Two-bedroom westside space-age retro renovation that will provide a truly unique setting for your home away from home. "Fay" is a ranch style 60's contemporary modern home with a spacious living room, dining and top of the line kitchen. Like the 60's itself, Fay provides an energetic setting with some radical shifts in interior and exterior design, furnished with new and vintage pieces and cleaned and stocked with eco-friendly products including high thread count sheets and duvets, and hypo-allergenic bedding. This is a house for fun and relaxation, with incredible attention to the details a vacation traveler appreciates, from the solid (easily cleaned) surfaces, to the gas fire pit and hot tub. Fay is a great option for the astute traveler ready to try something new or just feeling groovy!
Fay is located in the near west-side, two blocks from Columbia Park and the Deschutes River. You can walk to downtown, the Old Mill District, and are two blocks from Century Drive and the road to Mt. Bachelor. It is a traditional single residence house on an oversized lot with a spacious front yard, off street parking, and completely fenced backyard. Galveston Street, with all lots of dining options, coffee shops and ski/bike shops is three blocks to the east.
The interior space includes original oak floors, cork tile in the living room and second bedroom, marmoleum in the kitchen and bath. There are reclaimed black walnut platform shelves, coved ceilings, windows everywhere, and natural fiber window coverings. Fay is furnished with new and vintage pieces, including a new Ikea Stockholm sofa, Knoll-inspired wool armchairs, a Mies van der Rohe Barcelona lounge chair, 60's French velvet curtains on the sliding glass door leading to the front deck, and authentic vintage lamps. There is a flat screen wall-mounted TV, a DVD player, wireless Internet, cable, and a stereo with an I-pod docking station. The dining area includes a solid birch dining table seating up to six people, and a dazzling vintage 70's Italian-made Lightolier glass-rod chandelier (with matching fixture illuminating the bathroom). The kitchen includes a Bosch dishwasher, a dual-fuel chef's stove, high efficiency vintage-inspired Smeg refrigerator, concrete counter tops and new oak-veneer 50's style cabinets. The house is stocked with vintage ceramics, an extensive supply of glass wear, cocktail tools, all new Ikea dishes, stainless steel pots, and high quality kitchenware. This is a well-stocked kitchen, furnished with a mind towards eco-minded, socially aware visitors.
Down the hall are the two bedrooms, each with privacy and solid wood doors. The master bedroom has a king size platform bed with wall mounted reading lights, and a large closet. This bedroom has a sliding glass door to a private outdoor area with seating and a poly-carbonate shelter - a secret passage to the backyard or your own personal greenhouse in winter. The second bedroom has a queen traditional four-post bed frame, and a sliding glass door to the grassy portion of the backyard. The bathroom includes an original cast-iron tub with original "Swan's" sliding enclosure, metal laminate surround, Corian counter, Toto Aquia dual flush toilet, Hangsgroe fixtures and sherbet bamboo towels. Fay has forced gas heat, central air with vents in all rooms.
The outdoor space at Fay is a tribute to the stark beauty of the high desert and water-saving landscaping. The plants include native grasses, cold-hearty bamboo (surrounding the hot tub), equisetum, maple trees, a large blossoming apple tree in the center of the backyard, cypress, lilac bushes, and native juniper. The centerpiece of the backyard is the gas-fired fire pit. It is both beautiful and easy to operate. You literally turn on the gas and light the blue and green glass and settle into the Panton-inspired "S" chairs (in both kid and adult sizes) for a evening of fresh, mountain air. There is also a new high-efficiency Marquis hot tub, gas barbecue, outdoor dining table, recycled metal awnings over built-in benches on the deck that surrounds three side of the house.
The home comes stocked with extra linens, eco cleaning supplies (dish soap, dish washing detergent, laundry detergent, biodegradable garbage bags, and biodegradable dog waste bags). We also provide an Information Book with details on shopping, skiing, hiking, biking, walking the pooch, restaurants, local events, and the must-sees of Bend. We provide a vintage single-speed cruiser with lock and basket to interested guests, and will expand the fleet if there is interest. As always, ALL ARE WELCOME, including pets!
