meet locals easily. Moab offers excellent grocery shopping at the natural foods store, Moonflower Market, and City Market, a large regional grocery chain. You will find several very fine restaurants and a couple of good ones; several coffee shops and good shops for bike rentals. Just outside of town is the entrance to Arches National Park, or Island In the Sky entrances a few miles further North or the Needles section of Canyonlands Park to the South.

This house is the perfect place to rejuvenate, re-create, and reflect. It is beautifully built in a simple, elegant manner with sophisticated finishes. The setting affords complete privacy, while providing sweeping vistas of stupendous desert geology and immense skies. Generous decks and colorful and varied native plantings surround the house, drawing one outside to enjoy the lovely, garden oasis planted with mature trees, shrubs and flowers. This is without doubt a small bit of Eden in a lovely south western desert valley. Bring some good reading and a sun hat ......... enjoy!

The photos really don't do it justice - and when we walked in, we knew we'd chose the best possible place for our vacation. This house is so beautiful, and the views are to die for. Thank you for making this available to us! Amy S. 2008
