Not as advertised. Property not maintained. Cannot recommend.

Not recently renovated as advertised. Broken window and doors, many lights burned out or missing. Kitchen was in the dark. WI-FI didn't work. Water was shut off for an entire day. Shoddy, broken furniture. Dirty, stained rugs. Fireplace didn't work. Coffee pot had been left on too many times and was permanently burned. Remodeling going on nearby in the building late at night (hammering and bumping). E-mailed owners. No response to e-mails. Phoned and spoke with Scott who said he might be able to find a maintenance person to replace the bulbs and would call me back. He did not. Regarding the broken window (the seal had separated from the window, exposing the edge of the glass), he suggested someone must have opened it wrong. I followed up with another e-mail when we returned home. This one was answered and he did agree the apartment had some problems. He doubted that there was noise late at night because we were the only ones who complained. He said if we'd contacted him earlier he could have helped. I reminded him of the phone call, and he said he honestly didn't remember it! Here is the exact response from the last e-mail: "I am sorry, really do not remember the phone call but then I take so many every day I can't say I didn't get it. Normally I am very good about following up on these types of items and I have 3 people that I use in Oceanside to deal with them in person." We'd have thought someone would walk through this apartment and note these problems before renting it. Property is not as advertised. The location was lovely--this apartment just isn't cared for. Won't do business with on-the-sand again.
Owner response:We visited the unit a few days after the guest had left. There were a number lights that were out, but we found replacements bulbs for most of them right in the unit. As for the phone call, it must have happened and somehow I miss placed my notes since I cannot imagine the guest would lie about this. Noise at night is not allowed in the complex and can immediately be reported to security for resolution. The HOA president lives just down the hall and does not allow noise such as this, but if a call had been made to me I would have contacted security directly and had it stopped. Upon returning home the client wrote with a list of complaints and also asked for a 40% refund. Somehow I did not believe the complaints, nor their attempts to notify me of the problems were sufficient for a refund of this nature. We have had numerous guests stay in this unit and they have loved it. We have a couple that comes every February & March because the location and state of the unit exceeds all of their expectations. It really is a fabulous unit but we are at the end of a long season and a deep cleaning has been scheduled during the down time.
