Nestled in the Sierras, our “Big Trees Vacation Home” is an ideal destination for families with young children. Enjoy the privacy of our ¾ acre wooded lot, tucked away from the street by a shared driveway off of a cul-de-sac.

Relax on the front deck and marvel at the gorgeous trees surrounding you while your kids run around playing in the front yard. Or, have fun adventuring and exploring nature in the back yard, where you can play croquet and horseshoes in the summer and build snowmen in the winter. At night, have drinks out on the deck so you can gaze at the stars.

Our comfortable, clean and spacious 2200 square foot house is perfectly furnished for families. Playpens, a highchair, bouncy seat, activity gym, bumbo seat, stepstool and monitor are all available for your use (no need to tote these from home!). Your vacation will also be made easier by all of the “child-proofing” equipment we have installed, including safety gates (one surrounding the gas fireplace and one at the top of the stairs), outlet covers and cabinet latches.

Upstairs, you will find 2 bedrooms (each with a queen bed), 1 bathroom, a kitchen (with island seating), family room, dining room, living room and laundry room. The upper level has been recently remodeled and newly furnished… this is not where old furniture has come to die! The windows provide breathtaking views, and give the illusion that you are staying in a tree house.

Downstairs, you will find 1 bedroom (with a double bed, bunk bed + trundle), 1 bathroom, and a huge playroom. Your children will be thrilled to find this enormous room filled with toys, games, books and videos!

Enjoy all of the comforts of home in our fully-equipped and well-stocked kitchen while watching your children play in the adjacent family room or living room. While you might choose to forego the outside world for your stay, you certainly won’t have to; feel free to use our computer, printer, wireless DSL (no extra charge), televisions upstairs and downstairs, DVD/CD players, VCRs, iPod speaker, and telephone with domestic long-distance calling (no extra charge). We also provide linens, such as your sheets and towels.

At our house, you are welcome to use our two Queen-sized sofa beds (one in the family room and one in the living room). These are not the "old-style" sofa beds with the awkward metal bar; instead, they are very comfortable sofa sleepers (many people use them as their "everyday" bed). With these beds, the house accommodates 8 people in beds upstairs (plus pack 'n plays for the babies) and 5 people in beds in the downstairs bedroom. We do ask, however, that you limit your party to 12 people, and that you limit the number of adults to 6. While the house can accommodate many people, we find our guests typically rent it to enjoy with their family or with one additional family.

Our property is located off of scenic Highway 4 at about 4000 feet elevation, in the neighborhood of Blue Lake Springs within the town of Arnold. (We are about a 3 hour drive from San Francisco). In the winter, there are snow-parks nearby for sleds & saucers, and Bear Valley ski resort (which is very family-friendly) for downhill and cross-country skiing. Once the snow melts, there are endless options for outdoor recreation, such as hiking at Big Trees State Park and swimming, fishing and boating at Lake Alpine.

Our local Blue Lake Springs community center – “Snowflake Lodge” - offers fantastic recreation, including a pool, lake, snack bar, play yard and tennis courts.

And don’t forget to visit nearby Murphys – a “gold-rush era”-turned-charming, upscale town – for shopping, dining and wine-tasting!

Well equipped kitchen and filled with toys for the kids. We had a great time and hope to return again. You were more than pleasant to deal with and I felt like we were friends not just renters.   • We just spent 4 days in this lovely home - what a great setting for a winter get-away. The A+ accommodations were perfect and more than comfortable. We have rented many vacation homes in the past but have never been in one with a kitchen supplied like this one.   • We had a wonderful stay at the big trees house! We stayed there in early December with another family (4 adults, 4 young kids) and found it to be the perfect house. There was a big snowfall while there and the kids loved playing outside in the snow and using a couple sleds that were already at the house. Inside it couldn't be better with the big playroom/kids room downstairs, 2 adult rooms upstairs, and an open kitchen and big game area upstairs. Just a great layout for a family stay. As others have said the kitchen was well stocked with all the little things you need(a good thing too since we were snowed in for 2 days!) Finally, the location was wonderful. A great setting in the woods, but right up the street from Arnold where you can grab some groceries or a bite to eat. Thanks again, we definitely hope to be back soon!

  • We have stayed in this home once in the summer and once in the winter. It is one of the best vacation rentals I have rented because of the following: --the owners are delightful to deal with and they are very considerate; --the house is immaculate and stocked with everything a family with children could need and the kitchen especially is well stocked with nice glasses, cookware and even a kitchen aid mixer; --everything is comfortable and tastefully decorated; ---the pool and lake in the community association are great for kids; --the town of Murphys is adorable and great for people who care about food and wine It's a great place to vacation!

The kids love all of the outdoor activities and love having their "own" large play room in the house. The house is very accommodating and comfortable, especially for families. It has everything you would need and more for a great get-away. I would highly recommend staying here.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your rental home with us. It was such an easy vacation with a two and a four year old, as your home is so child friendly and safe. The weather in Arnold in August was perfect and we spent much of our week lounging around the pool and swimming in the lake at the Snowflake Lodge. The amenities there were stellar and it was a safe and wonderful environment for our kids. We also took advantage of having my mom with us and we had a date night at “V” restaurant, which was truly amazing. Murphys is such a wonderful little town with fantastic food, wine tasting and a park for the kids! I also want to mention our trip to Columbia, which was great fun. We rode the stagecoach, enjoyed sarsaparilla at the saloon and perused all the shops and displays. The drive there is gorgeous and not too far for a fun day trip.   • I recently stayed there with four adults, three toddlers and one infant. We had a great time. It is cute, very comfortable and has everything you need, not to mention it is child proofed, has toys and stuff like kids plates/sippy cups, etc. We went up to see snow, and found it at the nearby national park. It's beautiful countryside, and the there are some cute towns close by.

  • We had a wonderful weekend at this Big Trees Vacation Home. We traveled with two families (four adults, 2 toddlers, 1 infant) and it was very comfortable. The home is thoroughly child-proofed and well-equipped. Fully stocked kitchen, toys/books/movies for kids, playpens, high chair, etc. There are lots of activities in the nearby area although we barely left the driveway since there was so much snow to play with. The owners of the home are very pleasant to deal with and they are well-organized. We were so glad to have taken their suggestion to stay three nights instead of two - it was well worth it. We will certainly return in the summertime to enjoy the area without snow.

  • This is by far one of the nicest rental homes we have ever stayed in. The owners have put a lot of care into renovating the house and it shows. The kitchen is extremely well-stocked, and they are well-equipped for small children. The driveway is rather steep, so if you are going up when chains might be required make sure you have a good set. Proxmity to the Calaveras Big Trees Park is plus.
