We stayed here with our 19 old son in March 2012 and were very comfortable. The apartment is in an excellent location to visit Princes Street and all the city centre tourist attractions. Many good restaurants and bars in close proximity, however, Cumberland Street is very quiet. Apartment is well maintained with a well equipped kitchen. Highly recommended.

Just back from a long weekend in this lovely flat. Very warm and welcoming. Great location. We managed to get parked right outside the flat and didn't use the car again as it was so easy to walk everywhere. Owners are very friendly and answered any questions we had. Would recommend this flat to friends and family. Thanks a lot.

Top spec apartment in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town. It is well furnished, well equipped and is warm and comfortable. A real home from home. I can't think of anything that has been missed in terms of facilities/equipment. The owners are helpful and friendly and made the whole transaction seamless. We found Leo's Beanery, just around the corner in Howe Street excellent for breakfast. They open from 8am onwards. We had dinner at the Magnum in Albany Street which I can recommend and also ate at The Honours, Martin Wishart's Brasserie in North Castle Street which is super - as long as you are able to get a reservation. Many thanks!

We've just returned from a visit in Di and Wattie's apartment in Edinburgh - our family of four including children ages five and seven. We have stayed in about 10 HomeAway properties in the past five years in the UK, France, Switzerland and the US and Di and Wattie's flat is by far the nicest we've ever encountered. Firstly, the apartment itself is beautiful and flows very nicely. Each room is large and has loads of sun. The rooms are connected via a large rectangular entryway so the overall feeling is very cozy and connected, yet all rooms have heavy high quality doors helping to manage sound and privacy - super handy when the children went to bed. The flat is the best equipped we've ever encountered. The dishware, flatware and cookware is at least as high a quality as we have at home, and all in perfect condition. There was not a single need that went unmet, from the top quality corkscrew to the egg cups to the big ironing board and two hair dryers. The appliances (toaster, dishwasher, gas hob, etc) are top quality. And it is CLEAN. Honestly, I returned home to do a good scrubbing of my own kitchen, this flat inspired me so! The flat is located a stone's flow from tons of pubs, restaurants and boutiques (and a Sunday market in Stockbridge) yet is blissfully quiet at night. We had such a fantastic long weekend in Edinburgh and squeezed so much into such a short stay. But the real highlight for all of us was returning each evening to our little home from home in New Town, Edinburgh. If HomeAway gave out awards to star properties Di and Wattie's flat would be sure to win top prize - a real example for how great the self-catering experience can be. On top of it all, the flat offers an extremely good value. We'll be back for sure!! Thanks Di!! The Van Bendeden family, Geneva, Switzerland

We stayed here the first week in July and couldn't have been more pleased. The apartment was exactly as pictured, and it felt more like being a guest in someone's beautifully decorated home than staying in a rental apartment. Di made everything easy in terms of payment and keys, and there was a great notebook in the kitchen with all the helpful information one needed. The location was excellent, with shops, cafes, and restaurants within easy walking distance. The bus got you to the center of town in just a few minutes. We enjoyed walking down the street to the neighborhood pub for a pint and internet access. We would highly recommend this apartment!

This Edinburgh apt. was exactly how it was described and more. The apt. was so clean, I thought I was home. The information book left in the apt. by Wattie & Di answered all our questions and gave us many suggestions for restaurants, sightseeing and even bus schedules. The rooms were spacious and bright. An added benefit was a private concert as I came home from the market by the neighbor across the hall. I recommend this property very highly. If you want to taste the real flavor of Edinburgh, come to Wattie & Di's apt. You won't regret your decision. Lori from USA

We had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful apartment for 4 nights. It's spacious, very well appointed, and in a great location. An easy (albeit largely uphill) walk to all the sights, including the gorgeous Botanical Gardens and all the attractions of the Royal Mile. Di and Wattie could not have been nicer to deal with. Everything went so smoothly and I felt that I had made friends before even setting foot in beautiful Edinburgh. What appeals to me about staying in an apartment rather than a hotel (in addition to the fact that it's generally a much better value) is that you get to explore neighborhoods that you otherwise might not. Staying at 55 Cumberland Street felt like coming home each night and if my travels ever take me back to Edinburgh, I would definitely stay there again.

This note was left on the kitchen table for me:- This apartment has been a wonderful place to stay. It welcomed us as did Edinburgh - both welcoming and comfortable. You have a beautiful country - I hope to visit again. If or when I do, you will hear from me. I wish you well. Thank you. Terry I echo Terry's comments. Edinburgh was everything I hoped it would be - and having your apartment to call home made it just perfect (or should I say brilliant!) Thank you. Shirley

My two sons and I stayed at six VRBO sites in as many weeks on a trip to Europe recently. This was our favorite. It was clean and comfortable with plenty of room. The decor was inviting, but not cluttered. The kitchen was large and well-equipped, and there was a full sized washer and dryer. The beds were comfortable, and I slept great! It is in a good location. Just down the street is a well-stocked market for groceries, and a bus stop, although the center of town is within walking distance. There are a few quirks about the flat, which are easily managed, and is part of its charm. Despite their bank losing my check after the owners had deposited it in Scotland, we were easily able to work out an agreeable alternative for payment. WIFI was not included, but there was a service online that we purchased for a reasonable rate since we were blogging daily. The owners have been very attentive, and have responded promptly to all of my emails. As much as we thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing in Edinburgh, we enjoyed coming home to this inviting apartment equally as much at the end of each day.

My husband and I, along with another couple, enjoyed this lovely flat in Edinburgh in September 2010. It offers a great value, a beautiful, quiet and safe location and it is spotless. Although we were four adults in the flat, we were extremely comfortable and not at all in each others way. Each couples had their own shower and bathroom. The kitchen is very well equipped and the flat's furnishings are lovely. Although the flat does not offer WiFi, there is a lovely pub at the end of the street, where one can enjoy a pint and touch base with home. We will not hesitate to recommend this flat to our friends. Wattie and Di were fabulous to deal with.

Everything about this apartment and its location is excellent. The only drawback is the lack of free parking available. Everything with our booking was handled promptly, courteously and professionally. The apartment is located in a very convenient and nice area. The furnishings in the apartment are very tasteful and pleasant. There is plenty of space and the quality of all appliances and furniture is top-notch. If you are driving a car to Edinburgh, be prepared to pay a lot for parking or having to move your car around a lot. I parked for free at a Lothian Buses Park & Ride lot, but this was inconvenient and somewhat dangerous (far away and "at own risk").
Owner response:I agree that the only downside of our apartment is the lack of free parking. I always stress to anyone who asks that the last thing you want anywhere in Edinburgh is a car. One of the delights of the city is the fact that the centre is surprisingly small and so you can walk everywhere - or use the excellent public transport. The on street parking in Cumberland Street is free from Friday 5.30pm until Monday 8.30am. Outwith these times it costs £1.20 per hour from 8.30am - 5.30pm after which it is free again until the next morning. The problem is you can only put 4 hours in at a time and so would have to keep returning to the car to top it up - not good! Buddy's idea of taking his car to the Park & Ride is excellent. I use it a lot with no problems at all. Walking is the very best way to see the city anyway - taking different routes every day is fascinating - finding some lovely hidden places, bars, restaurants, shops etc. I love it! Di x

"We just returned from a 2 wk vacation in Scotland and Ireland. While in Scotland we stayed in an apartment in Edinburgh. It was wonderful. The apt was clean and nicely appointed. We were on vacation with our 16 yr old son. He enjoyed having his own room with shower. The apt was very comfortable, clean and had a full kitchen with tea and coffee waiting on the counter. The washer and dryer was very helpful as we only brought carry-on luggage. It was great to continue on our journey to Ireland with clean clothes. It was a short walk to all the major attractions in Edinburgh. We were there for the Easter weekend. The festivities in the town center were wonderful. The restuarants were excellent. We did not have a bad meal. Di has a book on the table in the kitchen with everything you could need to know about eating, siteseeing etc. After a long day of siteseeing you can go back to the apt. where it is quiet for a great nights sleep. Di was a wonderful person to work with. She helped us with our plans and made our trip flawless. We would definitely recommend this appartment. Thanks Di!"

The apartment was just beautiful and had everything we could have asked for. My parents and I were more than pleased when we arrived. Di And Wattie made everything so easy and provided the utmost in service. The location of the flat couldn't have been better either. We were just a short walk to the shops and major attractions that Edinburgh has to offer . Next time I am in town I will definately look to stay here again.

This flat is really really ideal; location is good; easy to get to the castle/royal mile district; yet in more of a quiet area. There is a great pub just down the street. The owners have left wonderful information in the unit to find fun spots to eat and drink. The flat is newly remodeled, super clean, quiet. Since the location is in a neighborhood you have the experience that you actually live there. We highly recommend it!! P.S. if you love hot baths; it has a wonderful bathtub!! Laurie and Gary
