Welcome to Kawama Yacht Club. Enjoy an Island Vacation townhome within our Tropical Oceanside Key Largo Resort in the heart of the Florida Keys. Just 2 & 1/2 hr drive to Key West or 1 & 1/2 hr drive to Miami's Jungle Island, South Beach, Miami Beach, Metro Zoo, Fairchild Gardens, Coral Castle. Kawama is located at the southern ocean side border of the world famous John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Underwater Park. It's also known as the Dive Capital of the World with its underwater marvels of colorful fish & the only living corals in the United States.
Our Kawama grounds have over thirty tropical landscaped acres surrounded by Pennekamp's nature preserve, seaside birds and we're the only resort in Key Largo with a Saltwater Lake. Kawama has a newly remodeled deep water marina with free Boat Ramp usage with boat slips rental available. Free dry land boat yard for boat & jet ski parking. Enjoy our 400 foot ocean view fishing jetty, two lighted tennis courts, children playground and a small private Atlantic Ocean front Beach with BBQ's, a fish cleaning station, beachside shower, chairs, chickees & palms.
Kawama Yacht Club is near to all of Key Largo's popular restaurants (Pilot House, Fish House, Mrs. Mac's Kitchen, Sun Downers), shops, art galleries, fishing and diving charters, boat rentals. Just 1/2 miles away you can swim with the dolphins & play with sea lions at Dolphin Plus.
You'll relax in our cozy home away from home with 1100 square feet of living space. A-8 is a two story Villa/Townhouse with the extra privacy of being a larger corner unit adjacent to the Pennekamp State park nature preserve. Two bedrooms, two full stand up shower bathrooms, a full kitchen with granite countertop eating area & four stools with adjacent dining area and living room. Two outside screen patios surrounded by tropical palm trees & plants. We have two Cable TV’s, a DVD player & movies & music library. A stackable large capacity washer and dryer. Relax in our sundeck surrounded by coconut palm trees with partial view of the ocean, lagoons & sunsets. Our 'A' building is the closes building to most of our resort amenities - A few steps away from the 2 tennis courts, marina, salt water lake & the Atlantic Ocean & Kawama private beach & fishing jetty.

What a wonderful place to stay! It was a beautiful, clean, and safe place to stay with our family of five. Yvette went out of her way to meet us there as we arrived and had thought of so many extras in the home. We have stayed in many condos before, but none of them came as well supplied as this one. There were towels for us to use, toys for the kids, games, spices in the cupboard and even some condiments in the refrigerator. Our whole family hated to leave and already look forward to going back someday!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

As parent ourselves - we know traveling with children/teens & having advance notice of extra items which are available like (beach towels, a portable hammock in a bag, fishing rods, tennis rackets/balls, games, binoculars, a telescope, low beach water chairs, kitchen utensils, garbage bags, sugar, coffee, teas, spices, paper goods, charcoal, lighter fluid, a bathing suit drying rack, DVD's, CD's, bug spray, sun block, etc.)... at your final get away Kawama A-8 destination...is always a welcoming tip when packing for 4-5 & traveling by car or airplane. This space fit us four adults perfectly! The place was clean & stocked with everything you could need (and then some!). We have stayed in VRBO rentals before where hardly anything was provided and this was Wonderful since we had flown in from out of state: beach towels, tennis rackets, dish soap, condiments, extra linens, toiletries, trash bags & even some breakfast items. Yvette was great about showing us around (and waiting for our late arrival - thanks!) & has created a helpful notebook with local information. There is no beach area, but the townhome is only a few miles from John Pennekamp State Park with a great beach area, kayaking the mangroves (recommended!) & snorkel tours. The lagoon on the property is gorgeous and filled with all sorts of marine life (parrot fish, tarpon & we even saw a lobster!) - great for snorkeling. There are two balconies, a screened in porch & a front outside area with table & chairs for enjoying coffee, cocktails or just conversation. Another recommendation: walk to Calypso's for dinner one night - you will not regret it (and can bring your wine with no corkage fee), the food was Excellent! Will definitely consider staying again if we make it back to the Keys.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. Our Kawama Beach is a small private beach with showers - exclusively for the use of our Kawama renters & owners. Our Kawama beach has been lifted with large coral rocks & additional sand has been added to avoid errosion during storms. Here you can enjoy the Atlantic ocean views & our Kawama beach BBQ's, sitting in the water with our A-8 low beach chairs, walks during low tide to our Kawama fishing point in search of hermits crabs, or just relax under the palm trees on our colorful wooden beach chairs while you sip a cool drink or have a picnic lunch. If you prefer long walks along the Beach we recommend just a five minute drive away to a larger beach at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. The Florida Keys is better known for it's treasures "Under the Water". Key Largo is known as "The Dive Capital of the World" & from here you can take a dive boat out to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, an underwater sanctuary that offers some of the best diving & snorkeling to be found anywhere. The famous Christ of the Abyss underwater statue is a regular stop on many of the snorkel trips leaving from Key Largo Resorts Marina at Mile Marker 100 off US 1. Most of the boats also offer champagne sunset trips. John Pennekamp State Park also offers glass bottom boat rides, aquariums filled with salt water fish, biking, kayak rentals & much more. There are additional Florida Keys beaches located near Kawama MM100 as you drive south from Key Largo such as Harry Harris Park MM92.5, Founder's Park MM87, Islamorada Library Beach MM81.5, Anne's Beach MM73, Sombrero Beach MM50, beautiful Bahia Honda State Park in MM36 Big Pine Key & Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park or Smather’s Beach in Key West - the southernmost point in the US, just 90 miles from Cuba.

Owners take good care of their property and guests. Full kitchen, plenty of spare towels and bath supplies were very much appreciated. Internet didn't work during my stay, which complicated our research of local attractions. For that, owners provided $25 credit (received with prompt return of security deposit.) Having owners among HOA board of directors would likely make Kawana a better place.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Wireless Internet is available - just enter the wireless connection & password available & found on the top of the WiFi box on the kitchen counter. As past Phase 1 board members - we are happy to see our newest board members are hard at work with three simultaneousKawama projects, which include the water plant, landscaping & updating the marina.

We stayed at this townhouse over the summer and it was great! The owners, people at Kawama and the keys in general, were very hospitable and friendly. My husband and I relaxed by the pool and were pleasantly surprised to find schools of HUGE snapper, angel, jack, parrot and chub fish in the nearby lake. (I think we fed the fish about a loaf of bread by the end of our vacation.) We must have stayed after the bathrooms and kitchen were already renovated because both the bathrooms (up and downstairs) were GORGEOUS and I baked fish in the oven almost ever night without a problem : ) We had a blast and would highly recommend this home to any renter.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Please use our binoculars, which can be found in the counter drawer facing the dining table - fun to use for birdwatching or viewing the sunsets and sunrises from the top wood deck.

This was the best vacation in the Keys I have ever had. I was born and raised in Florida and have visited the Keys at least once a year with my family since I could walk. We have booked at hotels before but with our family growing, we decided to try out this townhouse in Kawama. Our little piece of heaven started with the fantastic hospitality provided by the home owner and continued every day with long walks on the beach, sun bathing by the pool and watching the sunset from one of the TWO large balconies. The kids loved swimming in the lake next to the schools of parrot fish and my husband went fishing every morning off the stocked coast line. We are already booked for next year!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

The Kawama Yacht club is a very nice gated community and a place that many families seem to visit year after year. This unit is an end unit, very quiet and close to the pool with ample parking. Even though many of the units have golf carts, you really don't need one to get around to all the things that this location has to offer, just a short walk to the beach/marina. Owner was very nice and accomodating, however, this unit could use a little more updating as the oven didn't work properly and the upstairs bathroom was definitely in need of a make-over (probably original construction). Had a peaceful back screened-in patio. Be sure to visit Mrs. Mac's restaurant which is close by for good old-fashioned home style cooking and a place that the locals eat at. Since we didn't know exactly where to stay while visiting the Florida Keys for the first time, we were glad overall that we choose the Kawana Yacht club for our vacation accomodations.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.

About the owner: Our Cotera-Fernandez Family have owned the corner Unit A-8 Villa Townhouse in Kawama for approximately 38 years. (Photos from left to right - (Me-Yvette, my son, Ornel, & my mother, Miriam Fernandez). We have enjoyed vacationing in the Florida Keys throughout the years. My husband & I (Ornel (AL) & Yvette Cotera) purchased the A-8 townhouse from my parents (Dr. Joaquin & Miriam Fernandez - original owners) approximately 16 years ago. We love everything about the tranquil atmosphere in Kawama & the Florida Keys. The warm sea breezes, boating, swimming, snorkling, hanging out at the pool, ocean & salt water lake. Dining out as a family, gathering with friends & having great home cooked seafood meals. Bird watching, night star gazing & viewing spectacular Key Largo sunsets at the end of a long fun filled day. Our three children, now - all adults, also grew up enjoying all the same fun activities Kawama & the Florida Keys have to offer. My husband (Al & I) spent our honeymoon (first two nights here in A-8) before boarding an NCL cruise ship on Monday to the Caribbean islands. Being close to John Pennekamp & other Key Largo shops makes it easy go charter fishing & snorking or diving the coral reefs. Rentals for golf carts, kayaks & bikes are nearby & can be deliver to Kawama upon your request.

We enjoy our property's wonderful 2nd story sundeck to view the evening sunsets or relax overlooking the pool from our back screened upstairs porch. We enjoy swimming to one of the lake platforms or just relax & float on a foam noodle in the Kawama salt water lake - try out both beaches - one on each end of the lake. Or hang out at the lake dock & feed the lake parrot fish. We also enjoy oceanfront B.B.Q's on Kawama's private beach pass the marina (Atlantic Ocean view) & sipping a cool drink under the palm trees. During low tide our family talks walks through the warm ocean waters birdwatching for pelicans, herons & seagulls. At night we return to sit on the Kawama beach chairs, gaze at the shooting stars & enjoy the cool sea breezes!
