Monarch Chalet - Your Escape from the Summer Heat
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Built in the 1970's by a local ski legend, this house is full of character. It's located in the sleepy town of Monarch, minutes from Monarch Ski Area and amazing natural powder! You can walk a few hundred feet to reach Monarch Lodge, which provides a family-style restaurant/bar and many activities such as indoor swimming/soaking and racquetball, a game room and a fitness room.
The bed arrangement is as follows: a queen bed in the downstairs bedroom, two twin beds in loft, one full bed & one twin in an upstairs bedroom, a double bed in the other upstairs bedroom. We have a porta-crib available upon request.
Not only is this chalet ideal for a ski vacation, it is designed for year-round fun! The Arkansas River offers world-famous rafting and kayaking, while mountain biking and hiking trails are just outside the door.
Fun extras include a hidden dart board, surround sound and an indoor sauna. There is plenty of firewood for the wood-burning stove to keep you warm. New carpeting and tile cover the floors, while most of the bedding and towels are also new.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed Monarch Chalet and the Monarch ski area. The chalet was clean, fresh smelling and beds were so comfortable. The accomodations fit our family and needs to a tee and we will stay there again. The chalet contained everything we needed, was so close to the Monarch Ski Resort, experienced wonderful sun rises through the mountains and snowfall through the windows. Thanks for an awesome stay!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

3 families, each with 2 kids each, packed into this fun cabin. Kids ranged from 2-6. Kid proof (wood burning stove was easily accessible, though), with lots of books and games and a loft perfect for dance parties (for the kids). Close to Monarch. Nice, comfy, safe common areas. Owners were helpful and friendly, cabin was well stocked and had multiple tvs, so we could park the kids in front of a movie if we wanted. One fact that's not clear from the description is that 1 bedroom is accessed only through another bedroom, so in hindsight, maybe not ideal for 3 families with that many kids. Otherwise, it was great.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had two 5 year old grandchildren with us and the place is definitely kid-friendly -- the toy box and library full of children's books were a lifesaver! The weather was great and the kids now have a headstart on learning to ski! The memories from this vacation are so precious!Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing.

Nice house conveniently located near Monarch Ski Resort. Need 4-wheel drive or chains available during snow season due to steep access road (road is plowed). Although house is a bit dated, it is clean and comfortable for our two families of 4 each. Nice family area with large windows and pot belly stove. We enjoyed our fires every night. Upstairs loft and bedroom nook area great for kids. Unfortunately, both showers are downstairs and hot tub does not work (we were informed about hot tub before arrival). Nice laundry room. Light switches are hard to find at first. Owner was helpful and responsive to our needs and questions. Snow mobile tours are also available across the road. We would recommend this place and may stay here in the future.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We had a group of 7 and the chalet was perfect. Great location close to skiing but not too far of a drive down to Salida. Having private washer and dryer was a huge plus! Will definitely be back again this coming season!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Trevor, We look forward to your return, when you will receive 10% off lodging! Beth

Easily enough space for 6 adults and 2 children. Had everything we needed. Close to the ski slopes as well. At the time of our visit the hot tube was out of service. Would have liked to relax in the tub after skiing all day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Yes, we have a hot tub. No, it is not in service and is therefore not advertised. We feel that hot tubs are unsafe, unsanitary, and are not energy efficient. There are public hot tubs available a few hundred feet away at Monarch Lodge for $4/person. Also, we have a nice sauna to relax in after a day of outdoor adventures!

We stayed at the Monarch Chalet with our children and grandchildren. It as a great place to stay, and had all of the items that we needed - plus ones we never would have expected. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything that was needed to be able to cook in and have family dinners. There were plenty of blankets, pillows, extra sheets and towels. There were even games for the older kids and toys for the smaller ones to keep them entertained. The house was very clean and well-maintained and the owner was extremely helpful. We plan on having an even larger family reunion there in the near future. Since one of our daughters lives in Salida that is where we did most of our shopping and dining. It is about 30 minutes away. It is a quaint town on the Arkansas River that is great for kayaking. It has many unique and wonderful restaurants. We would recommend the Monarch Chalet to everyone.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
