We are located in the most desirable location in Santa Barbara, the Historic West Beach Area, steps away from the beach, Stearns Wharf, Harbor, Public Pool with large kiddy pool, World-class dining, and downtown shops, including our own local farmer's market. Leave your car and parking worries behind.
Within blocks are a European deli and market, bakery and sandwich shop, three wineries and a grocery store leaving little need to leave the neighborhood. In addition there are bike rentals, Segway rentals, peddle surrey rentals, a skate park, the Chase Palm Park with a merry-go-round and the site of a craft fair each Sunday that lines the beach boardwalk. The Santa Barbara Zoo and the Bird Sanctuary are an easy mile and half walk. If you are traveling to Santa Barbara by train the Secret Getaway is two blocks from the train station and there is a car rental agency two blocks away in case you want to explore the Santa Ynez Valley wine country. If you are tired of walking, all of these attractions can be reached by a local 25 cents-a-ride shuttle bus that runs up State Street and along the ocean front from the harbor to the zoo.
The Ocean Getaway resides in a historical turn-of-the-century building and retains the charm of the days bygone. My husband and I spent a year working with craftsmans and designers to create a unique vacation rental reflecting the style of the early 1900's and Santa Barbara. The hand cast plaster gives it both a romantic and European feeling. And the 10-foot ceilings, Waterford fireplace, hard wood and limestone floors all add to its ambiance. You will not find a comparable vacation rental for the price - quality, ammenities & location.
Exquisite antique furnishings were hand selected and imported from Europe. One bedroom offers a king bed and the other a queen size bed. Both are complimented with an adjoining full bath. The king bedroom also has a 22" TV and DVD. The bathrooms are immaculate - all new with limestone floors, granite countertops, romantic tub and shower with dual showerheads, and custom Santa Barbara-style cabinets.
The kitchen is a chef's dream. It has granite counter tops, limestone floors, and custom cabinets made by our own local cabinetmaker, PJ Mulligan. It has state-of-the-art appliances - SubZero refrigerator, Wolf's Chef top stove, convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, and, of course, a washer and dryer.
The living room is grand and warm - a great gathering area with a Waterford fireplace to add to its ambiance. It has a custom-built entertainment center, which houses a 50-inch Plasma TV, blueray DVD and stereo. A down-filled leather couch (queen-size sleeper) was brought in to accompany the two over-stuffed Venetian chairs. and there is an antique Louis XIV desk and high speed wireless internet access for your convenience.
Enjoy the views from the living room through the glass doors to the courtyard and grand Italian fountain. The private courtyard has abundant flowers and green shrubbery that can be enjoyed on chaise lounges and dining table and chairs. A large gas grill has also been provided for enjoyment of our local flavors.
The Ocean Getaway is a rare, high-quality, vacation destination in the heart of Santa Barbara! You will not find a comparable location and quality vacation rental for the price in Santa Barbara.
(A few helpful hints when comparing us to others. The Ocean Getaway is on the ground floor, 1 level, with FULL bathrooms and bedrooms, NO lofts or stairs. We also offer private reserved parking, as opposed to parking on the street which is a challenge being so close to the beach. Finally, we are not located on a commercial thorough fare, next to the Highway (APS or 101) or railroad tracks. We are in an upscale residential enclave in the West Beach Area, in Santa Barbara, 2 blocks to the Beach and State Street.)

Why the Owner Chose West Beach
Location, location, location and history. We are located in West Beach, 2 blocks to the sand and 2 blocks from downtown, in a nice residential area. We are not adjacent the highway, railroad tracks or on a commercial street. The quality of this property and its location are extremely rate which is what prompted us to buy this gem. As a historical building it has a lot of land encompassing it and private reserved parking which is rare.

The benefit of our Ocean Getaway is that you can truly enjoy Santa Barbara, its beach and its unique beauty and personality, as opposed to being in outlying suburban areas, that look like any other or for that matter some of the pictures may look good but the neighborhood is not up to par. We are unmatched in location, quality and price.

We fell in love with the downtown Santa Barbara and found this fabulous historical property that needed an owner to give it tender loving care and this is exactly what we did. We leveraged a lifetime of rebuilding properties and for this property we did it for fun - it has been our joy. We completely remodeled to reflect the true Santa Barbara style and ambiance with hand cast plaster, limestone and wood floors, waterford fireplace to name a few.

I wanted to write a quick note regarding our stay at the Ocean Getaway... it was PERFECT! The location was amazing we were able to go to the beach, State St restaurants, the harbor etc within minutes! The house was very well appointed and purely spotless! We really enjoyed your attention to detail in both the design and decor of the home. I think the highlight of the property was the private courtyard with the fountains and outdoor table. We spent a good deal of our evenings out there with a glass of wine. Again, thank you very much for such a fantastic experience, we will absolutely be back for our next visit to UCSB!

My wife and I have stayed in Santa Barbara almost every June or July for the last 15 years. We have stayed at big hotels, small hotels, quaint B&Bs, and this time decided to try a rental. It was great. Easy access to everything, we walked into town for most of our meals, yogurt, and the museum; walked to the beach or took a short drive up to our favorite, 1000 steps; easy access to 101 to get to points North or south. Owners were very responsive when we had questions. Property was exactly as pictured. One of fountains in our garden didn't work but this was minor and did not bring to their attention; sure they would have fixed had we done so. Well equipped kitchen, we could have cooked anything, did several meals, including sausages from farmer's market on weber gas grill. Definitely will be back next year. So close to Amtrak we may train into town next year.

If you need to escape to a wonderland, you should definitely consider renting Melanie and Todd's Exceptional Ocean Geraway. It is exactly as depicted on the website. You will have no problem getting around town or visiting the beaches from this location. It is a spacious, exceptionally clean rental and certainly one of the best that my wife and I have rented through vrbo.com. The owners are wonderful, helpful, considerate and easy to contact. The "Getaway" allows you to thoroughly enjoy yourselves without the use of a car. The restaurants locally are exceptional and quite reasonable for a resort vacation. There is a public bus system but the local transit for 25 cents is enough to take you to the beaches, restaurants and downtown shopping . Car rental is no problem in Santa Barbara. For the record our vacation included four adults and one toddler of 16 months..

My husband and I come to Santa Barbara every year, and just stayed in this lovely condo for 6 days. It is truly as advertised - a fantastic location and the property is just wonderful. The condo is luxurious and well appointed, and has been beautifully redone - the bathrooms and kitchen are exceptional. We loved it and felt as though we had discovered a lovely place to call home in Santa Barbara. In addition, there is a very nice private deck and patio area - where we spend our evenings with a glass of wine, or eating outside weather permitting. Santa Barbara is a wonderful spot - and this place just added to our enjoyment. Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Ocean Getaway with our 2 children for 1 week. The place was very comfortable, everything is very new and well cared for. The condo is great for a family because there is plenty of room for everyone. Location is wonderful - 2 blocks to beach. Fenced in patio and lawn area are great for kids.

We come several times a year and have stayed in numerous SB rentals - therefore we know the differences. This property is by far the best value for the money and regardless of price one of the most comfortable and beautiful properties in SB. LOCATION, LOCATION coupled with a faboulous private encased courtyard to enjoy the garden all year around. I highly recommend this to all.
